    Thank you Benrie. Just the information that I was looking for. That is the only piece of the puzzle that I was still looking for. I am off-grid with 40kW of battery (28kW effective ). I have changed my 3kW geyser element to a 2kW element and it is astounding how much 'smoother' it is on the battery. Geyser on timer but the wife has to shower at 02H30, and I need to shower at 06H00. Although a kW is a kW, it seems to have much less drain on the battery, and not so much of a spike in the load. Please keep posting anything new that you find out.

    Thanks so much Benrie ! The clearest answer I have seen, I've been looking at many vids, forums etc, could not clearly grasp the relationship between the % Value, and whether Grid was ticked or not. You put it very well, and then proved it with your switching geyser .... You're a star *****

    • @benriefourie115
      @benriefourie115  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Jody Anthony Roberts correct. Everything powered through the inverter. I, however, have and switch over to throw the stove and geyser to the utility side should I want to use all the equipment on the stove together ( that's about 13kW and has never happened)
      Also, if it's on the utility side, I dont have power to the stove and geyser in loadshedding, nullifying the reason for going solar.
      So, thus far, everything in the house runs 100% through the inverter.

      @@benriefourie115 The only issue people are reporting with running your geyser on the inverter is - the battery life (cycles) drops tremendously - you are therefore shortening the lifespan of your batteries severely.

    Hi, a novice here, fiddling with his own system. Awesome vids, Thankyou... I have a 5kw Sunsynk inverter with battery and solar panels. At the moment my Geyser is pulling from the battery and the pv when it comes on. I want to set it so that the geyser only uses pv and grid power, but no battery. Where would I go to set that. And then 2nd question, if possible, Can I set it so that when the geyser comes on, and SOC is above certain %, that it first uses battery until , for instance 80%, and then use grid from there on? Looking forward to your reply.

    • @benriefourie115
      @benriefourie115  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. So there 2x questions here. 1st, I will play a bit and see, but need some info. Is your geyser running on a timer? On what side if the inverter is the geyser connected?
      If you have a timer on the geyser, you could use the timer function, like on my video, for the set time the geyser runs, but not select the grid tickmark. Meaning it will use PV and Eskom to supply the load and not use the battery for that time.
      2nd question on the battery usage to a certain %. I would say yes, but it wont be easy. You can control you Sunsynk with Homeassistant, but you need to use Nodered running trough the modbus port. That way you can switch anything on or off with smart switchs on any condition ( like battery state of charge) , you can change inverter timers and charging/ discharging. But they is very complicated. I havent done it. When I have the time some day I will look into it for myself. But for now, I dont have an easy answer.
      Or perhaps if you have a timer on geyser, set your inverter timer for that time to 80%, so it will use the battery down to 80% and then pull Eskom to keep it from not going below 80%.
      You can ply with "prioritize load" but that would be to permanent and you wil use Eskom.

      Dankie vir die reply Bernie. Ek dink ek sal so bietjie speel. Die geyser is op 'n timer, ja. Ek sal dalk jou eerste voorstel gebruik. Die Time zone net verander vir hoe lank die geyser aan is, en die grid merk verweider. Dit sal darm help vir die tye wat die geyser geskeduleer is, maar nie as mens dit op 'n ander tyd wil aansit nie. Ek het gedink daar is dalk 'n manier om die non essentials net van PV en grid te laat run. BV as die son skyn en panele wek genoeg op, kan die geyser net PV gebruik, en indien dit te min is net die res by grid kry.

    What happens if the grid is down when you reach the battery percentage - will it drain below the set percentage or will the inverter switch off to keep battery at set percentage?

    • @pantoffelslippers
      @pantoffelslippers ปีที่แล้ว

      It drains below down to the inverter shutdown percentage. It’s usually 10% or 15% by default and is configurable on another screen.

    I have connected my generator to my inverter and set it to pick up at 40% and shut off at 95%.
    The generator should push 3.5kW, but it is only pushing power towards the house and not charging the battery at all.
    Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

    • @benriefourie115
      @benriefourie115  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Yes.l, it might be one of 2x things.
      What is your current load? If your genie is supplying 3.5kW but your load is 3.5kW or more, there is nothing left to go to the battery.
      But setting wise, get out of this screen and go into your Battery settings screen.
      Make sure Gen is also selected there and that the charge current is not set to 0Amps?
      Let me know if it works.

Ek sien wel ek sal plan moet maal met grysers(2). Hulle vat maar baie krag en hulle hardloop glad nie deur my 8kw invertor en 10 son panele stelsel. Dit lyk ook nie vir my of timers op geysers veel verskil gaan maak nie. Ek dink om nou een van die geysers te laat skuif om krag te kry via invertor stelsel. Sal jy dit ook aanbeveel?
