When I was a child I use to wake up on Saturdays mornings to watch my favorite tv shows on ABC. Now I wake up on Sunday mornings to my favorite TH-cam video 🤝
Same here! I look forward to Sunday mornings to see what Bob and Nathan have uploaded! We got a special treat this week with extra mid-week videos from both of them!
We always enjoy your Sunday videos, they are very relevant to our small operation in Blairsville. We use your shop for most of our beekeeping needs, thank you. G's Bees Apiary
Good morning Bob! Thx for the video. It’s great to listen to commercial beekeepers talk. Damn bears. It’s been a mild winter up here and even I have bear pressure on the prairie in my valleys being pushed out from the parks
@@bobbinnie9872 I am actually going to be updating my fence this year. I used Polly cord fencing last year and it snaps so easily. Also it was good getting to meet you the other day Bob! Fantastic video keep it up!
We get a distinct orange pollen from Asparagus here in the Lowcountry (Late June). The Clemson Ag. farm grows a bunch. Dandelions will give the bees a nice orange pollen as well down here. Sorry to see you lost a few in Mountain City. I enjoyed working there with both of you.
I’m around Clarksville Montgomery county. All of our privet and locust got washed out from the rain we’ve had the last 3 weeks. Persimmon and tree of heaven are blooming now with sumac not far behind. Hopefully we can get back on track.
Here in N Texas we have different types of bear 🐻. They have 2 legs and when they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs they turn over the hives. Bob I understand that you have managed 700 hives by yourself in the past years. I do have questions about your strategy/approach besides experience. In this video I noticed you use the duble screen which I never thought of using. Glad you didn’t have to much trouble with that yard. Thanks 🙏 for sharing. God bless you and your crew.
Good Sunday morning Bob! Sorry yall having a tough time with bears. Coming to WNC in June and hoping to ride your way for a visit with my son. Haven't been there in awhile. Have a great day!
O nice. I wrote to someone that I make single brood frame nucks with queen cell on the last flow before summer and let them grow like that.. can't remember was it Kamon or Nathan or... then I thought he might think l'm stupid or something. Now I feel much better.. when Bob Binnie has it on video it can't be wrong. It's good to see it on TH-cam
Based on my calculations, I'm gonna have to work the rest of my life too lol. The times and the cost of living is just crazy. I really need to pull honey off my hives so I can make room, but I been dealing with diverticulitis and haven't been able to. Don't see mine working the honeysuckle as much either as long as there is other sources available, I'm sure it's more work cause their tongues aren't long enough. Thanks for the videos, I look forward to them when I get up Sunday mornings.
I planted white clover many years ago (ph 5.7) here in Texas and every year there was less of it until finally none was left in about 7 years. It doesn’t like our heat and drought. It only grew under my big pecans where it was shaded.
Thanks for the video! Dang, I was hoping someone would comment on the orange pollen. I have a ton of it coming in too & can’t identify it. I’m in the eastern panhandle of WV.
My Grandfather had a bear that kept visiting his bees , just behind his house , back in the 1960’s , and it required a 240 volt house current and barbed wire to eventually get him out of the honeybee yard .
I lost my first hive to a bear, what a learning curve, the next year, with electric fence, I lost one due to the dry weather we get, I then added a motion sensor light, the end of the bear. We have to be careful here with an electric fence ,they can start a fire here in S. Oregon.
Fortunately we don't have bears in our area. We are finally getting a bit of a nectar flow. Now to continue and praying for rain. Thank You for another fun and informative video!
I had a bear incident once when I lost my ground for the fence. He was most polite only taking out one hive. He systematically dismantled it box by box and ate the contents. I had a lot of flimsy foundationless frames and he carefully ate the comb without destroying them. I think I lost only 2 frames in the entire incident. The hive It was probably 100 lbs and the bear must have waddled off very full.
Hi Bob. I few weeks ago I told you how my colonies just depopulated. I let them alone incase queens were being superseded because of what happened. I went in the hives today and spent a few hours looking through them to see what was going on. All the colonies had the original queens (I mark them). The numbers were small in all colonies and yet were trying to re-populate with a lot of brood. I spoke to the farmer about it and we discussed what was used and with the wet weather he couldn't use his usual rotation of products on the crops. I later went to my second apiary about two miles away and the same thing happened there. The queens are there and the colonies were depopulated. Strange. When I noticed the lower number of bees a few weeks ago I looked for piles of bees in front of the hives. There wasn't one bee on the landing board or in the grass in front of the hives. I'm thinking that maybe the county or state did some kind of a spray program and the bees got caught in the middle of it all. Any thoughts on your part? Ideas of might have happened? Great video by the way.
Thanks for the video Bob! The late spring flow got killed here in south Cherokee county near Woodstock with all the rain. We usually take 10-12 colonies to Murphy, NC for sourwood. Expecting it to be early as well? Planning on running colonies up next weekend.
As I have said we don't have a problem with bears, yet, our problem is with skunks. I do believe I would rather have the skunks rather than bears. St least the skunks don't destroy our boxes. They just make the bees mad.
Bob I enjoy all your videos sorry about the bear glad the damage was not real bad. Does seth still work for you, Do you have problems with ticks and if u do what do u use,.Thaks off does not cut it.
Hi Frances. Seth hasn't worked for me in a couple of months but does expect to work part time in the future. We just check ourselves carefully for ticks.
Bob, talking about plants that bee work what do you know about bees working soy beans? I have a farmer who is planting 40 acres and offered me to put bees on it if I’d like. Haven’t really found any good info. I believe I heard Gus Mitchell say his bees were working it in a video I watching on comb honey. Thanks Bob
Bees do fair on soybeans in some areas and with some varieties. It's actually fairly decent honey. Spray can be a problem though. I would check on that with the farmer.
Bob have you ever tried honey that has no taste at all? I live in VA and I took a honey super off a hive yesterday and the honey has no taste what so ever. I am wondering if it is bad. It is strictly a honey super so I have never put chemicals in it.
I've had some very sweet but bland honey before but I haven't had any that had no flavor at all. I don't think it has gone bad on you. I once heard of someone playing a joke on a neighbor beekeeper by open feeding without his knowledge and the result was much like what you describe.
@@bobbinnie9872 good queen is no have you say, the pure queen have this problem, The offspring produced are stable, but the color of the queen bee is unstable. Yes on the queen banking but it has problems being successful for most. We usually have three frame nucs with a queen that we overwinter each year using a double screen board.
