    So nice to see a real changing of the chain rings - most videos do this in too slick a manner - thanks for the real process

    You know it's easier to connect the link in the chain if it's not under tension. Next time try not putting the chain in the pedals ring, so the chain will be loose enough to connect it with the link, and then you can put it in the pedals ring, I hope it makes sense :-) and thanks for the video!

    First, be sure you deflate the wheel before taking off the front or rear wheel. Squeeze the part of the wheel nearest to the brake as you pull it off the frame or fork.
    Second, take the Sturmey chain off before you fiddle with the rear wheel.
    Third, when installing a new chain you must install the chain first, then set it on the crank, then install the derailleur.

      Exactly!!

    2.31 much better if you loosen and then remove the silver indicator pin assembly. That leaves the locknut on it in more or less the right place, makes it easier to remove all the bolts off the axle, and doesn’t risk damaging the internals of the hub gear assembly. Guess how I learnt this.

    Why do you not remove the Sturmey Archer gear change chain? It is constantly getting in the way and is simple to remove and refit.

      Also no need to completely remove the wheel nuts - just need to loosen them. Less chance of mislaying them.

    Thanks for this! Quick question. Should the rear cassette make a rattling similar to when free wheeling when cycling? Seems so weird to have that sound

    Is it possible to change cog 16T become 18T ?

  • @whazzat8015
    @whazzat8015 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can this not be done without breaking the chain , just draping the slack?
    yours was worn out, and not a bad idea when changing cogs
    Otherwise great job

    • @jitenkalyan6361
      @jitenkalyan6361  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for the kind comment! This could be done without breaking the chain as the chain would be moved away when removing the rear derailleur. Hope this helps.

    • @frankhooper7871
      @frankhooper7871 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brilliant Bikes recommend replacing the sprocket set when replacing the chain - I suspect the same would hold in reverse. You don't want a new chain with worn sprockets or vice versa.

    • @whazzat8015
      @whazzat8015 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frankhooper7871 My impression is that cogs wear at about a third the rate of chains, assuming chains are replaced when worn, and not allowed to get excessively elongated. Cog wear is usually conspicuous from appearance and performance. Preemptive changing of a minimally worn $100+ cog set for a $20 chain seems a bit profligate.
      Bromptons shift like a drunk doing the Macarena, so any shifting improvement is on par with merely taking their keys away.

    Pardon my ignorance, but is this the standard Brompton inner geared hub? Three speeds X two cogs?

    • @jitenkalyan6361
      @jitenkalyan6361  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s the three speed x 2cogs. The video is only about changing the 2 external cogs and not the internal stormy archer hub.

    • @Gogogordy1
      @Gogogordy1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jiten Kalyan Thanks for the reply. You changed the gearing then? Did you overgear or undergear it?

    • @jitenkalyan6361
      @jitenkalyan6361  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gogogordy1 Hi. Left gearing unchanged. Reason I changed was the old sprockets had a sharp edge to them. Possible damage.

    • @scin3759
      @scin3759 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is. You can also turn the 2 speed into a 3 speed, and if you had a 6 speed you will get a 9 speed using the same process. Koreans have produced a 5 speed rear wheel that can turn a 2 or 6 speed to a 10 speed, and can turn a two speed into a 15 speed for a cost under 340 USD once you fit 3 sprockets and a new pin into an old 2 speed sprocket. Do your research in Ebay.

  • @bernardkoranteng6969

    The first thing is to remove the gear link. I mean the hub gear chain.

    Brompton is a nice folding bike, but it needs to be taken to a new level. Patents have made the bike obsolete beyond its nice folding, and also quite expensive for what it is--- understandably when you consider this dinosaur is being produced in the UK. As a Brompton owner I am shocked at the medieval shortcomings of Brompton. The company needs to hire a few smart engineers to work on design in the UK and outsource, as did apple, its production.

    • @Darwinion
      @Darwinion 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends how you define "expensive". I thought so too in comparison to most high street folders. But then top range Dahons and Terns are getting into the same price as Brompton. Birdy and Hummingbird are just ludicrously priced. Being built in London is a selling point even though you might not think so. I'd expect around a 50% price drop if they were built in China. And then Brompton would lose that quirky "Britishness" and their USP.

    • @effyleven
      @effyleven 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that the Brompton is NOT made in far east is rather the point. And I don't think the engineers have done a bad job of making a titanium/carbon super-light ...
      ... and an electric.

    • @whazzat8015
      @whazzat8015 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bromptons shift like a drunk doing the Macarena, so any shifting improvement is on par with merely taking their keys away.
      Rugged and compact, but real '70's performance.
      Adequate, not inspiring commuter.
      Their lightening is kind of a joke.
      Getting them close to 10KG starts at doubling the price.
      Foldies are just heavy. They have to be.

      "Complicated"? It looked pretty straightforward to me. The second half of the job was SAME as the first, but backwards!
