Jackie Wilson really wowed the crowd on the old ABC-TV show "Shindig" from 1965 with the closing number "Baby Workout" and the dancers dancing along with him and having big fun

You really need to watch Jackie do "Night", "She's Alright", and "To Be Loved". Also his version of "Danny Boy", which is just amazing. There wasn't then and there isn't a voice now like this guy. Just unbelievable.
"Night" is under under rated.

Jackie's life story needs to be told and made into a movie. He was an amateur boxer, he was shot and almost killed by a jealous woman, where he lost a kidney. The woman was an ex-girlfriend of Sam Cooke who Jackie was close friends with. He was a notorious womanizer and had a woman in nearly every city. Here in NYC he had a handful easily. Little Richard had an enormous crush on him and pursued him. His act was stolen and copied by many including James Brown. To this day anyone who plays with a microphone or the kickstand is imitating him. Yes, here in the black community Elvis was known as the white Jackie Wilson. He had a heart attack onstage and was in a coma for 8 years. His money was stolen by his manager and his hospital bills were unpaid. Elvis and Dick Clarke stepped up to pay them. Elvis paid for his tombstone.
@@helgar791 yeah I'd read that where he collapsed on stage (heart attack) performing Lonely Teardrops and how he was in a coma, so crazy. Didn't know bout the rest... that was real of Dick Clarke and Elvis to do that. Appreciate the info, and I agree he needs a movie.

I was 8 in 1965 and In Canada I remember watching Shindig. And in particular Jackie. at the end of a couple of shows. Its 2023 now and I still get out of my chair and dance around whenever i watch 2 of those clips. Man those dancers have the moves

Yes he did finally receive his star and it's another clip of him performing baby workout in a white suit and killed it but of the shindig clip you need to watch the opening number he so cool
I wish Jackie and Sam Cooke got a chance to do a duo album that would've been amazing

When Elvis, James Brown, and Michael Jackson all point to you as their inspiration and great influence, then it's pretty ludicrous for the rest of the world not to sit-up and take notice. But here's the thing; there's someone else receiving even less notoriety than deserved is in this clip - the woman in the middle of the 3 girl back-up singers is Darleen Love, perhaps the greatest female vocalist of her time. The list of old 50/60s 'girl-group' songs that were (regardless of the name of the group) sung by Darleen Love is stunning (including 'He's a Rebel' & 'The Chapel Of Love'), often released as The Crystals, The Blossoms, and other group names. Watch for her in many clips from that era, singing behind everyone from James Brown to Frank Sinatra . . . but watch her up front where she should be, even here, at over 65 still sounding better than anyone - seriously Kristin, you need to watch this ~
