The game implies that Sudra is merely a " low tech wall" created to keep intruders out of a mindblowingly advanced society. Athetos is trying to destroy Sudra to gain access to that society.
@@isauldron4337 Conversations with the Rusalki and Athetos as well as the in game hidden notes that get translated. It's been too long for me to actually find you all the specific instances of this happening, but if you read the text in game well, you will see hints to these things. Alternatively, you can just read the wiki entry for Sudra, which goes from implied to factual: "Hundreds of years before the events of Axiom Verge, Sudra was a gateway world between universes, a port to civilizations with advanced technologies. However, at some point, the Sudrans' progeny gradually grew less scientifically literate. As a result, this port world experienced a collapse and the gateway was closed. The Sudrans in the planet fell into a state of isolation, the result of their descendants regarding their own technology with superstition. The Sudrans forgot their world's role as a gateway to pass through the Breach and instead used the Breach to keep outsiders away. When the prime Trace arrives on Sudra, its civilization had collapsed, its inhabitants no longer remembering the purpose of their technology. The Sudrans had become an incredibly xenophobic society, shunning all outsiders, viewing their own technology with religious reverence, and halting all technological advancement. The Sudrans no longer permitted travel between worlds. They saw the Breach as a barrier to shut them off from the outside universe."
Comment about around 6:45 about making it to the clone scene where Elsenova turns off your body. I found out through watching a speedrun today that your body would not transfer to the start, but rather to the egg that is in the area where Trace has the hallucinations. The dev forcefully switches your default egg location to there when you first reach that area to prevent you from getting stuck outside that section while tripping.
axioms are things you assume to be true because they are so fundamental, so fundamental they do not even need proving. Stuff like "I exist" would be an axiom. If you put different axioms together you kindof get a universe. For example, in chess, you could say the rules of the game are axioms, and the game itself is a result of those axioms put together. Our entire world could also be made of axioms, that when put together produce the world. This is essentially the theory that trace came up with, that entities(creatures) withing a system made of axioms will percieve that system as reality. Axiom disruptor then probably disrupts this fundamental reality in some way, though I'm not entirely sure about that.
To this day I still don't understand the visual complaints. I can't possibly imagine this being hard on the eyes, but people seem to still make that claim. Are their eyes faulty, or could it just be they're upset cause it's a pixely kind of art?
It's not AS bad as some people claim, but I'm an artist and can see where they're coming from. There's a lacking sense of depth to some of the game's wall sprites, and the vivid pallet can irk the eyes and causes more strain than more normal, natural and softer colors do. That's not to say every environment is that way, or that axiom's style was the wrong choice, but it's off putting for some. It's definitely not anything like bad eyesight. Mathewmatossis did a great analysis of this in his comparison between axiom verge and Environmental Station Alpha. I recommend checking it out.
I wish you would have gone more in depth about the ending, that you're, or a copy of you, stuck in a fake world. veruska said she makes worlds, they even tried to trap athetos in one as seen by one of the notes. somehow they can't destroy your consciousness or body, you're more than a copy, maybe because you're not from there. it is implied the robots actually created asthetos by trying to trap trace. when he escapes the dream he might see the manipulative nature of elsanova and he'll try to stop them from keeping humanity from becoming an advanced civilization with the technology they're hiding
10:13 why halucination? what if he IS the monster that transformed from his body and the other Trace he saw, WAS another Trace? after all those minds can be copied.
I've noticed that every time I upload a video that isn't Sonic or Bionicle related, I lose a few subscribers, and then they start climbing up as normal again a day or so later. ...huh. I guess those people are trying to tell me something.
NickonAquaMagna Hey brah I've been following your videos for years now and I love how intelligent you talk about things. Whether it be Sonic or not, I'll always be your faithful subscriber! Keep up the good work man :D
+NickonAquaMagna Sri thank you & you got my full support & respect as well, sorry about your dog though, my condolences, thank you for showing me this game in a whole new different way, I bought the game on Steam on this past Wednesday & I loves it, I bought the original soundtrack over 2 weeks ago on Google Play, now it's on both my phone & tablet as well, and again & thank you so very much Nick & a great job well done! ^_^
did anyone analyze traces name with respect to athetos?. if you look at the definition of trace, one definition "a sign or evidence of some past thing" ... even if you look at the other definitions.. you see similarities to the character. thought it was interesting how meaningful his name is
Cheers mate. To me the reality he is experiencing takes place in another dimension which as you say in the video is clearly defined by different laws of physics. This reality is not outside the bounds of possibility either especially when we consider the future of VR. It may be a real possiblity that one day the human conscious could be transfered into a digital world. If you could exisit in such world especially one with it's own laws of physics and are able to be fully sentient in such a place then what would be the difference between that reality and ours. In fact how could you be sure of the validity of our own reality.
Yeah and if you glitch them they act like the green floating enemies: they create a huge explosion when dying. If you can glitch the 3 of them in the same spot and kill them close to the boss's mouth you can actually one-shot it!
Oh hey it’s nick from planet ripple. My original theory when playing the game was that all the bodies underneath the robot snake lady were previous traces who either failed or found out too much. Hell even athatos said if he says too much, they’ll kill trace. My main issue with the game is how cryptic parts of the game are. Pass codes to get certain power ups, the odds of the lore pieces we get are unlegible native sudran language, don’t even get me started on the corrupt areas. Unless you know what’s up in axiom verge, it’s hard to see the odds of the non main story content. Aesthetically the glitches appease me a lot because mostly they are based off of actual graphic errors and not some “epic hacker cyber space” stuff that’s become very prevalent in pop culture.
Sudra looking so strange is something I interpret as the effect of the Breach on Sudra's environment. In AV2 (spoilers ahead) the "Emergence", an ancient form of Sudra that you briefly visit at one point, while still clearly very alien it looks more natural with less blocky environments, meanwhile the alternate "Breach world" that you explore exclusively as the drone carries a lot of similarities to Sudra's eventual appearance in AV1, from the garish (to us) colors to even the wildlife, implying a sort of leakage into Sudra from the Breach more severe than just the individual pockets of Breach energy that block paths and whatnot. Now it could also be inferred that AV2's version of Sudra just looks different due to a change in art direction, but I think the evidence is strong enough for both interpretations that either could be true, the former is just more interesting to me Edit: I'm aware that this video is from way before the sequel was released, so it's probably a little disingenuous of me to superimpose knowledge about this series' universe on something made before said knowledge was available
I swear, it's happened once or twice to me, just not often. One second they're there, the next, they're gone. No explosion, no essence left behind or anything.
Somehow, I have the feeling the author attempted to create an utopia, yet... like many authors, he invented something to challenge that utopia, making it a dystopia. As much as we wish for things like immortality, eternal piece and control... we go back to things like finity, conflict and chaos to make us feel alive by being surrounded by death.
What's the different between cyber space and alien world, even though he was in digital world but Wikipedia said he is in alien technology world not cyber space like Digimon
When you Address Disrupt the zombie enemies, it turns on friendly fire. Those zombies actually damaged one another, which is why they "disappeared". Of course I wasn't going to read through nearly a hundred comments to see if someone mentioned it. But, I've done it, and I'm sure many people have. I just wanted to make it clear and known that this is what actually was happening to the zombies.
Great analysis Nick, these games aren't really my cup of tea though it still looks interesting regardless on my preference. P.S Will you still keep your original SA1 review after completing your new one.
I've never played this game before and this is mostly talking out of my ass .... but looking at how the enemies flicker, and given the name of the axiom DISRUPTOR, maybe it's that the enemies aren't being overloaded with data, but are like packets of data that are sent on the internet, and the disruptor makes it so that these packets don't quite reach the destination and are just destroyed. for that matter, maybe this planet you're on is one big peice of data or information, and everything on it are packets of data being sent. the glitchy pixels might just be corrupted data also. plus the rebirth chambers might just be sort of like save data backups, or websites like mediafire, areas that just archive information and data for later use. as for the pathogen, this could very well be the equivelent of a computer virus, or those viruses that hijack emails, and other online resources, making them function improperly, also explaining why trace would be suffering this way.
Bradley Bradley Not for a little while. Sorry. If I didn't have anything else to work on, I could get it done in a few days. Unfortunately, I am juggling a bunch of other projects at the moment.
I also really loved the story of Axiom Verge and your analysis was incredible. AV seems to intentionally leave things just vague enough or unexplained to allow this sort of deep thought-provoking analysis which is awesome imo. I noticed Jonathan Blow in the credits to AV which is kinda interesting b/c he also seems to be a big fan of using this type of story-telling as in Braid (maybe inspiration for Happ?)

Well, given how that axion is supposed to work, Trace could easily have trapped himself in an artificial world.

I don't think sudra is cyber space in PC like Digimon but more different space like cyborg alien's world with technology better than earth
Gee this game sounds like soma, has a compelling story but hurts your brain
The bodies don't disappear. The Address Disrupter effect on those types of enemies is that they can harm other enemies now.
