As a former bus driver in Philadelphia (30 years) I wish Chrissie was one of my passengers. Saw her at Live Aid 1985 at JFK Stadium. Took me a half hour to get there.

I met Chrissie once. She did strike me as being rather skittish and uncomfortable around fans. Can't say I really blame her though. She also has a habit of freaking out when being photographed in concert. I saw her stop mid-song and warn the audience that she was going to walk if one more person took a snapshot. The audience sat there stunned. I got the impression that flash bulbs distracted her. She's still the Pride of Cleveland/Akron though.
Flashbulbs distract ALL performers and rightly so. I also met her and she is a little skittish but she did warm up considerably after a while. I still love her and always will!
She also likes to drop a lot of F-bombs

Chrissie hates fame; she was always a regular person. Hey, read her memoir. The first couple of chapters talks about Ohio, the pretty downtown, her family upbringing. She just happened to go from the cab to the curb with someone on her back. She is a woman who needs privacy.

I'm from her generation and WAS a muso for 20 years, knew a lot of people who were musos and actors because that's what we did. It's not a big deal. The rest is just bullsh*t. I'm a guy but I hated being hit on constantly BECAUSE I had just come off stage. I was playing and singing because it was fun . . . never cheated on ANY girlfriend (unlike some of my associates). I'm NOT a fan type of person so if I meet someone well known, if we have something in common, great . . . . . if not . . . you move on. I would NEVER go out of my way to meet or be introduced to someone "famous'.
I came into one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants getting a takeout order, the manager I had know for decades. It was a quiet night and she said, would you like me to introduce you to K.D. Lang? I looked over then said, thanks, but why would she want to meet me and besides, she's eating alone and looks like she likes it that way.

The big issue with fame is you become a part of your fans lives, no matter how small. So when they see you there's a connection for them. You on the other hand have no personal connection with someone who comes up to you and the inevitable question is 'why are you bothering me?'...well the answer is simply that, because you're a part of their life and there's a connection for them there.
Doesn't of course stop it being difficult for you if you're not a people person, because I'm sure it happens so often when you're out and about.
