Christopher Winkels you’re actually better off investing in this synth as it will more than likely never be made again so it will appreciate relative to the dollar in the long run. Especially with real negative rates for the foreseeable future
@@fromdusktodawn509 Dave will DEFINITELY never do this again. He was opposed to the idea in the first place. I think it's like with Moog, they were pushed hard enough and finally accepted. I'm sure it's stressful doing reissues because it will get 100% scrutiny if not done 100% perfectly. It's a terrible gamble to do one, but if it works out, it really makes the brand get serious brownie points as a whole. (plus, he's 70 now, I doubt he'd be around for another release, and frankly I don't trust anyone else to do it. At 70 he still seriously knows his stuff.)

I got to borrow my buddy's Prophet 5 and Tascam 4-Track cassette "Porta-Studio" and made some multi-track'd Prophet 5 doodlings. I own a lot of synths today including a Prophet T8… this piece is really beginning to tempt me… especially the 10 voice version.

Keep in mind that these patches might not be in the final version :) This is a beta version and this guy was tasked with building some of the patches which might or might not be final.
We always say “why can’t these manufacturers make synths that sound as good as the old ones?” Well here ya go. Maybe through his trip down memory lane Dave figured out what that “it” thing is and will put it in the rest of his synths moving forward, because nothing analog since DSI started has sounded this good. He clearly can make “that” sound today. IMO nothing analog he makes from here on out should sound any lesser.
I totally agree. I'm really impressed with how good this one sounds. This to me is the first very good and classic sounding analog polysynth in a long time. It sounds just like any good example of a Prophet 5 I've heard. I also love that he added both the SSM and Curtis filter in it, so that you can emulate both Rev 2 and Rev 3 patches acurately.

Yamaha should make a remake of theire good old G-1 synthesizer from 1973. It was the first real polyphonic synth ever. A 8 voices synth. Abba, Stevie Wonder, Keith Emerson, Led Zeppeline, Gino Vaneli and others used that. synthesizer
@Satanic Panic Fun and Games Behringer is still releasing a Pro 600 desktop and we can expect a demo soon, they released some pictures. Because the Prophet 5 rev 2 is probably overpriced as most synths are, I will buy the cheaper Behringer one, because I can't afford to pay 2000 on a synth and I don't care if it sounds on point or close to a Prophet. First time Ive seen this apparently perfect remake of Prophet 5. Boy, I don't think I could ask for more. Looks, sounds unbeatable. Coolest instrument ever in my book. Like a candyland of classic analog sounds and effects and beyond. Done deal.

I own a Sub 37 and been looking for a polyphonic synth. I saw Moog dropped the new MUSE which sounds amazing on demos. I was also considering a P6 or Trigon. Would the P5 still be your pick 3 years later. To my ears this sounds much warmer than P6.
This is awesome. I hope it's not some limited edition and that it will be available for a while because there's no way I can come up with that much money before they go out of production. I just put that much into my retirement last month for this year. If only I had known earlier. :'(

This is rather incredible. I own a few Sequential synths and this is by far their best effort to date. It's the first modern synth that sounds like a vintage analogue (that I've heard anyway). And the price is soooooooo reasonable. I might have to snag it just on those grounds alone. This from a Rev 2 Prophet owner as well :).
Not having a go and I'm obviously in a pretty small minority but they seem wildly over priced to me. For $1400 you can get a 16 voice Prologue that is pretty similar in terms of spec, paucity of LFOs and modulation possibilities included. You're looking at $4.2k for the 10 voice Prophet. Prologue misses out on aftertouch on the keybed (a $100 expression pedal gets you there mind you - it does respond to aftertouch) but picks up effects and the user programmable 3rd oscillator and effects. I realise it's "not a Prophet" - but is the sound of any Prophet that spectacularly different? It feels to me like if these synths had any other manufacturer's logo on them, there would be a very different response.
@@bcm70 Fair dues. I have a rev2 Prophet 5, original, and this kind of nails that sound pretty good. To some that alone will be worth the price premium. The Fatar keyboard is nicer than the Prologue as well. The Prologue has versatility at the oscillator level and the Prophet has a bit more at the filter (I think they said all three filters were included). The Prophet doesnt' have as much scope in terms of sound design but that's probably not the point anyway. It sounds like the originals and that's the main selling point. The comparison to the Prologue should probably start and end there. If you like the way the Prologue sounds the answer is clear.

@@bcm70 Just a short addendum to this. I recently discovered that the Prologue doesn't actually have a true analogue signal path. The outputs are essentially post-conversion (DAC). Which is kind of weird since you can't ever hear it in analogue this way. I don't know why they did this but it appears that they did. There is no bypass so before you get to the main outputs the signal has been converted to digital then back to analogue again. Strange decision but I came across this comment this morning and thought I'd let you know. Cheers.

I've just been saving for a Prophet 6 I wanted to buy the next days. Damn! Obviously this beast has the richer and nicer VCOs and Filter, but much more limited mod options and smaller tonal range. I guess it's worth it for everybody who can afford a whole synth park and I'll stick with the 6.

I've just been saving for a Prophet 6 I wanted to buy the next days. Damn! Obviously this beast has the richer and nicer VCOs and Filter, but much more limited mod options and smaller tonal range. I guess it's worth it for everybody who can afford a whole synth park and I'll stick with the 6.
