Wonderful video Alexi! I recently found your channel and it has been incredibly insightful. Thank you! We'll definitely focus on setting up relationships with Distribution companies to have a clearer offer for private investors. All the best and keep up the good content, Leo
Hi Alexi, love the content (email and videos). Question about financing, especially for those without a track record. You've spoke before about not needed a concept trailer/film for distributors or investors, but what about for audience development? What are your thoughts on using a proof of concept trailer or short to build an audience for your film early on? Especially using targeted marketing to try to identify who that audience is. Would having an existing fanbase (even if small) that represents a larger demographic help during financing or for getting the attention of sales agents/distributors? Specifically knowing who the primary audience is likely to be and how they generally consume film (theaters vs streaming, etc.). Is there any value add there?
There's immense value in knowing your audience and how they consume media, and ensuring your screenplay delivers for that audience. How you get there is up to you. Personally, I don't think you need a Proof of Concept to achieve that and usually, you identify and audience first and then market to them, not the other way around. A small fanbase won't help with financing, a big one can help but everything else still needs to be working (script, budget, cast).
What is your opinion on Celine Song's first feature film? She is a playwriter who made her first film. Her pitch was her script. No decks. No very famous actors in it. It was nominated for Oscars, Baftas and won other prestige awards.
@@AlexiOuzas I agree! But doesn't it go against your advice about preparing a solid deck and so forth? I know there is no straight path to anything but I would like to hear your opinion on why she did it with "just" a solid script and no deck with all the "bells and whistles"? Thank you
@@ricardopalma5710 I'm not familiar with the story of how she put the film together, so it's hard for me to comment. I always pitch with a deck. But like you said there is no straight path
Fantastic information and perspective. I really appreciate your detailed and logical approach and clear communication. Excellent channel.
