Excellent lesson. I play bass, but I've been fascinated by the Merlin for some time and when I saw one in my local music shop recently I bought it. I have no idea how to play it properly and I thought this video was very helpful and it encourages improvisation. Thank you.
Just discovered this awesome little instrument in a music store the other day. (I play banjo and guitar). Been watching videos ever since!! :) This is A GREAT little tune. Slides and vibrato are really nicely done, give it a real Appalachian kind of sound to me. If Santa is kind to me, this might be the first song I learn. Thanks.
Yeah this could be worth a shot! It's hard to think of many other recommendations though because I am mainly a guitar player and the merlin is still very guitar like. But it allows you to start making cool music much faster with less experience
I do mean 4th yes haha. I didn't even notice I said that, I think it is because that same fret would be the 7th fret on guitar and I am a guitar player
That would be really cool, but that would most likely need be on the chromatic Merlin, as it’s in a minor key, and thus contradictory to a major key like a Merlin is made in. Hope that’s a chromatic in the back, I tuned my baritone ukelele to a Merlin and love it lmao
Thanks🎉❤
I just ordered one today, they have a cool sound and I look forward to learning it. My kids are excited to learn it too

Kiss from French Alpes
Thank you!
I don’t suppose you would
Post the tabs for that great little diddy would you?
Roger
TablEdit v3.01 supports now the Merlin Strumstick. The module name of a Strumstick module must begin with "Merlin"
Great tune.
I appreciate that Richard! Thanks for stopping by
Hey Zack... just saw this for the first time. Fantastic! Do you share the chords and tabs?
Hey Zach. Any chance you posting the tabs for us older newbies? I love that little tune.
I appreciate that but unfortunately I am terrible at writing TAB so no :/
@@ZackRamsey14 Okay. Thanks anyways. Take care.
@@rogermahon448 Maybe use the video settings to slow down the picture rate(speed), and then you can follow the tune a little easier.
Nice painting
@@kaushalsuvarna5156 lol thank you
About 00:50 change sounded great.
Thank you ☺️ you’re too kind
Ask a piano player who finds playing guitar surprisingly difficult would you recommend this instrument? Any other alternative?
Yeah this could be worth a shot! It's hard to think of many other recommendations though because I am mainly a guitar player and the merlin is still very guitar like. But it allows you to start making cool music much faster with less experience
That’s neat! Can you use regular dulcimer tab with this instrument, or is it an entirely different animal?
Yes you can!
Please make more Merlin videos ♡
Does this song have a title? Nice job!🙂
It does not! Just a lil ditty I came up with
@@ZackRamsey14 That makes it official: "Zack's Ditty"
Hey Zach, when you say 7th fret, are you meaning the 4th on the Merlin?
I do mean 4th yes haha. I didn't even notice I said that, I think it is because that same fret would be the 7th fret on guitar and I am a guitar player
@@ZackRamsey14 Yeah that’s what I figured. Okay thanks. Great little tune.
Teach us how to play the wellerman shanty?
I would if i knew it lol
Check it out on youtube I don't think it would be very hard for man of your talents

Can you do a loop of the song so i can play along again and again. That's the way i like to practish. Thanks in advance
I can try! I've been busy but I will keep this in mind, thank you for stopping by
@@ZackRamsey14 thanks.
You still playing the Merlin?
I do
@@ZackRamsey14 cool I just literally picked one up on FB market place for $60. I don’t understand the running so I’m researching it now.
Why can't you use little chord diagrams in the videos. Got fed up trying to see chord shape and so gave up watching video
