This makes me think that Minnie was born with royalty and then married Mickey, making him royal in-law. I know it's from Mickey, Donald, and Goofy: The Three Musketeers, (which even though it's a direct-to-DVD movie, I high recommend it for it being a good cartoon feature.) but I think it makes sense in a way for the events in this to be a part of Mickey's past.
It is shown that Disney Castle was being built in Timeless River era. That castle was built probably built for Mickey. So it is to assume that he did become royalty because he originated a royal bloodline.
I'm so glad Square gave this movie justice with a whole world based on it!
Pretty sure Donald running away to find a new job is the best cutscene in the series, hands down.
