By the time of the "dress incident", Selena had already been a millionaire for around 4 years - she could have bought every dress in the store. But, she was a humble person, and not the type to be like "Do you know who I am"? The lady only saw that she was young and Hispanic, and assumed that she couldn't afford $800, and even though she wouldn't brag about how much money she had, that was nothing to her by then. Never make assumptions about people.

That’s true I had the same situation one day at Costco. But I think it was more worst in the 90s then now because back in the 90s there was not Latino celebrities known in the English culture besides Gloria Estefan and Selena that was about to skyrocket in the English market

Period. I’m a black girl and when I first saw the Selena movie I thought it was weird for the lady to assume that she was poor but when she knew she was at the mall for the Grammys, I enjoyed watching her face turned into shock when she realized she was a celebrity😂

Im actually glad this is mentioned . Selena s case is quite unique because it resonates the very fact that Mexicans with native american ancestry and brown complexions have historically been discriminated against along side african americans. True fact , and added to that the stigma around poverty and hispanics of color who have been largely ignored and overlooked . Yes thank you for this .

My mom knew a florist who worked on the no me queda mas music video - in fact he owns the two vases you see in the close up of selena on the staircase. He said yes she had a little trouble with fitting into the gown as Suzette mentioned as well. Infact, at times the top would fall down and they would have to kinda shove her back into the dress - with chris watching right there. They said as far as the video goes they started early in the morning and wrapped almost around 2am. Selena would keep their spirits up by singing showtunes inbetween takes like New York New York like Liza Minnelli and the theme song from the Brady Bunch.

Lmao this is a huge joke to make racial division. #RacialPropaganda

A "joke"? No. Selena's brother confirmed that it happened to both of them more than once. Selena had, and has, fans of every race, and wasn't the type to go around trying to divide people. She loved, and made her music, for everyone. Take it from a long - time Italian - American fan who's met members of her family. It seems that YOU'RE the one who's trying to divide people.

@@RT82162 It happens to people of every color and race everywhere. This is clearly propaganda to gain clicks and views of a over rated singer. FYI, here on the internet, everyone claims to be family or knows family. There's always a Tia or primo, right....LMAO

In the first place, I've been a fan for 27 years, have met her family, and am "pretty sure" I know them when I see them. In the second place, you've proven your complete and total ignorance by claiming that Selena is "overrated". To begin with, a genre of music gained recognition throughout the world because of her, which is something that almost no other artists in musical history can claim. She is also the ONLY female musical artist IN HISTORY to ever have 5 albums on the charts simultaneously, the first Latin artist in history to have an album debut at number 1, and the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy. She swept the Tejano Music Awards for ten years straight. Her album "Dreaming Of You" is the best - selling Latin album in U.S. history, and is considered a "historical" release in the music industry. There are close to 70 other famous people listed on wikipedia who say that Selena either inspired them in their careers, or inspired them to begin their careers, and dozens of other artists - both Spanish and English language - have written songs that are either about her, or mention her. One of her stage outfits is in The Smithsonian Museum of American History, statues have been erected to her in two countries, and parks and buildings have been named in her honor. She's been inducted into numerous music halls of fame, and has stars on 3 walks of fame, including The Hollywood Walk of Fame, where her star ceremony was attended by more people than any other in the history of The Walk of Fame. Feel stupid yet? Maybe next time, you should learn something about someone before you foolishly refer to them as "overrated" ... LMAO.

Stfu … to recall an incident as it happened is nothing more than an OBJECTIVE FACT. She like so many Mexican Americans got profiled ALL THE TIME. That’s just a FACT. Get over it. Racists act out on their racism. FACT. Why don’t you focus on telling racists not to be racist instead of trying to shut people up for speaking on THEIR experiences instead
