  • 2024 J24 midwinters at Davis Island Yacht Club race 2. We had a rough race our rig tune was off causing slow boat speed and poor point.
We recommend viewing in 2160p for the best viewing experience.

Nice, steady spi runs. A bit more speed would do, got rolled a couple, but from vid I can only see a lot of tiller work. I only raced 30 f or more, but I've never done so much tiller work. Weight distribution could be,
? and VMG unit. Good luck.

Thank you for watching, I definitely agree. Unfortunately we don’t have a vmg unit.

The captain knows better the rest of the people are there only to confuse him.🤓

Very nice, every day is a school day, seldom seen reverse mode of a yacht. Seen my crew while rounding first he wanted to show fastest hoist he threw the kite in the air then missed to grab the halyard the spinnaker became a trawl.

Nice video. Tips to the captain. Main trimming is hardly done on watching behavior main, you are too busy watching the field etc. No fine tune is done, you are just pulling the rope on automatic process not on keeping boat speed etc. You want to do all yourself, leave what is necessary to your teammate, and be more clear in what you are planning to do. When you are tacking, stick to one process and be consistent to one row of commands and follow it every time on and on. Train it until you hate it. Announce that you are planning to tack, give your teammates time to get ready, every time finish the exact same commands and then countdown 3,2,1 tack. Upon tack look at your trim and do it more smooth and fine-tune it on boadspeed. Not roughly like you do it in the video. When you improve this, you will definitely racing in the front. Good luck.

    (1) May have missed it, but I didn't notice you adjusting (yet alone playing) the backstay on the beats. What's your philosophy on-topic? (2) Great sets and very good downwind. I'd think it'd be slower and more squirrley with the outboard end of the pole bouncing up and down all the time because you don't use a foreguy. Not so?

      1) we felt like we didn’t have power in the rig so we didn’t use backstay and more of ease Genoa and main and the puffs 2) this is something the team has discussed we do feel that we are looking that kinetic energy every time the pole bounces and we plan to add a foreguy
