  • The 1954 Connaught B Type Racing Car, designated as “B4,” holds significant importance in the history of motorsport.
Innovative Design: In the early 1950s, Rodney Clarke and Mike Oliver, both innovative engineers, began producing Connaught race and road cars. Their cars became synonymous with technical breakthroughs. For instance, their A-Type racing cars featured an aluminum body, magnesium alloy wheels, and adjustable suspension.
Rob Walker Racing Team: The B4 was campaigned by the Rob Walker Racing Team during the 1955, ’56, and ’57 seasons. Rob Walker's team was a highly successful privateer entrant in Formula 1 and had a roster of distinguished drivers, including Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Maurice Trintignant, and Jo Siffert.
Race History: The B4 competed in several Grands Prix, including Aintree, Syracuse, and Pau. It was first piloted by Tony Rolt, known for winning the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans. Other notable drivers of the B4 included Jack Fairman, Peter Walker, and Reg Parnell.
Legacy: The B4 has been raced in Historic Grand Prix Cars Association (HGPCA) events in recent times and has won HGPCA pre-1961 races on several occasions. It has also participated in Goodwood and raced at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
The 1954 Connaught B Type Racing Car, B4, is significant for its innovative design, historic racing, association with the Rob Walker Racing Team, and its continued legacy in historic racing events.
