Extremely nice video! I've lived in RAK for four years and never knew this experience was just around the corner from me. It was great to learn more about traditional Emirati culture and see how truly difficult pearl diving is. Thanks!
@@ParisNorriss I teach at Ajman university ✌️🕊🕊Woow that’s awesome 🤩 so we can have you in one of our virtual class online to talk more about your cultural experiences right ? Please let me know .
@@ReemSabry1st Yes I would be more than happy to do that. Either virtual or in person. I’m actually planning some episodes in Ajman and recently filmed a very interesting one that included Ajman/UAQ about a famous ship that sank in 1961 and was the biggest catastrophe since the Titanic. I’ll send you a preview of the video. Our show is on Amazon Prime and OSN. It’s only our old videos I put on TH-cam so we have more.
Thanks Daniel. Yes I’m trying to grow my channel but it’s taking a long time. I thought it would be easy lol. Thanks for the kind words though. Have you tried freediving before?
@@ParisNorriss Yes many times my family used to live in the Bahamas and we used to go out all day long spear fishing in the ocean. By the end of the day Id be so exhausted Id have to drag myself onto shore lol. Using a rock to lower you up-and-down is a really smart way of conserving energy. Did that guy let you keep that pearl?
@@cashcade8850 Well there's only one way to overcome your fears and that's to face them. I highly recommend free diving. It's great fun but may take you a while if you have some fear. Can you swim?
Next time, let the rock do the work and just remain still and relaxed as the weight takes you down - if it is clear, go down head first, if it is murky, go down feet first. Good Job though, well impressed you got a pearl on your first dive, nice one!
🤔 1 :52 "Synthetic" pearls are generally a plastic bead coated in a pearlescent substance to imitate the natural iridescence of Nacre or mother of pearl. Cultured pearls are created when an irritant is introduced surgically through controlled conditions by a Mussel or Oyster farmer. These types of pearls are considered "genuine" or "real" pearls, natural pearls occur when an irritant naturally finds its way organicically into an Oyster or Mussel, generally the creature will eject/spit out these foreign items. Often, when the foreign body is trapped, the creature dies. If not, it begins to coat the irritant with Nacre, over time creating a Natural Pearl.😊👍BTW, Natural pearls are often very unattractive & "worthy of the bin" they are also rare.
i have a pearl i saw in talaba, in the Philippines, do you buy this
Rad! Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you enjoyed. Do you free dive also?
@@ParisNorriss No, just interested in pearl divers!

Really interesting and gorgeous visuals Guy! Great channel.
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you liked. Are you also based in the UAE?

I’m glad you liked the video. What was your favorite place to go to in RAK?
Lovely video, truly enjoyed it and learned new information. I will share it with my students in Emirates Studies class :)
I’m glad you liked it. I have a lot more cultural episodes coming out in our new season that may also be useful. Where do you teach?

They found antique pearls in old desert areas
16:53 is that a wild oyster? Or a farmed oyster?
That’s a wild oyster
@@ParisNorriss so you found a natural pearl!? Not cultured pearl!? A natural pearl that size is worth at least $20k dollars or more!
