- Tonight we do a 3 way blind with the latest 3 batches of the legendary Stagg JR from Buffalo Trace. We borrowed batch 14, dusted off our old batch 15, and pulled out a batch 16 we recently purchased. Which is your favorite batch of Stagg Jr?

So true lol! Whiskeytube can be a little out of touch sometimes, and also contribute to FOMO (not saying this video does that). But it's always good to get some notes. Best tip is try it at a bar, it's underwhelming very often and then you can move on to the reliable shelfies like a normal person haha
A few months ago I blinded Stagg Jr. batches 10, 12, 13, 14 & 15. Batch 14 came out on top, followed by 10, 12, 13, 15. I know for certain if I did the same lineup again the results would differ, really hard to drink 5 barrel proof bourbons and not blow out your palate 😝
I just picked up another #15 last weekend and it was under $100 in Fall River MA. I was floored because they go for $250 a bottle usually. Now I have two bottles. I like #15 but haven't tasted any other batches yet. I'm ok with that!🤑

Went back to watch this episode, because I just picked up a bottle of Batch 15 today 7/17/23. Have seen some reviews saying it is not as good as others. I also have batch 18 and B22 (19), which I love. Just excited to get another bottle of Stagg Jr. Will always be on the lookout for any batch of Stagg, just like I am for Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength. 🥃

I'm a firm believer that the best Stagg Jr is the one you're currently drinking. They're all so damn good!

I just got my very first bottle of Stagg today. It’s batch 15 and I never see them available so I purchased it. I may hold onto it until I can find another one and then maybe do a comparison at the same time. Cheers, and thanks for your videos. Great content!

Wow to have the time to be able to camp out in front of a store for 3h prior to opening. Wish I didn’t have a job yet also had plenty of money to burn on awesome whiskey.
David has a job just like I do but some jobs have schedule flexibility that allows us to hunt bourbon. It’s not entirely clear if this comment is meant to hate on people like us, but if it is, so be it. We’re going to keep doing what we do and keep having fun doing it.

Great review! Thanks. Batch 14 was the last batch I was able to get. My son scored a bottle of 15 and he and I agree that it's a bit of a disappointment compared to previous batches. My first batch to acquire was 8 and it blew me away and I've had every batch from that to 15. But I have to say that 9 has been the real standout to me. That said, I haven't had a Stagg Jr. that I haven't thought was better than just about everything else out there. Unfortunately, it's become impossible to find here in NoCal.
I have a few stag jrs on the shelf and in the bunker... cant bring myself to open them now that they are so rare... kind of goofy i guess...
Btw, i thought j bowman was mashbill 2. It tastes more like blantons to me, but i could be crazy.
I thought MB #2 as well; have heard JJ Bowman is an Elmer alternative
@@gregs7375 havent had elmer, but my bottle of blantons tastes identical. Pretty close to hancocks too.
@@enricojaun2880 From what I recall, Bowman redistills BT MB#2 twice on site and then ages it. A while back JJB SiB was 10 year but now it may be more 6-7 year. Most BT MB#2 products are 6-12 year, Blanton’s being the youngest usually. So yea, I believe that!
Other sites have it as #1 and others as #2. They do redistill it whichever it is so it's a bit different from either Blanton's or ER/ETL. To me it tastes more like 1, but in truth it's a guess

Thats correct, same happened to me. I had batch 13, batch 10, and batch 14 in the past and all were solid. Batch 10 was a bit sweeter and easy to drink, 13 and 14 being a bit spicier but had fuller n complex flavours . But this recent batch 15 did not impress me at all. It’s muted on nose and lacks those typical stagg profile of cherry n cola notes. Not as flavourful as other batches so this batch 15 is least favourite of mine.

Great video, David. I enjoyed a pour of 15 while watching, but this bottle has only been open a week or two. It will be interesting to see if I start to enjoy it less as it opens up just like your experience with your 15. I’ll probably leave my 16 unopened for now until we get closer to the next release.

I’m very curious whether you would rather pay more and not have to camp out… I know I would rather pay more and not have to camp out. It’s $300 here in California. I’m also not going to pay $300, my max would be $150-$200, too many other good bourbons out there for less money.

Stagg jr was everywhere around 2018. In 2019 I could still find it pretty easy. These days it's one of the most hunted
Yeah, I found one here and paid a BUNDLE! Never again for sure. It’s ridiculous

I’ve got 15 and 17 and just won 14 in a raffle today.
Drinking 3 batches of Stagg Jr will smack you in the mouth and clean the fuzz off your tongue (in a good way)
I’ve never been able to find one so I’ll just have to accept your opinion on them. Maybe someday?????
