    I read that after "The Catch", Ed "Too Tall" Jones was on top of Montana and said, "Congratulations. You just beat America's Team." and Joe just looked up at him with a fire in his eyes and said, "Well you can go home and watch us in the Super Bowl with the rest of America!". lmao.

    I used to live on JAMESTOWN the main road down to the Stick and my first job was wrapping dogs in that stadium I was LITERALLY was either in the stadium or could hear the crowd roar when a big play went down for every highlight shown. Met Rice, OJ, T.O, Lee Woodall, and a bunch of other guys THANKS FOR THIS...its rough going back to the old neighborhood and seeing the mound of dirt where the stick used to be that will forever be hallowed ground.

    As a GIANTS fan,
    This is a Damn good video, but I'm surprised you didn't include any footage from the 93 Season when the Niners beat the GIANTS in the Divisional Round 44-3 or the 2002 WildCard where the Niners came back 25 points to win 39-38.
    That was truly 2 games that was hard get over, especially the 2002 WildCard.
    And Both Game were at Candlestick.
    If you ever decide to edit or make another video like this one, I believe the 2 games I mentioned would be some great footage to add in for the Niner FanBase.

    That Dolphins game in '92 was awesome. It was during a huge rainy season in Nor Cal. There was a drive that showed a perfect way to setup a scoring play. The Niners ran 2 reverses on the same drive, a few plays apart. Finally, on the third reverse they stopped behind the line of scrimmage and throw a TD to Tom Rathman....I always remembered that drive because of how well the Niners set up that play. I have to look that game up.

    The 1972 Divisional Playoff game against the Cowboys. The 49ers were leading by a score of 28-13 in the 4th quarter, and the Cowboys scored 17 points to win by a score of 30-28. The comeback was made possible by a successful onside kick when the Cowboys were still trailing 28-23, and was finished by a Charlie Waters interception to snuff out the final hopes of the 49ers.

    I was at that "Jerry Rice returns game". It was a crazy game. Jerry Rice returned. Kevin Green returned a fumble for a TD (I forgot that). They retired Joe Montana's number at halftime. Bill Romanowski spit in Shannon Sharpes face, which turned into a racial issue for the next 2 weeks on ESPN, because a white guy spit in the face of a black guy. Then Jerry Rice was reinjured while scoring a TD...afterwards we went to the Carl's Jr. in North Beach on Broadway and Columbus (it's gone now). My friend hit a bicyclist with his car. We paid the bicyclist all the money we had on us so he wouldn't call the cops. Then we went to the ATM and went to the Mitchell Brothers strip club and watched girls go down on each other for a few hours. Memories....it was awesome.

    I remember watching the last Montana game as a 49er vs. Detroit @ 4:00 on a Monday night game at a pizza place with a couple of co-workers. He looked better than he did before- his passes were sharp-fast, and he took over the game and won it. IMO he won the job back from Steve Young with that one outing. Next year he was with the Chiefs and beat us 49er's with Steve Young. Never understood the business end of the game, where a player who won 4 super bowls could be sent to another team having a few good years left in him. Montana did well at KC.

    • @legend1092
      @legend1092 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +M. J. Swanson Walsh's philosophy was "better one year early than one year late". Considering that Young provided more years and 1 more SB after Montana was traded, it proved to be the better decision. Montana was a legend for SF, but football is a sport where you can let your emotions affect your decisions. Young was the right call.

    • @mjswans
      @mjswans 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Legend Young was a political call imo. True they just missed their 3rd straight trip to the super bowl on a Roger Craig fumble the year before. Young was Bringham Young's great great grandson or something. He was good, but if you asked Jerry Rice in private who he caught better, it was Montana. Defences had no answer to the slant play, Montana to Rice or Taylor, but when they gave him to KC he still had a couple good years left where he made the playoffs. I still think it was a bad call so many years later. It took a few years and a few nfc losses before a group of top tier veterans signed on for 1 year just to get SF. past Dallas. And Young's monkey off his back thing was a little ridiculous. I see the same type of bad business decisions lately, but even worse...like they think Niner fans will be content with sub par everything. Like they don't care. Lifelong fan, but I'm not likely too root much for a losing management team content to put out a crappy effort.

    • @legend1092
      @legend1092 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      M. J. Swanson How was it a political call? It's a football decision. And though Rice said that he caught better from Montana, the stats clearly show a different story. It's true that it took about half a season for Rice to adjust to Young's lefty ball, but when he did, they were clearly more dynamic than Rice and Montana. Montana making the playoffs with the Chiefs really isn't that impressive. He never made it to the SB did he? It's not like he team was talent deficit, their defense was nasty and the AFC was absolute crap in the early 90's.

    • @mjswans

      +Legend Business politics ruined the team that was built during the Nolan, Harbaugh years. Stupid decisions like keeping Young for unproductive years, when a trade for offensive linemen or other necessities would have served the team better; unloading Bono to KC....
      Drafting A. Smith instead of Aaron Rogers...c'mon..it was a mistake. BTW..Alex Smith was another Utah guy probably related to Joseph Smith another mormon figure. There is a connection with taking players from Utah, and then giving them to KC. (or the Raiders of course). My point is business politics ruin the continuity and loyalty of teams players. This is why Kaepernick could care less if he plays for SF or not.

      +Legend Another point is the fan base. I don't know how Oakland fans stay so loyal to a team that wants to move everywhere but Oakland. The move from Candlestick to Levi stadium in Santa Clara was another business decision. Traffic is worse down there, and the place has no historic value.

    Ooh... one of the worst memories where Craig fumbles the ball in the Championship game vs. the New York Giants in the 80's is harsh to see. I remember that game and the 49ers just about had the game wrapped up. I remember Bill Walsh crying when they interviewed him after the game too. What a TOUGH AND DEVASTATING LOSS!!! I mean Kyle Williams was bad enough but I believe that was worse, well at least to me it was and always will be.

      ***** A Raiders/49ers SuperBowl?? That may've been worse than the actual L.A. Riots after the O.J. trial.
      You know majority of those 2 Fan Bases can't stand each other.
      Hell, why do think the NFL STOPPED the Annual preseason game between the 49ers & Raiders?? I'll tell you why, there are Dumbasses in Both FanBases that think the preseason game is a Gang War, and MOST LIKELY someone is going to be Killed, Shot, Stabbed, or Severely Beat Down over a Football GAME, because fans (not all fans) on Both Sides talk SO MUCH shit that it will escalate to Violence.
      The GIANTS & Jets share a Stadium and you don't hear about the Violence NO WHERE NEAR AS MUCH as compared to a 49ers & Raiders Game.
      I Guarantee a Shooting or Stabbing or someone being Hospitalized will make the news after the Raiders Host the 49ers in this upcoming 2014 regular season game.

    So how come Garcia's comeback against the NY Giants in the '02 playoffs didn't make the list? You must have not have appreciated what Garcia did in his tenure with the 49ers. He is the most underrated QB and 49er IMO. Good vid though. Go Niners!!

    • @RichardReyes
      @RichardReyes  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I respected Garcia for how he stepped in to some big shoe's and still take the team to the playoffs. That video was hard to attain though.

    Great compilation. Another ugly moment is the Seifert and Steve Young shouting match when he was benched and they were blown out by the Eagles during the Super Bowl year. Like others have said, definitely the Bowman "Pick at the Stick" is another great moment. Check out my video of that play.

    You left out the 49ers' 30-28 loss to Dallas in the Divisional Playoff in 1972. After losing back-to-back NFC Championship Games to the Cowboys in 1970 and '71 (one in Dallas and one in old Kezar Stadium in SF), the 49ers hosted Dallas again in the playoffs.
    San Fran led the defending champion Cowboys 28-13 going into the 4th quarter. (when there was no 2-pt. conversion) But Roger Staubach came in to replace Craig Morton and led a 17-pt. 4th-quarter rally to shock the Niners. Early in the 4th, Bruce Gossett missed a short FG that would've put SF up by 18. Even so, the Niners still led 28-16 with less than 2:00 to play.
    But 2 Staubach TD passes sandwiched around a successful onside kick finished San Fran off, knocking them out of the playoffs for the 3rd straight year.
    FWIW, this game was played on the same day as the Steelers-Raiders "Immaculate Reception" game, and was the last playoff appearance by the Niners until 1981.

      @1999glock 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup the birth of "Captain Comeback" Roger Staubach and the end of the 1970's 49ers teams. This was a bad day for the bay area in general. Earlier that day the Raiders lost in the "Immaculate Reception" game to the Steelers. Oh what I would have given for a 49er-Raiders Super Bowl. Other than the 1990 NFC loss, the 72 loss was the worst.
