There are also Kurdish young women fighting to keep sovereignty of their part of Northern Iraq 'Kurdistan'. The documentary I saw showed the way women are treated there in a very poor light. Their quality of life was much better in the army than if they stayed in the family home or got married.
They do not have Purdah, but do have great disrespect from males towards females and it can only mean being treated worse than animals, in marriage.

The reporter is clearly targeting pushtoon culture......
Our pashtoon culture is not like this .....
Pardah is very important thing ,here is strength in pardah . The whole world, especially western countries, Europe wanted to demolish this pashtoon and pardah culture. It is a rich culture. Only Islam gives full rights to women nothing else can give more than Islam . Islam says about pardah . So we will follow it . Whether we are compelled or targeted .
Western countries and Europe talk about human rights and women rights, than why they are genociding in Israel , killing women and children.
And I will also remember , what the army did with women in World War 1 and 2.
And what western did With women in war of terror in Afghanistan ,Iraq, Syria, Yaman Algazyre and Libia.
So I mean that , don't teach us about how to treat women. We know very well, how to treat, feed, norture and educate women ....🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰

For sure. And the worst part is that even though I have lived in Pakistan all my life, I never knew something like this could happen and be done so openly and brashly. In Karachi, where I live, if someone acted like this with a woman, he would most likely get beaten to an inch of his life by a mob of angry, outraged men. But the fact that there are areas of my country where this is acceptable behaviour is very saddening and shameful.

It really cheeses me off when people use part of their religion to force people. From my understanding is that it is woman's choice to wear hijab/purdah. My friends have sisters and aunts who are independent and have jobs. They don't wear hijab/purdah and make sure that they are respected among their male colleagues. We Christians aren't any better.

By the way the lady who gave the conclusion statement is entirely wrong by saying that “all of the women we filmed were taking a risk simply by speaking to us”
Seriously?? All except one of those women come from families who fathers, brothers and husbands let them be in these high positions.
The people suffering are not only women but entire families who are displaced because of being refugees. That is why the interviewer was at the ‘Community center for displaced people’
The woman who was wearing the shuttlecock burqa was complaining about the Taliban not about her husband. She was complaining about not being able to work in the fields anymore. And in the end she had to go because her children were crying.
The interviewer also seemed to assume that just practicing purdah means that the women are being oppressed, keep in mind that there are thousands who cover simply because they feel a spiritual connection to their God and therefore abide by the religious laws. I have seen and met women who are doctors and scholars and computer science graduates who are completely covered.
The problem is political. In this case it is when a small group uses violent war tactics to cause problems within a country. The main intention is to destabilize the country. The media is then used to spread lies and to very conveniently change the narrative.

You are right. Here these reports are giving a false picture. PAKISTAN is a religious theocracy, like Taliban in afghan. PAKIstan is ruled by SUNNI religious tenets, suppressing, oppressing, eliminating all other minorities, sects.
Islam doe snot accept any other religion or ideas, or liberal, open, equality based
values. On one hand you are accepting ISLAM . but you are against the , values, culture, practices, tenets dictated by ISLAM/QURAN. It will not work.
More over , ISLAM/QURAN can not be changed and every word in qURAN must be obeyed as it is ALLA's word !!!!

It always seems as if ALL religions were originally created by Kings who appointed "holy men", to be able to control the people below them in the class system through the word of a god. That seems to be why it has been so easy for men to constantly alter or purposefully misquote their religious texts to work in their favor during every generation. Even if people think the control is now cultural instead of religious, all cultures are basically religious cultures whose rules oppress the powerless masses. So it will always be religion that destroys humanity, because logic can not exist in an illogical world.

How irreversible is that? is it part of their constitution? I do notice that religious governments do not do well across the world. I believe, like you, that the separation of religion and State (government) is essential. Even in England we tried a religious republic once and the government went towards fundamental Christianity. We had to restore the monarchy to the throne after a few years.
But how many Muslim countries back-slide and rush back to Islam for their government, after trying to introduce a secular democracy? Are there any that succeed in keeping it secular and also have human rights, free speech, a decent economy and wages, good working conditions, low corruption and high justice etc? Are there any where equality for women is not sacrificed to the ego of men?
