How can I be the first to comment on this video, three years later? I've just recently watched Penny Dreadful on Netflix, twice, back to back. It's certainly one of the most beautiful and compelling series I've ever seen, filled with the images and words my ghoulish little heart has longed for since I was a child. I learned to read early, so I could devour on my own the scary tales and poems and ghost stories our mother read to us. All things dark and frightful are my lifelong passion, and somehow, Penny Dreadful fulfilled those dreams and desires I've had all these years. I'm not a romantic and usually eschew the genre. But the portrayal of Vanessa Ives and Ethan Chandler and their fated bond nearly made me swoon. Rarely, if ever, have I witnessed such a dynamic connection of equals. I am entranced, and transfixed, by the way they meet each other on common ground they alone have created. I believe Ethan chopping down the evil tree, unbidden and unprompted by Vanessa, is perhaps THE most stunning and graceful act of pure devotion I've ever seen on a TV show in any genre. This video absolutely conveys every look, touch, word and feeling that passed between these two indelible characters, and which makes this pairing my very favorite. I know I will watch it 1,000 more times, and always, with LOVE ❣️
