How to win an essay competition / my experience and 10 tips

- Since there basically isn't any video on youtube about this I thought why not share my experience .. Although I did win 1 essay comp which helped add strength to my personal statement I did loose others.. but I didn't use all the tips for those and did do everything for the one I won
all the tips are just from my experience and does not guarantee anything :) but I hope it will add strength to your entry

Summary:
1. Choose a question that you relate to the most something that you would want to research
2. Pay attention to the rules and the guidelines, what they are looking for.
3. Read previous winners and match them against the marking criteria, why did they win and put reasons why. Make notes about it.
4. Brainstorm ideas about the topic without research, what is your original stance?
5. Research a lot about the topic. Going online, reading books and articles. Going to the library and bookstores.
6. Save different drafts of the essay
7. Check your grammar and have clear paragraphs
8. Use subject terminology - research will help you with this.
9. Referencing - Use cite this for-me
10. Use evaluation, be creative with this evaluation think about different viewpoints and how they’re affected by the decision.
11. If you lose, it’s not that big of a deal. At the end of the day, you have learnt about something new and material for the personal statement.

aw thank you! I do smile a lot, I practised before and it became a habit. Try smiling and be sad at the same time, it's hard XD smiling more just makes you happier and more positive

What advice would you give to someone who has very little experience in the subject of the essay competition because it wasn’t available as an A Level subject?
By the way thanks for this video it was really helpful and you’ve just gained a new subscriber!
One thing that will be hard is using good terminology specific to the subject
My essay subject was hardly taught in school , just do a tonne of research ! Read book, Google, podcasts, youtube , you will learn everything you need online 😊 good luck !

@@louispride7695 maybe you can do research and make a list of key terms as you go ? The goal of essay competitions are to learn new content in the process not necessarily the end goal of winning
Do you have any blog that show your previous essay?? So it can be a plus point when judges search for your name on the internet (ohh... This person is already advanced in essay writing *label)

Do you think that it's possible making an essay without searching other one's quotes? just with my ideas?
And could you tell if you did the footnote for the references? I am not a English native speaker so it's harder to understand everything that is on the site :'(
yes i think so, quotes arent the most important for essays usually ( it depends on what essay ) but what you are awarded for is your own opinions and arguments , i don't quite understand your other question but there's a lot of ' help you cite' websites and info about footnotes and referencing ^_^ all the best

Oii, im brazilian and im making an essay about the scientist who made the most significant contribution to the world. I am kind of confused about the model, i see in video lessons only argumentative dissertative models, but i only see people talk about their essays in the first person and involving a life story. Should I introduce something that happened to me (which relates to the theme) to create a personality, for the reader to know me, or make a more analytical text? help me!

Can I do one in four days?
You can do anything if you believe you can :) unrelated but I know someone who went from 30% in maths to 70% in a week so an essay in 4 days is possible if you focus and just take action ;) if you think its overwhelming and stressful then you can choose not to but there's nothing stopping you from doing it right?
