Thank you so much for showing this. I will soon lose my view of Polaris and my days of manual polar alignment may be coming to an end. So thank you very much for this video! Clear skies!
I am glad it works for you. I just set up a small rig using the Celestron AVX mount with the Orion ED80 triplet refractor on my balcony. In no way can I see the north as the balcony faces south. I ran the NINA 3-point Polar Alignment and the end result was near perfect guiding. I was hesitant in the past in setting up on the balcony as I could only guess where the north celestial pole was located.
I'm trying to give Nina's tppa a go but it keeps telling me "Telescope cannot move primary axis, this is required for the automated slews around the right ascension axis!" I'm using an heq5 pro with an eq cable, is this a problem with my ascom? I usually use sharpcap for my PA but it would be nice to utilize this when Polaris is not visible.
Hi Pat, great video. I have found the plug-in to be extremely 'fiddly' and not nearly as accurate as the drift aligning I have been doing. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Have you tried it with your big scope?
I did, with that long 2800mm focal length. It took some fine-tuning but I got it under 20 seconds of arc in both planes. I was testing it, and it was doing fine until the clouds rolled in. I am going to test it again tonight ... weather permitting.
Love NINA, I have greats results with the 3 star alignment. Thanks for sharing

@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy well... I don't know if it will work for me, but seems like a no brainer that it would work for me.
Thanks Pat. Makes sense now. 👍👍👍
Very interesting video Pat, thanks !
Thank you, Siegfried.

How are you connected to your mount? I would suggest either EQMOD or GS-Server and be sure your ASCOM drivers are up to date.
