  • Welcome to the world of owning a car that doesn’t have a dipstick. Does your oil level indicator show you have an excessive amount of oil?
    In this video we discuss some of the issues you can run into using the electronic oil indicator, and how to correct the oil level should you need to.

    This was a life saver. Did my oil change today and i lacked sleep so i forgot to drain the second drain plug that holds at least an extra quart. The car protected itself by not allowing me to exceed 2.5k rpm and gave me all kinds of alarms. This solution is the most cost effective way to solve this big headache of a problem. Thank you!!!!

    Under prior ownership my E63 M6 had it's oil changed every 1,500-2,000 miles. Now I need to top off the oil with a quart and this is super helpful. Thanks!

    Nice video. Please i wanted to know if you can help. I just bought a M5 E60 V10 2006 model. The car starts but the automatique gear nod doesn't move. Do you have an Idea please? The service engine light stays on

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure the bonnet is fully shut. You need to scan the car for codes to see why the engine light is on. It may give you a brief description in the idrive

    does the car continously monitor oil level or do we need to do checks on it by doing the reading ? in other words if it says engine oil level ok is that from the last manual read or the cars auto last read if any ? thnx

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will auto read over the long term, so the level shown is current. You only really need to do another read if the level has been corrected

    Is there a way to build the oil pressure before starting the engine? So you turn it on the starter until the oil light goes and the sparks and injectors are disabled for the time. It would be useful in the situation where you don't drive the car for a longer period

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could disable the injectors using ISTA, or pull the fuel pump relay & DME relay and crank it. These cars have a very efficient oiling system though, primes really quick so wouldn’t be too concerned

    Hi the computer said that my oil was 1l below minimum. I put a litre in an tryd to do the test. When I see my reading it says 1.5l. But when I look at your video it says 1.5l but the middle picture when you look at the arrows yours is coloured in orange where mine is blank

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drive it around a bit and give the computer a chance to take an accurate reading

  • @TheM5Dog
    @TheM5Dog 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    +1.5l is fine. My engine builder here in the UK (Mr VANOS) says it is best to keep it around +1.5l).

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use 1.3 as the cut off. If you use 1.5 how do you know the level isn’t beyond 1.5? The indicator doesn’t read higher than 1.5

    • @TheM5Dog
      @TheM5Dog 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MTechGuy when it is above 1.5 mine does actually warn me and tell me there is too much oil in it. 1.5 and below it doesn't.

    When doing oil change, just put exactly 8.5 litres in. Car will be fine and no faffing about afterwards.

  • @philippk1125
    @philippk1125 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why don't you leave it at 0.8 I don't understand you..It's perfect. You filled up again even though it was more than fine and again overfilled..
    I never fill up to max. (only after a new oil change) 0.5 is good enough and I do an oil level measuring every time I drive to always be sure.
    I have a facelift though with 2 oil plugs, whereas you pre-LCI only has one and always keeps some of the old oil in. That's the reason it reads more even if you put the right amount in.

    • @philippk1125
      @philippk1125 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some people with a pre facelift change to the facelift oil pan to get 2 drain plugs and to be able to completely let all old oil out.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because I’m obsessed with maintaining the oil level the max line 🤪 I’ve always found when the long term (accurate) reading does its thing, the indicated level always drops. 0.1 over is nothing

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get a shade over 9 litres drained every oil change with the single drain plug

    • @marknewman9837
      @marknewman9837 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct procedure is to allow the car to idle for two or three minutes before turning off the engine prior to doing the oil change. This is supposed to allow all of the oil to be pumped back into the main sump where the drain plug is. I’ve got a 2010 car with the second drain plug, and when the procedure is followed very little additional oil is recovered from the second drain plug...

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, that’s the procedure I use each time. Check out my E60 M5 oil change vid 👍
