Great sleeping bag basics, you're advice on how to lower rating was spot on. I am with you on warm and comfortable sleep. After all sleep is 1/3 of you're day, better enjoy it.
I discovered Wiggy's many years ago. I got the overbag, which is 35°F rated, and used it. After about 8 years I ended up getting the Ultra Light, which is +20°F rated. Zip them together and they're rated at -20°F. I just recently discovered your channel and I appreciate your content.
Wiggy's bags don't die. I've been running a Wiggy's bag since 2005. I own 4 now, and they are my go-to, even over my Marmot Down. Good to see you using one too. There's a lot of bad gossip out there about them, and Jerry, but the bags speak for themselves. A good high-end Woobie/Doobis is a blessing also. Climashield Apex, 3M, Lamilite, and Polartec are worth the cost. A Mil Surp Goretex Bivy Bag is a good addition to the system also.
I have been running the same wiggys ultima thule ftrss sleeping bag for 32 years! It is a light bag over a heavy bag that zip together. Use light of its hot heavy or both if cold. Machine wash at home line dry. Slept warm when the bag was completely saturated, wrung it out stripped down and climbed in. Yes it sucked for the first 30 minutes or so but slept warm and the bag was dry in the morning. Truly the best bags but agree a little on the heavy and bulky side. Mine has been on 4 continents and still going strong!
you should look into a butler bag they are expensive but you wont be disappointed (marine grade canvas with 3 layers of insulated flanel liner and flannel pillow up to -20 degrees , and full brass zipper. 100% made in USA , cedar city utah)

Hi, the only thing that I would add is to take along an empty pillow case and stuff it with clothing to make a pillow.

Some great advice Cliff. I was told as a young man that a sleeping bag rating will only keep you from freezing at that temperature, not comfortable. 🥶
That’s about the truth!
Very helpful!
Do you sleep in a tent or a tarp shelter??
