Taylor actually revealed in an interview that she wrote this song one week before she released the whole album. WHICH IS INSANE I CAN'T BELIEVE IT SHES SO FREAKING TALENTED
I agree brother. Evermore seems to have the most tracks that hit me the hardest...a very close second is Folklore. I think this the most underrated track on Evermore, hauntingly beautiful in my opinion. 💖
I was listening to this earlier today! The whole album is awesome. Very bittersweet. I love how she changes the timing and pov. It's got the rawness of the breakup in the present, and the mention of the good times while it lasted, and a promise of happiness in the future- just not with each other. Who hasn't experienced this? And the rawness with simplicity of the production, just adds and echoes this truth of the human experience of love found and lost. IMHO.
I still feel like the whole thing is a metaphor for her relationship with Scott Borchetta and all the s*it that went down after she decided to leave Big Machine. Similar to how she used the metaphor of divorce in My Tears Ricochet (also about Scott). But who really knows for sure! Could also be about more than one person/more than one thing.
i'm glad you like it! and seeing someone who appreciates evermore, so so happy:)also, this song is thought to be about the divorce of abigail, one of taylor's best friends since high school. this might be taylor's lyrically best song. also taylor has an another song about abigail and her high school years it's called fifteen(taylor's version), i recommend you to watch it's lyric video, it has photos of her and abigail
She wrote this song with title happiness but the lyrics extremely sadness🥲 however it is my fav from evermore album alongside with coney island and evermore

This now feels like her and Joe's relationship. The dress she wore at midnight, wow.
