Coney is a really chill dude and I can't think of anyone better to invite on. I just want to see a Smash player showcase some cursed shit from Brawl, that's all I ask.

Mustard is such a fantastic guest on a show like this!! I feel like he could have kept going on about these types of moves for YEARS!!! Love this series and this was one of the best ones yet! What a pro!
I'd love to listen to a platform fighting game related episode of this series with a guest like MockRock because of how incredibly different an overpowered move in a platform fighter has to be compared to more traditional fighters.
I loved how much context you guys let yourselves give for each move. Talking about game history and character generals on top of super specific reasons why the moves chosen are good was so refreshing.
Based off of the thumbnail, it looks like trident rush is the first repeating offender in the series, haha Edit: actually iirc Sajam chose Aquaman’s trait, which is another very fun and interactive mechanic 🗿
Aquaman *is* one of the few characters that have shown up more than once, though. I wanna say XRD Elphelt and Kid Buu are others, but that might just be from exposure on this channel, not this specific series.
similar thing happened with both brian f and punk bringing up abigail, brian f's move was the v trigger that made all his hps unblockable and punk's move was 5hp. also I swear he's shown that exact half moon kohaku vs crescent moon kohaku combo in another episode of this series
Not only did Rei's uppercut softlock the game if used in a certain way, on the original arcade hardware it could DESTROY the arcade board itself due to overclocking because of the infinite hits.
Really enjoyed the post move discussions had here, a lot of respect shown for each others respective games and insight built upon by both of you from the concepts shared.
For the triangle of move properties Mustard is talking about, I'm *pretty* sure Tremor had all three on his crystal shatter (the main launcher) for a bit before they patched out armored launchers, and a lot of the footage showed for the Tremor gameplay was DJT using a flash parry (essentially using an armored special and run canceling out of it to blow up gaps in SonicFox's pressure). MKX had some wild stuff for a long time. To be fair, so did IJ1 and IJ2.
The Tremor segment was really interesting from a non-MK perspective. Anime games have a lot of armor characters, but they also have a lot of multi-hit normals, and you generally have to commit to a move to get your armor (an example would be Vaseraga from Granblue, who has a similar armor buff but it applies the armor to his next attack, not just whenever he gets hit). The idea of being able to wait for an unsafe move in a block string and get hit on purpose so you can punish seems absurd.
@@arachnofiend2859 This is in large part to how normals are structured in NRS games. Everyone effectively has canned strings as opposed to gatlings, so there are more requisite knowledge checks generally (fewer than something like Tekken, but more than most traditional games) since quite a few of a character's strongest strings on paper have counterplay (i.e. a very plus string might have a large gap for flawless blocks or interrupts, or the final hit may be a neutral duckable high, or have a backdashable gap). Tremor is an extreme case, but given relatively generous buffer windows out of blockstun, some characters like Bane would effectively turn off your ability to do normals, while just outright losing a huge portion of their tools conditionally at the character select screen in some matchups.
Funnily enough, Leon Massey dropped a vid on Rising Thunder's discovered unfinished characters, and one of them, Aegis, has Crystalline Tremor's armor buff move. From what I gather, it was able to make her in a strong heavy with huge plus frames to an absolute fuckin menace who could get in for practically free
I remember in Persona 4 Ultimax, Adachi had a really fucked up set up thanks to his super Heat Riser that would make it so his moves do a ton of status effects. He could put mute (can't burst), fear (fatal counters on hit), stun (can't move, can only dash and jump), and rage (can't block). Then he would shoot his full screen laser at you and unless you could jump and stall somehow, you were just fucked cuz that laser was his best starter.
Heat Riser was actually an Adachi buff(more damage, more defense), Magatsu Mandala is the persona buff. There's setups where you could do Silence, Fear, and Rage allowing for unblockable/unburstable setups for 3700(C version with fear) or 4280(D/SB fear) which the average life is like 9500 iirc with the lower end being 8000, so yeah close to 50% on the majority of the cast
@@axis8396 rage and silence was a 1.1 thing though. In the current version he no longer has rage resets. He still does have silence but you have to do mandala with the buff already on, when it used to be on 2c which was a major combo tool.
Godlike, i'll be waiting for Ketchup to talk about the Midway era, more people need to know about projectiles that remove your block button and TOMBSTONE DROP
Man! one of the best crossovers I never expected to see, LK x PNDMustard! Bro I love how open you are talking about any game! you should do a mini MK1 challenge and see how you do playing a set quantity of games in Ranked, it would be fun and interesting. I'm calling you liking Nitara!
30:00 so... turns out this wasn't the first time LK has brought up H Kohaku in "why X thing us broken" videos... they've just exclusively appeared in collab videos on jmcroft's channel. He specifically goes into why H Kohaku is busted in the "Fighting Game characters that are ACTUALLY broken" video on jmcrofts' channel th-cam.com/video/jPnNAgK1XOc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fEKunQ1Z8-zt7Lpu
20:03 This right here is why fighting game developers stopped making characters giving themselves armor as a buff and now you only see armor "built in" in certain moves, or buffs that only give armor to *certain* moves (like Vaseraga from GBVS). The concept for this MK character is good though and the armor doesn't last long (6 seconds I think?). What they could do with it is to make the character lose the armor if they block two attacks in a short period of time (like on block strings) and then they wouldn't be able to punish block string safe finishers. The armor would then only be used to win neutral and opponents could try to play around that.
I enjoyed the long-form podcast-like style of this one. I hope to get more like this if you and more guests can swing for the fences. The context and tournament footage really stalled the deal. Great video.
The Last blade 2. Zantetsu’s dash slice (646C 214A) and air kunai (j236A/Bx2) arguably the most broken things in that game that aren’t a glitch. dash slice can cross completely ambiguously, is air unblockable, cannot be deflected in the air if it hits from behind, and can come out fast enough to not be humanly reactable. Air Kunai does sometimes unslacled damage, builds meters at a ridiculous rate. And is safe on block in a lot of matchups. The man is a borderline crime in that game. He’s banned in at least one competitive community (Korea) for these reasons
1:16:58 I found which game manual he's talking about. It's the manual for Hokuto no Ken 6 for the SNES. It's in japanese but it actually does say Raoh can't kneel, so he can't crouch lol
Funny enough, Sajam also actually brought up trident rush. I think that Mustard brought up more interesting things like how much meter it builds on block though. Sajam also talked about Aquaman’s trait because LK was curious about and asked if it could be done during block stun or not
1:14:07 So its a glitch with grave shoot (A+C launcher) and rei's C DP where if you boost cancel the grave shoot during hitstop and TK DP out of it, the DP will do an infinite amount of hits and keep going up into the sky, unless you boost cancel it before it kills or the timer runs out. Otherwise yea it will softlock the game, at least on emulation, havent done it to anyone on arcade.
