Stats are stats. If Gonzaga wants to win it all four things must happen 1. Perkins must be an offensive threat 2. Rui and Clarke have to box out on rebounds considering they will play more long and athletic teams. 3. Norvell, Perkins, Crandall, and god forbid Kispert have to contain quick guards penetrating. 4. Few has to use a zone defense and even a full court press here and there to confuse or slow down faster paced teams.
@@reyg16 I agree. I just know they arent playing against the same athleticism in the WCC. Also, the WCC has some of the worst officiating in the entire NCAA. Teams in other conferences are actually allowed to play physical. However, I think Gonzaga will adjust.
You absolutely 100% correct man. Totally agree on 1. That is the most worrying one. Perkins ain't dynamic enough on offense like Williams Goss. They really need Tillie back to help with the scoring. Think the team that got to the final 2 years ago was more loaded and talented but this one is still good enough to win it.
I am impressed with Gonzaga now. they are a small school, but they get international players who do well. Few has built a good program which feeds itself. for a long time I discredited Zags cause they always played weak teams in conference but they do play a strong schedule in Dec.
As a Duke fan every metric and watching them play and watching them beat us you are are correct. And with Tille getting back in the lineup makes them even more interesting. But things do change in the NCAA Tournament. There are a lot of matchups that can be exploited when teams face them. As with every team, its one game.
awesome video. these zags are really on another level. 2019 national champs right there. i think the only team in the country that is equipped to beat them or has a chance is kentucky because their frontcourt can match up against the zags.
Tillie injuring his foot again was a huge bummer. Even if he's able to play in March, the last half of the regular season was needed to establish the chemistry/role with this group and his own rhythm. At this point if he can at least spell the bigs with a few quality minutes in the tourney would still be a plus. Just a shame.
Loved this video... I’m always a skeptic of Gonzaga but I think this year they ACTUALLY have something special. They’re gonna be dangerous come tournament time...
Also Gonzaga gets the the people they need for the team. Not like Duke that gets all the like top 20 high prospects. That’s why they got Anton Watson to be a good perimeter shooter and good passer, and Drew Timme for the 3pt. Also Pavel Zakharov for post. For the Gonzaga team in 2019-2020 season
demReactions Great insight and spot on. Mark Few is statistically a top 5 coach in NCAA history. What this team has accomplished is incredible and if we weren't in the WCC then there would be so many MORE Zag fans out there. Much respect bro. 🔥
Usually like these videos, but the point of this is just that Gonzaga is really good at ball screens because they have better players then 99% of teams they play.
And let's say for arguments sake the WCC is weak, well then it's even more incredible that Gonzaga has done what we've done against teams from power House conferences. Just adds more fire under our guys. #wethemdogs
The possibility that an 11-loss Saint Mary's team could get an at-large shows the WCC is a fine conference. They actually finally played people in the non-conference. I don't see them beating anyone in the tournament to be honest though
@@Boskibro Despite what I said, I didn't expect Saint Mary's to beat Villanova, no. If you thought I was talking about Gonzaga, to your point, I did have them losing to Florida St in the Sweet 16 but I would love to be wrong on that.
Coach Few never gets enough credit. The man is an offensive genius. It is really what made this program. Normally "mid major" teams like Gonzaga slow it down and play conservative, but even in 1999 vs. UConn, they were not frightened to run and gun. As it he progressed, the program started getting top 100 talent or international McDonald's AA like talents like Sabonis,, they continued to follow the Carolina system. I very disappointed by the UNC fans back east who disparage Gonzaga when they should view them as their little brothers. As Coach Few said in 2017, they model their program from the UNC system. I thought that would make UNC fans like Gonzaga, but I guess it is just not the case. There is just a universal hatred of teams outside of the BCS system.
It’s actually Tommy loyd who doesn’t get enough credi😢 he created this offense and proved so by taking unranked Arizona to a 1 seed his first year as a head coach
People say the zags don't play anyone. I think duke (last minute win), unc (L), tennessee (last minute loss), creighton (W), Arizona (W), Washington (W), texas a&m (W) and more are anyone. Just saying. I remember the first time the zags got a number 1 ranking back in 2012 (the olynyk clinic). Everyone was saying the played no one. They went 6-0 against the big 12 that year.
Except for Creighton, them "Ice" defenses either didn't switch or too passive! Luke Maye of Caroling was too lazy catching Rui coming down the middle! And Duke didn't communicate well in their switches....!
Definitely a fair argument! Zion and RJ pose a unique challenge for a defense. But with Jack White shooting 30% from 3, Jones shooting 28%, and DeLaurier/Bolden being non shooters -- you can get pretty creative in your defensive gameplans against Duke. That being said, the fact that Duke is STILL 4th in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency despite being one of the worst high major shooting teams is a testament to how special those freshman are
I agree Gonzaga is a great team, but they need to play more quality competition, and the rest of the WCC needs to step up its game. Watching Gonzaga play WCC games this year and previous years is boring and predictable because odds are good they'll win (and most likely blow them out).
Agreed. The lack of competitive conference games hurts Gonzaga come tourney time, 2017 runner-up notwithstanding. Look at what the AAC has done to the UCONN women's team. Not playing close games can make a difference.
Too few boxouts in championship. Led to 18 more shots in championship game . Defensive breakdown . That an turnovers unforced and steals led to 2021 final breakdown .
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are outscoring their conference competition at a historical level and are doing so at a clip better than the 2017 national title appearing squad did. With all of the new analytics that help determine ranking, this is all taken into account and which is why they're ranked #1 overall in the nation.
Traveling across the country to Chapel Hill is tough matchup for anybody any year. Bring UNC to Spokane, or even just a neutral court I think we see a different outcome this year.
Down two players and exhausted. UNC can't win if they're down a single player. Couldn't beat Duke unless they didn't have Zion, Gonzaga beat Duke full strength, while STILL down a big.
Mario Harvey I get your point about shooting over 50% from 3 considering that isn’t very likely, but UNC has shot the 3 well all year and always out rebounds other teams. Not to mention that team has made huge strides the last few weeks and is twice the team it was when it played Gonzaga.
Stats are stats.

If this team shoots better than 40% from three and doesn't get out-rebounded or give up too many offensive rebounds they are unbeatable.
