- A Magpie Negotiating With A Blue Jay
This camera is in Northwest Montana and Features Finches, Sparrows, Collared Doves, Magpies, Blue Jays, and European Starlings.
It also Occasionally Features Northern Flickers, Red Winged Black Birds, Chickadees, Gold Finches, Robins, and Crows.
Fun fact: Both Bluejays and Magpies are both in the crow family. Both are incredibly smart.
Unlike Mordecai
@@MetalBansheeXMordecai is pretty smart though?
They're not classified as subspecies of a single crow species per se, but jays, magpies, and crows are all species (actually multiple species spanning several different genera) of one corvid family.
Yeah, that's what I meant.@@dsrguru
"Here's the thing." 😅
Fun Fact: Blue jays pick up one peanut after another to feel how heavy each one is, then chooses the heaviest to carry away.
My bluejays take peanuts and then hide them under fallen leaves 😂😂 idk if they’re selective in order, but they definitely take all of the peanuts
Yes! My blue jays in my backyard do this! Love leaving peanuts out for those guys
So true! I'll throw my blue jays a couple of handfuls of peanuts every morning. I'll sit then figure out which peanuts they want to take with them. They're pretty funny.
during the spring this year this blue jay couple would always come and get peanuts and both would fly away with 2 almost each time.
I've noticed magpies do this too.
Benson: Mordecai stop negotiating with that magpie and get back to work or you're FIRED!
Rigby: sigh fine
And then they accidentally angered the magpie god or something
Haha I miss that show. Back in the day when Cartoon Network had the best!
I read it in his voice.
Muscle Man: You know who also negotiates with magpies? MY MOM!!
My bluejays rotate peanuts in their beaks, like they’re judging a fine cigar. If the shells are roasted too dark, they will literally pick them up and drop them over the railing on the porch while I watch. It’s so funny. They are peanut connoisseurs. 🥜🐦
Good to hear about this, since my two African greys also just seem to "randomly" refuse some specific nuts due to surface texture.
@@JoonasD6Clearly these are birds of high nobility that accept gifts of only the highest quality.
"What do you think of this one? Last year's harvest, solid texture...density's quite nice."
"Won't touch it."
"Really?"
"Look at the dimpling on the shell. It's been scorched, ain't it? Damn nut's seen the inside of the sun."
"Oh come on, I"m sure it's a perfectly fine nut."
"Go on then. Cheers to ya."
"Cheers and--PFFBTPluck me, that's vile!"
"Tried to warn ya, mate. Inside of--"
"--of the sun, you're right. Pluck me. Awful, awful stuff. Like licking the underside of a human's car."
"Shoulda checked the dimpling, mate."
@@ApocGenesis 😂🥜
Yeah apparently this is their typical behavior. It's kind of adorable
In europe i've seen corvid spiecies working or communicating together. Like Rookies, Magpies, Carrion Crows, Hooded crows and Jackdaws. So it's awesome to see it on video!
If they all decide we are "in the way" we're finished 😂😂😂
@@Eddierathif they were bigger tho, i think they would organize lol. Because you can only do so much when you are so small, no matter how smart
"Crovids alone weak, Corvids together strong"
@@azuresiren5846 i fed some crows before while everyone was chasing them away for some reason. They gave me some gifts in return but they didnt stick around for long because of my cats. Hopefully they come back one day such interesting and smart animals
I get rooks, magpies, and jackdaws in my garden. The rooks and Jackdaws have first dibs on the warm meal worms (husband soaks them in hot water for 5 minutes before breakfast time). Then when the magpies turn up, it's time for the others to leave.
It was 1 rook originally. Then he turned up one day with his woman. A week later, 4 showed up. Then 10. Then one day, came out and there were 16 rooks in the tree on the hill above my house, waiting. Must have about 30 corvids visit throughout the day now. Costing me a fortune in suet and mealworms.
I also have bluetits, coaltits, blackbirds, robins, and the loudest, the tiny house sparrow.
I go through 20 kilos of suet every 2 weeks. And about a kilo of mealworms every week.
Bluejays look like they're the main character straight out of a movie/game about birds i swear lol
Or do work for a gumball machine
MORDECAI STOP PICKING UP PEANUTS OR YOURE FIRED
Regular Show
@ligondesenuts769 yeah but even if regular show didn't exist. That bird is HIM
Love the magpie whisper-singing at the jay. The ones in our neighbourhood sing to our chickens, i think to try and tell them this is their foraging space, but the chickens dont gaf so its like that crying wojak vs chad meme
the magpies in my attic do this every morning. my chickens sing back, but they're never in key
The chickens are the chads in this situation 😂
they smart nee gaas
"Mordecai get back to work or your fired!!!!"
Bro how have squirrels not dumpstered that feeder?
I do not know.
Uhh we don't fuqq wit magpies
Maybe the Feeder Is installed in a wall with no Places to climb for the squirrels
@@FVBirdCam "I'm not sure..." -- *[Reloads .22]*
@@zanir2387Looking at where that is, squirrels can easily get there. I've seen them scale vertical walls
There was a blue jay that hide his peanuts in the pot of one of our plants on our balcony. But in winter, we bring the plants inside.
I saw the blue jay come one day, look around, then notice the plant inside. He was angry
Same thing happened with me. Except the blue jay never came back, and the pot had a dozen sunflower sprouts during the winter.
Angy
(⇀‸↼‶)
What did the bird do then?
@@qeytmyok2473 Probably found a new place to hide his food😊
Fun fact. Due to their unique muscle structure everytime Blue jays squeeze something with their beak they silently fart
Do they also make an occasional "wheeeeoow" sound? Situationally with a racoon?
That explains why they are so grumpy
This probably isn't true but I'm going to accept it for now and laugh anyway lol
"Dude if we dont get those peanuts, Benson's going to kill us"
LMAO
Everytime I see a blue jay I immediately think that they are all the same and they all have a racoon next to them somewhere...
I love how many people automatically think of Regular Show on bluejay videos. Still one of my favorite shows.
It's kinda like how ppl instantly think of Phineas and Ferb on platypus vids
@@justmegumi34Or Nemo on clownfish vids
Magpie: How many kilos do you wanna order, Sir?
Blue Jay: WOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!
“Sir the suspect has barricaded himself in with the hostage. We are sending in our best negotiator.”
*Bird nosies*
When there's enough food to go around the bird world can be harmonious. When there isn't....😮
Never heard a magpie make that kind of sound before.
“OI GET OFF MAH TURF.”
“Mate there’s like 8 other peanuts and countless seeds, no need to shout.”
Magpie: listen we can talk this out and share there's plenty to go around
Blue Jay: peabnut
Imagine dinosaurs having similar interactions.
Blue Jays are so cute
Fun fact. Both are members of the corvidae family. Highly intelligent. I talk with them for hours on which stock seems most promising and even helped me with my physics exam!
*"Woooooooooooooo"*
Just here to comment on ever blue Jays video I seen
"The negotiations will be short"
~Qui Gon Jinn
You were right about one thing, master
@@vincentmichael7979 The negotations were short.
You are one of the only with this type of channel to post the region and I am really thankful!
"Oh my god."
"What?"
"That thing is part magpie."
You could tell that once the bluejay got his share he went like WOOOOOAAAH
Fun Fact: Blue Jay's are not actually lizards, they are birds.
But they are reptiles ;)
@@darkonyx6995they are not reptiles, they evolved from reptiles.
@@evancombs5159and bees aren't insects, they evolved from insects
@@evancombs5159 Yes, they evolved from reptiles, which means that they ARE reptiles, since in taxonomy, you cannot outgrow your classification.
So... Dinosaurs are replies?
Blue Jays are really good at flying through the trees.
My one desire in life is to be known by corvids as a good friend, and to be able to interact with the birds I've admired since my childhood
Fun Fact: Fun Fact
Fun factception
First time i ever see a real life mordecai
So this is what mordecai gets upto
Damn that was one nutty experience.
I love birds. They're cute with those little black eyes
"The Best Burger in the World" but "burger" is replaced with "peanut" and Benson is a magpie
And without a raccoon BFF!
Stellar Jay and PointCrow meeting up irl
I’d love for magpies to start showing up around northeastern US
The fact that birds have language and are pretty smart is so interesting
Probably a Regular Show episode
Wait till his raccoon friend pulls up and spins the block.
🗣Uoooooooooooohhh !!!
‘Bro you know you don’t weigh enough for that one, lemme grab that you can take this lil one here’
Eugh, it's that one guy who touches all the food on the share platter.
I'm surprised that they are doing this because both Bluejays and magpies belong to the same family called the crow family which obviously also includes crows and it really makes sense that they would negotiate because both magpies and Bluejays are very intelligent birds because the crow family is home to very intelligent birds
Then why are you surprised?
@@n0odles86 Idk maybe it's because I never have witnessed both species of birds crossing paths😐🤷
Is it just me or are blue jays some of the most prickish birds around. Constantly see them fighting
Mordecai negotiating with a smuggler for peanuts, we got evidence!
Fun fact: there are more magpies on Earth than atoms in the observable Universe
Are you sure about that?
@@dinodare1605yes it's true
@@feminico2613
...so is each magpie made up of less than one atom?
@dinodare1605 yes exactly, now you get it!
@@dinodare1605 yes, the ratio is about 40 magpies to 1 atom in the universe, as we have observed before
Ah yes, the negotiator!
A surprise to be sure
but a welcome one
Mordecai, what are you doing there
I didn't know blue jays were as far west as Montana.
i feel like watching different types of corvids interacting must be like a microcosm of what interactions between different hominids mustve been like before all but us went extinct
Fun Fact: If you know Regular Show, everytime you see this bird you will inmediately think of Mordecai
Ah yes, the negotiatior
Fun fact: they taste pretty good!
Omg it’s mordecai!
Mordecai?
No one messes with Mordo
This is Mordecai meeting a new enemy in an eating Contest.....🤭👍🤭👍🤭👍
Ah yes, the negotiator
If they all decide we are "in the way" we are finished.

Whats Mordecai doing
Fun Fact: This is a TH-cam video with birds in it.
Fun fact: this was fun to watch
ah relatives arguments
Lets play punchies
0:22 this is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!
Wait, blue jays are in Australia?! Or are magpies in more places besides Australia?
This is a Black Billed Magpie, which is an American species of Magpie primarily found in the Rocky Mountains. There is also Eurasian Magpies Found All over Europe and in parts of Asia. Magpies all over the world! 😀
i think he called him a "redacted" slur
Idk what facts these comments are spitting about blue jays and stuff but all I see is modercai making a deal with the grim reaper to get impress Margaret with a supply of peanuts
Fun fact: Both are birds and have wings.
sure there's diff species but they're both corvidae so they're both smart.
I dont know why but for some reason the magpie looks like a person falling in the air and I couldn't unsee it until I read the title. I'm losing my minddd
Fun fact : in corvian language they also negotiated who turn to sleep with your mom tonight
Woooaaahh wooooaaahh
Im surprised you have Blue Jays in NW Montana instead of Stellar’s Jays!
Got the video right after witnessing a blue Jay and a hawk fight and kill themselves by hitting fence too hard
The negotiations were short.
When i first saw the image before i watched this i though i saw a man jumping threw the fence
Fun Fact: These birds were negotiating
