I think Alicia was very much inspired in- and by live Concerts; F.i. her interpretation of Albeniz' "Sevilla" from Suite Española in Toronto is the best i ever heard. Here she plays in different "layers", and the colours and spanish atmosphere in the slow middle section are amazing!
I can see why she was so averse to being recorded live, because when she had an 'off" night, it really showed (as in some of these performances); despite being a musical genius, she was human after all.
Listlin, the Mendelssohn Spinning Song is no where near as fluent in her 60's recording and the El Pelele is not as brilliant or flawless as in other performances of hers...these are just two examples. But of course, the poor sound detracts from the playing, so that could be a factor as well..
You’re really poorly named. Your ignorant comment has nothing to do with music. I imagine you like a robot being able to replicate the same performance over and again (unfortunately a staple of modern pianism, no personality and no imagination). It reveals a shocking shallowness and lack of humanity, not to mention any knowledge of the human condition. The Mendelssohn is at least twenty years after the earlier recording. Pristine and precise it is, full of character and the sound, only Larrocha. I’d love to hear your Pelele. I can only imagine at the turgid pace and lack of imagination and authenticity. I heard Larrocha hundreds of times between 1988 and 2003 and her standard remained the benchmark. Appreciate, if you can, rather than denigrate in your wilful ignorance and stupidity.
Maravilhoso!!!
Bravo once more for this great pianist!!!!!
