Ah yes the headhunter. The Z95 is a very common sight. Yes it is a relic but Incom kept it alive with updates an packages. Whether you are a pirate looking to add fighters to your crew or a System Defense force needing a reliable fighter the Z95 Headhunter is a solid choice.
I consider it a necessity to respect your Z95. It's an old and flimsy, sure, but it's still reliable. The X-wing may be more well-known and more powerful, but the Z95 laid the groundwork. I suggest trying to fly a standard TIE for a couple decades. Trust me, you'll wish you had SOMETHING, ANYTHING with shields, life support, and a hyperdrive, even a Y-wing. Rebel pilots were pretty lucky. They were treated well and given the best the Rebellion could afford. Us imperial pilots weren't so lucky.
I'd trade any Y-Wing for an Z-95. Especially because of the ion cannons... very useful indeed! Then again, a Z-95 with a full complement of rockets can bring havoc on a enemy formation even before they meet... something the X-Wing cannot.
You don't need shields when you spend 99% of your time circling around a nav buoy or space platform inspecting passing transports for contraband. Sure, we always hear stories about TIE squadrons taking on rebels and pirates, but seriously you could remove the weapons on most TIEs entirely and it would be weeks before their pilots noticed.
The triple blasters are at least 3 light blaster cannons, no need to deride them as "just rifles" even though they may feel that way when they only hole a TIE's radiator/solar panel and it keep flying
Just found your channel recently after my interest for battletech peaked again, love the format and the 3D models! Keep it up! your videos are unique, and informative.
The Z95 suffers from a bit of backroom brawling. Being expected to run both atmo & space superiority roles, it doesn't do well at either. However, the astroframe & stock power plant are just rugged/powerful enough to handle a plethora of upgrades. Some of which can be extremely esoteric. A prime example being the removal of the concussion missile system in favor of mounting a heavy, rapid-fire laser cannon in the nose, & two triple-blasters tuned to fire ion bolts. With the space saved to mount a heavier energy shield system.
The sheer amount of after market parts, and upgrades you can get make up for it's age. You can new more powerful weapons, hyperdrives, shields, and countermeasures with relative ease on black markets if you know where to look.
"I hate the Z-95 Headhunter." It's treason then.... 😂😂😂😂 I love this Fighter due to it's antiquity and adds a layer of historical depth to Star Wars Starfighter Production. It's an outdated hunk of junk that led to the more popular models like the Clone Z-95 Headhunter, ARC-170 Aggressor, and T-65B X-Wing. The Z-95 was highly modular and had hundreds of variants. They're not the best... But they're something lol.
You call the Z-95 archaic many fringe groups and low income planetary defense groups still build Aurek class Hyperspace snub fighters. A 4000 year old craft that could still outfly and out gun Imperial Tie fighters.
Obsolete, yes. However, in the RPG it has its uses. Step #1: Get a used one in decent shape for cheap. (Even salvaged is OK, so long as the frame is solid.) Step #2: Gut it down to the airframe. Step #3: rebuild with updated electronics/targeting/controls/weapons. Upgrade the shields. and tune/upgrade the engines/thrusters. Step#4: add an aftermarket hyperdrive module. (Won't be as good as a factory spec one, but better than no hyperdrive) Step #5: reassemble. taking care NOT to alter externals. You now have a pretty decent ship that looks like an obsolete piece of crap. Makes sure that most of the time you stick to known z-95 capabilities/limits. But if you really need it, you have a lot hidden in your back pocket.
You know what? This model of Z-95 made me love the design overall, I never seen it depicted so well and cool, mostly it's just a clunkier, unwieldier X-wing, but this actually looks really cool on it's own. Great work, love your channel.
Even though I've just listened to one of my favourite starfighters being torn to shreds this was still a great video, the 3d models used for the ships are decent and the music from the Rogue Squadron N64/3D game is the cherry on top. Definitely worth a like and a sub. :)
TIE Fighter & X-Wing, probably X-Wing Alliance. It's just that the Z-95 basically has shields made of paper. One or two hits and your are done for. Not very forgiving unless you have lightning reflexes. But still better than an TIE fighter I guess. Not that much better than anything else.
@@katarn999 Obi-Wan remembered in Episode II. As did Anakin in TCW Downfall of a Droid when a Munificent Frigate's main Turbolaser Cannons scored a direct hit on his fragile Delta-7B doing no damage lol.
I wound love to see your take on the IPV-1. Whether you go with the flattened teardrop with the concorde snoot, or more of the blimp look from unmodded XWA. (It;s funny one of the most popular mods for EAW took the base EAW's teardrop and made it slightly more like the blimp while the XWA graphics update mod made the blimp look like the teardrop almost completely.

I've heard that some techs on Sarlucif fitted a squadron of them with a swing-wing mechanism for better atmospheric handling.
@@mightyrobot42 That's not a special modification, those are just the very fist classic originals. A total rarity these days.

Man that intro animation with Rogue Squadron music followed by the ship description with the mission select and hangar music... perfect intro

The Z-95 is the suicide version of the X-Wing. Still, better than a TIE-fighter. Would swap it for a TIE Interceptor tough... ;-)
A Tie fighter run is deadly, a Tie defender run is deadly. A Tie intercepter run is both.
