Claiming that America was founded when the first slaves arrived also doesn’t make sense because there were other English settlements in what is now the USA and other parts of North America before 1619. Are we just supposed to forget about Jamestown (1607)? They were there first, they didn’t have slaves, and they laid much of the groundwork of the country. By the time those slaves showed up, Jamestown was thriving and had been the capitol of Virginia Colony for three years. The pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock a year after the slaves, but they didn’t keep any themselves (or at least, not at the time). Their Mayflower Compact had FAR more of an influence on the country’s foundation than slavery did, and they actually made a point to befriend the Indians (even if it didn’t last).
Speaking of which, even if you want to make the case that America WAS founded on the oppression of non-whites, why 1619? The Spanish had been in Florida for just over a century by that point. IMHO he was a charismatic rock star. The half black part added to his perceived presidential qualifications for those who used emotion instead of any intellect. Plus McCain wasn't that great.
@@dboy6400 McCain was a trash fire same as Obama. A lot of people said that they were voting for him though based purely on his physical characteristics.
Idk why we elected him. He had shitty policies

Thank you for this calm and factual telling of the truth.
Jamestown, Virginia was founded in 1607.
very true however the Declaration of independence was signed in 1776 which was the official start of America. British colonists begun to arrive in 1607 but it took them a bit before they declared their freedom and won a war
@@christopherblake3190 We won independence in 1776 but we were founded in the 1600s. Jamestown precedes 1619. That’s the point I was making. We could even go to the Roanoke colony but I’ll compromise.

Why do you keep changing the date?
First it was 11/25 then the 26 not the 30th.
Put the video up already.

I understand. Meanwhile, you can watch this short and easily comprehensible video about the facts and the morality of the founding of America:

@Justretrospect your welcome!
Great explanation of proper history, thank you Wilford for an excellent walk through.
Proper history? LOL! The cause of the Civil War was not about freeing the slaves. And that is just one lie.
Thank you for the common sense. It's in shorter supply than it needs to be.
I vote that we stop saying "people of color". Everyone has color. No-one is transparent.
Funny, makes me think of Dr. Jack Griffin (Claude Rains)
I learned in High School that the first slaves arrived in 1609....don't they count ?
That's what I was taught too. This is why I disregard the so called 1619 Project. They can't even get the year right.
I love Thomas Sowell... I lose quote of his is.."racism was suffering a well-deserved death... Until".... Everybody knows this
Great video, I should show my classes!
It's profoundly sad to hear that something so bluntly twisted and ideologic like the 1619 project has won a Pulitzer... it shows how widely accepted such view of the world has become nowadays. It is profoundly sad. And even it were true, it does not promote any improvement or common ways forward.
It also shows how these awards mean nothing these days. For the right price or for saying the right words to the right people, anyone can be given an award. It's all manipulated to fit the narrative.
I'm black with a masters in history -- it's not true. It's ideology born out of frustration. It's disheartening that out of fear of appearing "racist", no one thought to fact check The 1619 Project with actual historians.
Great job!!
The 1619 Should not have won any prize except “Worst Fan-fiction ever”
My immortal slavery
No that's American Exceptionalism and the 1776 project.
And the Left generates a giant "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
I feel so privileged that Big Tech has allowed me to view this video. Please remember my gratefulness when you come for me because of “wrong think”.

And this is how they will lose their case. The United States was founded in 1776 but did not establish a new government until 1781 under the Articles of Confederation and later ratified as a federal republic in 1789. Also, the Cherokee, Seminole, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Creek owned African slaves back in the day, they backed the Confederacy during the American Civil War to keep those slaves. Do they have to pay reparations as well?

Tell that to the democrats.
Collective disagreement doesn't necessarily prove Facts. The Klan and Nazi Germany proved that.
@@ctunimprov3417 That goes both ways, I hope you realize...
Wow, how can they justified the lies of 1619?
They dont feel the need to justify their victim mentality...
@@cindymerritt9539 that is sad
Lies?
Is slavery not the hotbed issue that sparked the secession of the South? The Civil War?
Yeah!! Facts that do not conform to my biases are lies!!
@@carlojacques1225 Nope! Otherwise the South would have accepted the Corwin Amendment to the Constitution which would have guaranteed Slavery forever. While Slavery was and is the Elephant in the room, there were other issues as well.
That was a great video. Now it's time for some coffee.
Ok Aaron
Slavery was started by Antonio Johnson 1651. He won a Supreme Court case allowing him to own an African man. Antonio came to America in 1619, but of course slavery was not legal then. Within 30 years of landing in America Antonio had finished his indentured servitude, bought hundreds of acres of land, purchased a plantation, bought 5 servants (4 white women 1 black male), and he had won his case. Slavery did not exist in America in 1619. Antonio would not have been free to win his court case 30 years later making slavery legal in America for the first time.
Dang that was a good video!
Everyone seems to miss the most significant aspects of the project. It was indeed the single most impacting text I have ever read.
I read it several times just to be sure I was being objective and to try to understand why this commentary won a Pulitzer. I admit that my emotions were impacted, just like they always are when injustices are graphically retold, and I did some research on the boat that landed in 1619 on our future countries shore as well. All that had already been written about, so still not seeing the big impact.

"Come, join hand in hand, brave Americans all,
And rouse your bold hearts at fair Liberty's call;
No tyrannous acts shall suppress your just claim,
Or stain with dishonor America's name.

In Freedom we're born and in Freedom we'll live.
Our purses are ready. Steady, friends, steady;
Not as slaves, but as Freemen our money we'll give."

In many ways our Founders saw themselves as slaves to England which is why many of them disagreed with the institution that had shaped the world for thousands of years.

The question has to be asked who benefits from the division that is being sought by a small few in the country.
There are more than a small few people who want division. Also, we already know who benefits. The government benefits...they always have. Both parties benefit. They always have.
