Excellent blast from the past 👍👍👍 yellow and silver rm's were certainly different...

I quite liked it, particularly the grill and the silver wheels.

It was done as a special by Ensignbus. It ended up with Capital Citybus and was painted red again at the end of 1991.....

Good to see the garage code WW on the 97, some nice turned out busses, I imagine each garage had a show RM at some point.
This must have just been after privatisation started and WW closed shortly after

London Buses were still part of London Transport proper at this time although it was split up into operating companies. Walthamstow lost a lot of work, as did Forest bus operating company wich i believe was wound up before privitisation....

It’s interesting because the 212 route used to go between Finsbury Park and Muswell Hill and was single deckers

The 145 was one of my local routes until the mid 1970's. Don't think the yellow and silver colour scheme suited the RM. Have to say the best bus was the RTL at the end 😁

Was a little disappointed it was overlooked in favour of yet another RM. C'mon Soi... lol.

That must have been confusing for passengers with 104 at the front and 104A at the rear? Brilliant rare footage. Do you have any footage of when, possibly, that same Ensign RM worked the 252 in the mid 90s for a week or so?

To me, the sight of the London Buses roundel symbolises the final nail in the coffin for the London Transport we all knew and loved.
You even hear the soulless Cummins lump at the beginning.

Yes, they had started to re-engine Routemastrs at this point. To be fair, the AEC's & Leylands had been rebuilt at Chiswick numerous times to point where they could no loger do so (engines lasted around 2 to 3 years in service, a gearbox around 4 to 5 years) so they had to do something. It did help the Routemasters survive anothe 15 years in London of course.....

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus How long did a Gardner last?

@@jamesfrench7299 Give or take around the same. When i was a trainee mechanic in 1983/84 we had a garage full of Titans. I recall at least 3 having engine changes while i was there for a year. Good, solid engines though. In later years i was a bus driver and always enjoyed driving Titans over Metros, found them more solid although both had Gardners, apart from a few Metros that had a Cummins fitted, M 1097 & 98 spring to mind!

Good to know the AEC 590s compare well to the Gardner's.
