Thank you for always making great videos, I have my first Point Muay Thai match coming up and your videos have helped my progress a lot. You’re like another one of my coaches at this point lmao
I honestly prefer blocking over catching kicks Gabriel, because od the ruleset change in Kickboxing with no catching the kicks allowed, but our coach still showed us a few of the more sneaky ways to catch kicks without getting warned in Kickboxing Gabriel but this video has really helped me better understand the idea of the X block and even more ways to catch kicks efficiently Gabriel, amazing effort you put into these videos! 🥊
Oh, hi dad!
Something i never hear mentioned is stepping forward. I use to step in so point of impact is thigh or knee. But that was in karate where it was a block, not a catch and also the round house was not whipped all the way through lol.
I only recently started kickboxing, so i dont know if that is a viable option now
It sure is. In fact the sooner you do it and the deeper you go, the better. Stops the kick before it has had time to develop real momentum, knocks them off balance and puts you up close to give a power punch.
Just the belts and gloves sold me😢
umm how to flare out your lats? no before that, how to condition your sides to receive kicks??
First step: have lats 😂
Jokes aside, do some pulling exercises and ask your favorite sparring partner to kick your sides (not too hard of course)
@@jty1999 ok i fail at the first step lol
Do pull-ups. Neutral grip and wide grip
There was a time during training we were drilling catching kicks and squeezing to hold the other guy in place. My partner was taller, sort of on the leaner side but still heavier than I was. When I caught his kick, he felt incredibly heavy when he pulled it, and was just able to pull it down and break through my catch. Meanwhile, I couldn't escape it at all. Is this a height difference issue? Weight? Or something else, like not catching at the right area?
It's most likely the way he is dropping his weight, how connected he is, and the technique he is using to get his leg out. No one should be heavy though, you should would on posture so that the leg you catch is never heavy. It's heavy because you are resisting the force incorrectly. Let the weight travel down your skeletal structure into the ground. But you have to have correct posture to do that to maximum effect. Still, you can do it to some degree without correct posture.
When he pulled his leg out, he lurched my entire body forward. How do you resist the force properly?
There are weight classes for a reason. Sounds like you're feeling the extra weight he has on you.
How you going to block spinning kicks to the knee?
Bro what 💀
Who are you fighting Jon jones or something ?😂😂😂
lift the knee or interrupt the kick

Gabriel, you do not need to swing the arm down when delivering a round kick... Why does everyone do that? I know you're strong enough to keep the lead hand out. like a gunsight...
You use it to create power. You don't have to swing your arm, but if you want more power, it's a way to add power.
لا اله الا الله
Catching kicks works best if you move into your opponents kick when you catch it. Cuts his power in half. This only works if the timing is right, otherwise I personally wouldn’t recommend catching a kick or you get full power of their kick on the catch. Blocking is last resort imo oh crap that’s a kick last second drop elbow move with the kick to reduce power of it while protecting vitals.
weird, all the gyms I've been to teach to catch the kick as you're moving away from it not towards it.
Yeah all my coaches through the years taught me to move away from the kick when catching.
@@poatan187 you can, but tougher to sweep or do anything with it after catch as compared to stepping in and jamming with the catch then you can sweep trip slam etc different options. Everyone’s different just my opinion and experience 👍
I've always heard moving away to bleed energy
Oh no, Ouch
