Its a musical in the making- the creator is still making the songs and finding voice actors/ actors. Actually, he just released the 'circe saga' like yesterday so its very much still in production!
Also yeah, animatics have the same song but different visuals as the actual songs dont have visuals (most of them anyway). Since the musical isnt out and alot of ppl like visuals with music, ppl make animatics 😊

About the 600 men, remember that in ruthlessness there was "43 left under your command". It's a way to keep count of the lives lost in this travel. We're starting with 600, but this is already after the war, "10 years of war they've killed us slowly", people have already died, and that isn't stopping anytime soon.

I think with the ending of Open Arms its more to do with Polites (the glasses guy) noticing how much of a burden Odysseus has on his shoulders with all the guilt he has and is trying to tell him to not fall to pessimism and the horrors of war but instead to see how theres still good people and good things in the world.
There is an element of being overly optimistic but it is what Odysseus needs after going through so much pain and horror.

Also in regards to Polites, all of these men have been at war for over 10 years. The fact any of them can still see hopefulness to me at least is a miracle, and he is for sure a moral center for the fleet. Even after all the insanity of the Trojan War, he wants to see the best in people. Eurylocus, the second in command, first inclination is to just raid the island for food, after all they are soldiers.

Here’s a crazy number since you started with Ruthlessness. Odysseus left Troy with 600 men and would lose a small group before meeting Poseidon which would likely mean that he still had men in the 500s. Poseidon, after attacking the fleet, tells Odysseus “43 left under your command.” He took out almost the entire fleet by the end of his song.

So I’ve always had a thought about that scene in Open Arms with the butterfly. Butterflies are, in Greek culture, synonymous with Thanatos, the Greek God of Death. And given what happens next saga, maybe that was the animatior telling us that things were about to go down.
Also when you said not god speed but full speed, that’s not entirely true. The god most commonly associated with speed is Hermes, and if you’ve read the book, you’ll know that he IS on Odysseus’ side. So yeah, Godspeed.

There is a lot that goes into the actual music and motifs in Epic. Jorge has put a lot of the process, BTS, and explanations in his TH-cam shorts and Tiktok
    As a brief explanation
    - Odysseus during when he sings and has songs is accompanied by a guitar, the type of guitar is dependent on the mood of the current scene (Nylon string for emotional moments and electric for moments of cunning)
    - Eurylocus when he sings often is accompanied by voices in the background which will be more apparent later down the sagas. He represents the voice of the crew and their disposition in that moment not as a leader but a representative of sorts
    - When you hear a god in Epic sing it usually will have a synth aspect to it, that’s because that synth and electronic kind of sound is how they represent divinity (Zeus, Athena, Hermes, heck even a song that hasn’t even been released but rather teased called God Games is compromised of it)
    - Keep an ear out for repeating patterns in music, all the major characters but especially Odysseus, his son Telemachus, his wife Penelope, Athena, Circe etc have their our leitmotifs and they change as the story progresses to show the changes the characters go through
    - This was a series that took inspiration from games such as Kingdom Hearts, which has alot of boss fights. In Epic, boss fights are usually indicated by a choir chanting their name in the background either before or during the sing to show their grandeur and how dangerous the current foe is (cleverly done by using a program to mimic voices, not ai though it I remember right, just a simulator)
    | Spoiler for the next couple of songs in these sagas |
Athena has some godly abilities that are indicated through music
    - A sucking of the music almost like it’s going in reverse and popping between ears and a clock tik tok is called
Quick Thought: The ability to have entire conversation in the span of milliseconds in the characters head
    - There is another, however I can’t remember if it’s the piano trill or a different indicator however Jorge also has stated through one of these musical indicators she can astral project a version of herself over vast distances like how she does in “Warrior of the Mind” in the flashback

The reason 600 men is repeated so many times is because in the Odyssey Odysseus has a fleet of 600 men, but throughout his journey home he loses more and more leaving him to the only one returning. You can pick this up in several songs from the music full speed ahead has all 600, in the second song of the cyclops saga you can hear some of the crew being killed, in Luck Runs Out (the 2nd song of the ocean saga) he again mentions the 600 men he took to war, in Ruthlessness at the very very end Poseidon sings “43 left under your command” referencing all the men from Odysseus’ fleet he had just drowned, and several more in the clips that Jorge-Riviara Harrens (not sure if I spelled that right) releases regularly 😊😊

the musical term for the line "600 men" is a motif, which is a lone or melody that repeats throughout the song, in this case for Full Speed Ahead, the motif would actually be the song's title as it repeats in later songs. Its like a sort of inspirational one, pushing Odysseus and his men foward no matter the trials and hardships that await him.
There are mant more examples, like Just A Man which is probably the most common one as the song youve reacted to has already set up the theme of Odysseus' ongoing struggle with his humanity and morality. Anytime this struggle is brought to the forefront, the line of 'just a man' is sung in the same melody as itbwas introduced to us.
Warrior of a Mind is another one, its introduced next by Athena and its kind of the foil to Just A Man where she is calling on him to lay aside his humanity and mercy and do whatever it takes to survive. Whenever she appears and presses Odysseus to betray his morals, the tune 'warrior of a mind'is reintroduced.
Musicals as genius as this one are truly special because its such a complex story and just reading the epic many people get lost, let alone transcribing the characters and plot into a musical. By using the motifs and corresponding instrumental themes, it helps the audience follow the overall attitude and tone of each scene and song :)

It's not related directly to the main songs, but it's an expanded interpretation by the artist. The "Warrior of the Mind" that Wolfy did is visually impressive, but paced very strangely. There’s a lot of animations and some didn’t do a specific animation for a song so someone else does it to continue it so in a way it’s a community effort which I love 💜 Another cool thing is that the creator Jay used instrumentals for characters so Odysseus has an electric guitar as his theme which I think is cool! The Circe Saga came out on Valentine’s Day so if you want you could listen to them on their own since it’s new so no full animations yet but you got time till you get there!

what you are thinking of is a motif which is essentially a phrase or piece of instrumentation that is repeated throughout the musical in order for the viewer to make subconscious connections between different parts of the story for example the song just a man is referenced every time Odysseus makes a mistake because of his humanity usually in relation to a god's view of his action. likewise when Odysseus comes up with a plan to resolve a conflict the beginning of the horse and the infant plays.

a recent example that I enjoy is in the first song of the Circe saga which plays a part of full speed ahead. this helps establish a connection to Odysseus' boat which is important to the beginning of the Circe saga but never mentioned vocally

The "600 men" is important because at this point Odysseus has led this men during the troyan war and (as another song point out later) NOT ONE OF THEM DIED! ALL 600 OF THEM SURVIVED! FOR 10 YEARS OF WAR!
And then you got the cyclop. And Poseidon. And so many more things and that number trickle down to just 1 making it back home: Odysseus.
It underlines how good of a leader Odysseus was during the war and how bad things can go once you loose the favor of the gods.

I'm pretty sure the writer has spoken to the creator Wolfy so their animatics are the ones I like to watch just cause they'll probably be the closest to his vision.
Also that side eye on the stay back had me hella giggling lmao
