I did a set of gold 3x3 on a Jackson on my channel. I really dig the barrel tuning buttons and these things work really well. I wasn't sure I would like the look, but I've come to love it.
I actually had e whole bunch of tools that I had to leave behind when I moved from NY, of course it had all my nut drivers and socket set. It even had the little spanner wrench in the box I left behind🤣
@@SearchingForTone Don't feel too bad. The first time I changed tuners on a guitar, I used the pliers on my Swiss Army knife. By the time I was done, those brand-new tuners looked like something the dog chewed on.

I just installed a set on my SG. One thing to be aware of if you're doing 3 a side is that the holes on an SG style guitar do need to be redrilled to 10mm from the standard 9mm. It's a little more awkward than they would have you believe.

None of your guitars has locking tuners? Well, when you do, your new handle will have to change to @ilikeblackguitarswithlockingtuners - seems appropriate! 😂😂😂 My friend has an SE with PRS locking tuners and an Epiphone LP Modern with Grover locking tuners. As her slave with benefits, I like them because it makes changing strings much faster. Not necessary, but nice to have. Honestly, day to day, the Ratio branded tuners that came on my own acoustic guitar make more of a difference because that makes dialing in the tuning a breeze and it takes less turns to get there. So if I had to pick Ratio vs locking, I’d argue the Ratio gear heads are the best. Best of both worlds are Ratio Locking tuners - that would rock to have. Problem is the price on Ratio Locking tuners is high. If a brand like Guyker had something comparable for less money, that’s a win! The only thing that isn’t the same is that Ratio’s ratio for each gear head is different. Most copies have all 6 tuners set at 18:1. Ratio makes sure that it takes less turns for each string as the gauges get thinner or thicker from 12.1 to 39.1 on a six string guitar. That said, I’d love to see a brand like Guyker do that at a more budget friendly price. Thanks to Guyker for helping this channel out! You guys rock!
What’s going on fellow tone chasers! These were not out when I bought a new set of tuners for my strat build. I ended up getting a set of mini 18:1 ratio tuners but I plan on getting a set of these to replace them down the road (considering they were about the same price). Thanks for the review Brian, until next time, get naked, get your shred on, and keep it bluesy.
Bought a set of Guyker locking tuners for my Sigma acoustic, from Amazon. Absolute junk, after a week I threw them in the bin and fitted some Grover minis. It’s absolutely true that you get what you pay for and “buy cheap buy twice”. Unless you’re putting these on a really cheap guitar, I wouldn’t bother!
Probably just like every other company you get some bad ones every once in a while. I also have noticed alot of problems with various other companies when you buy from Amazon instead of company direct. It’s almost as if they are taking returns and seeking them as new.
I cringed when I saw you use multi grips to loosen the tuner lock nuts, a correct size hex socket would be my choice. Sorry, I am a trades guy and appropriate tool choice is important to prevent damage to valuable items.
@@keithcarter9396 I unfortunately left a tool box full of hex drivers and my socket set in NY when I moved, I knew this was going to be great for the cringe factor 🤣 I didn’t care about the old ones anyway cause they were cheap junk.
@dragonclaw88 I use a 3/4 torque wrench with a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer then a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer then a 3/8 to 1/4 reducer then torque it to 154 foot lbs and I always put red lock tight on them so the don't ever back off.
They make alot of different tuners, for a good price. But they are hit or miss. The nicest ones i bought do a terrible job. It breaks my heart because they're very nice looking on the guitar. But function over form. The other 2 sets I have a work perfectly. It's not the design or anything. It's the QC. Overseas stuff lacks quality.
Did you buy direct or through Amazon? I have been noticing there is a big difference. Granted the product is coming from the same origin, but I think sometimes Amazon may be trying to pass off returns as new. I’ve seen it through other brands
@josephzummo9685 I got a guitar one time that I swear someone tried to improperly level the frets chewed up the binding along the edges. Another time one was damaged with a pristine looking box…which is very odd the way shipping arrives these days
These were originally by Yamaha and released on a few of their older guitars. They are pretty good tuners!
At first I didn't like the look of them, but they have grown on me.
@@SearchingForTone They look great on that guitar :) Certain guitars would look strange or out of place but you picked a great match!
@PedalPoopers thanks. I like this carved out headstock like the Westcreek and Leo style. Too bad they don’t make the Vicers again.
