I just got mine on Monday. I've been playing bass for 40 years and I can't believe I've never owned one before. It's definitely one of the best basses I've ever played.
Re-angling the neck, which is basically shimming what you show there, is used when you need to lower the action more than it's currently possible. It will not affect string tension. String height will make a feel difference though. For more tension, you put on strings that have more tension. Shimming certainly isn't the way to do that.
Ebenhandoko Thanks for the review, you brought up some good points on the maintenance/ upkeep of the Ray35. I do need to ask a question.. After owning this bass for a while now, have you experienced any trouble with the neck not holding the adjustments? I have a Ray35QM Neptune Blue with the maple neck. After 2 years of owning this, I cannot get this neck to hold a setting after tightening. I love playing this thing but I have to keep an allen key handy for the neck adjuster just to play it. It's tendency is to have a bit too much relief. (High action, out of tune) I've been asking other owners of the Ray35 w/o much luck.. Thanks in advance.
Yupppp... I had the same problem, however I had it on my other musicman as well. I had usa sterling, and usa stingray. IMHO musicman do need to improve the neck stability and they did just that by roasting the neck but it would cost more.
@@ebenhandoko Thanks for the feedback. I thought it must have been an issue on certain models instead of just being my bad luck. Such an annoying problem. Curious, did you seek warranty help? If so, was it resolved? I've been thinking about going back to my vendor instead of dealing direct with MusicMan. Thanks again, your help is much appreciated
In my counry we dont have such warranty so either I get it fixed or sell it. I went for the second option :) because i wasnt so sure if the problem wont re occur
@@ebenhandoko I see. Bummer.. At least MusicMan knows that they have a problem with the Sterling line. Maybe I can get some help.. Thanks again.. #RockOn
Hey I love your demo I just got one. I’m interested in your favorite setting, you made. Can you tell me what filter pedal and other devices you had on that signal thanks Adam
I only got the Sterling Ray 34 by musicman also made in Indonesia. Just what he told. Just replace the preamp & I also replace the pick-up with Basslines the sound like the MM USA.
That's a good price. What I did to mine was fret leveling and wiring. I was about to replace the preamp and then I realize how good it sounds already so I didnt. Try NYXL string on it, they sound wicked
Saya singgah dimari karena kebetulan lagi service ray35 diworkshop kecil2an saya, penasaran apa fungsi switchnya. Ga terlalu ngerti inggris tapi kok aku paham bahasanya nya pak le eben yak ? 😂🤣
you play like an amateur. Always use ALL fingers - not your entire hand! Most beginners do that. Learn some basic scales and jazz, and you will be able to use more than one finger - and play more complex music , instead of always the same notes.
dumbass he is doing a review, when you play the same piece of music several times to showcase the different tone options of the instrument. no wonder they call jazz the poor man's music, with that sort of pretentious attitude no wonder people avoid it....

I agree! I sold my Ray 35 and really miss it and will get another one. It's a StingRay minus the expensive price tag!
This bass from my church but colour is honeyburst, sound is very solid
greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩
I have one and I love it. I've also got the Ray 34.
Niceee
I just came from guitar center looking at the bass going to get one but they don't carry it lefty this is a problem
Sounds beautiful!!
Arigato very much

A luthier did the job for me... it was a superb setting... thanks for your explanation
@@ebenhandoko no problem man, your ray35 sounds great!
You definitely must be a luthier! Thanks for the tip. I’ll probably subscribe if you share more on stuff like this.

How much exactly, did they reangle the neck? That b string sounds real nice and well defined.
Just 1 shim added. I dunno exactly how much but it was measured from the body
Where can i get this cables for bring up the tone
Kalo sama Bacchus Universe wjb 5 bagus mana mas?
Black metal ok with it?
"budget bass" is an odd definition for a $700-$900 bass
Compared to the 2000+ dollar price tag on an American Stingray it’s pretty budget. Especially for the quality you’re getting
Is there a bass knob on this thing? sound is way too thin ,no bass , all Mids
i have the 35 bass ,its cool to play
Yuppp
Mine arrives next week. I’ve always wanted a EBMM but the price is out of reach
Ray 35 is worth every penny. If you could upgrade the wiring they sound amazing.
I got mine for $470 CAD so $ left over for wiring if needed.

ebenhandoko mine will need a bit of fretwork. I went with EB Slinky’s. Hey I think you know my dad - Grant from CFNI
Mr B? He's the one who takes care of me when I was there. How is he?
walah iso boso londo juga cak.. apik tenan
Wow cas cis cus fasih juga ko👍😀
Hahahahahaha.... Lulusan EF
Makanya belajar
kalo beli pickup yg tipe sama seperti itu beli dimana ya? Merknya apa yg recomended?
Soalnya punya saya pickup sudah kurang peka
Kata org2 merk haussel bagus, bassline juga bagus.
does the reangle of the neck affect the intonation? Thanx
Yup slightly. Most wont even notice
Saya singgah dimari karena kebetulan lagi service ray35 diworkshop kecil2an saya, penasaran apa fungsi switchnya.
Ga terlalu ngerti inggris tapi kok aku paham bahasanya nya pak le eben yak ? 😂🤣
Wkwkwkwk bahasa kalbu
Can you explain what changing wires in bass changes?
Oh it affects gain, extra clarity but it slightly alters the tone. The tone becomes brighter and louder.
I'm so stealing this bassline hahahaha nuwun sewu loh ko🙏
Compare sama g&l gmna om?
Klo sound khas nya sy suka ini tp g&l sy juga suka
Master eben have a long fingger, i have small fingger, how can i make it (to play bASS!!) 😭
Hahaha bisa lah
Bang mau tanya dong SUB MUSICMAN sound n ability nya gmn bang klo beli musicman sterling nya kocek nya terlalu dalam hehe thanks ya bang
Asik sih dulu pernah punya cuman dia sama sterling kerasa bedanya. Lebih enakan sterling.
ebenhandoko thanks bang cb nanti bikin video perbandingannya? Makasih bang
Wekekeke bisa dihajar bacchus aku bro
ebenhandoko maaf bang gak tau soal nya hehehe wkwkw
Maaf mas beli nya dimana ya? Terimakasih 🙏
Sy dulu kebetulan beli bekas di toko di instagram yokyok namanya
@@ebenhandoko Thanks mas, sukses selalu 👍
Why did you replace the preamp wiring? Buzzing?
To have clearer tone. Better wire means more gain, more opened freq.
@@ebenhandoko where do you acquire these cables/wires?
I bought a 10 feet mogami instrument cables and take a piece of it
@@ebenhandoko OK, thanks
Can you provide link to the mogami cable please .it will need soldering skill to change them ?
beli dimana sterling ray 35 nya ko eben?
Dulu beli yokyok
How is it 700 dollars
I have to pay 1100
It was 700 but then slowly rises. Mine was one of the early model where they gloss the neck.
ebenhandoko ooh okay, I have a newer one with a roasted neck
All of that custom work you should have just got a music Musicman Stingray
....and do all of that custom work on that MM instead...
write a script, stop saying uuuuhhh and errr.

Kudos to you for not being baited to respond negatively. I thought it was a good review!
you must be super fun to play music with 🙃
ebenhandoko you’re a class act
Is there a way to add another pickup? Any provisions made with a cavity to add on another?
