    I definitely like the term 'pip deck' - it's clear and simple to understand as being more abstract in its illustrative symbolism of the minor arcana... One could simply refer to RWS as a 'non-pip deck'' with its elaborate directive pictures of scenes and situations. Thank you for the flower and foliage exercise - it's brilliant and most helpful in training the mind to begin navigating the less concrete, more intuitive pathways the pip cards present!

      It's clear and simple to petiole who know what pip deck means and what a pip is. Not everybody does.

    It’s very surreal that the more we progress in life, the more we get expeirenced in reading tarot and all.. the more we go back to the past / foundations on things. I have been purchasing such deck that are more on the pips looking tarot deck. Recently, I finally purchased a Tarot Marseille style deck.. it made me realized the beauty and wonder of its detail and I asked myself... why I didn’t noticed this in the past when I started one.. like more than a decade ago lol.

    Hello. I am from Brazil and here There isn'ta lot of different books about Marseille Tarot, but there is a writer that has made an excellent key book about it. He speciefied the symbolism of Marseille and says that, because of beeing the oldest deck in the world, is the real and true deck that exists. All the orthers decks are based on this symbolism.
    Nei naiff is his name. He has written a trilogy that really makes all clear about tarot.
    Thans for the video and hello from Brazil.

    Came across your series last night and watched this episode this morning. I like that you are providing a foundation in what Marseilles is in an accessible fashion that is not overly simplistic. The suggestion to purchase a bouquet and watch it’s appearance as itdegenerates hits home to what the Marseilles tradition requires: observation! You can get a strong sense of timing and activity in th epics if you will carefully observe. Looking forward to watching your next video.🙂

    Allen, here. Im familiar w the TdM system but am getting back into it due to the Tattoo Tarot: Ink & Intuition deck (but now I see I'm going to have to get a nice new Green Box Marseille Tarot deck, this year). I look forward to learning from and with you.

      Thanks for watching! Glad you're finding it helpful :)
      I love the Ink & Intuition deck, not exactly what I'd consider a TdM, but most of the techniques still apply. It's kind of its own thing - and that's what I like about it! Look through and notice all the things that are carried through, it's quite well done, and I love the Courts in that deck too!

    For the different colors they used stencils (pochoirs)or hand painting. It is very long to carve 78 cards in wood. Remember it is a mirror image and very small images too. Impossible to carve exactly the same. I am sure they take great care of their blocks.

      I think that’s the Mary Packard, based on the Madenie. The Packard decks are nice (there’s also a Visconti-Sforza) but they are quite big - which makes them great for teaching & videos, but perhaps not as practical for readings.
      There’s another version of the Madenie by Yves Renaud, which is a more “normal” size, but visually I prefer the Packard even though the Renaud is probably more accurate 😆

      Thanks! Glad you're enjoying :)
      Any of the Marseille decks I used in this video are great for you, I like the Madienie or the Robledo for a more traditional style pip deck, but there are also good versions of the Burdel that are fun. My go-to Marseille currently is the Robledo because it is "new" in the sense that it is a new interpretation, fresh and clean, but it feels "old" because the backgrounds are an aged/tan color (not stark white) and it is faithful to traditional decks.
      That said, I have not looked at what is currently available in Marseille-land for the past 2 years or so, so there may be some newer offerings that may suit your needs as well.

    Have you noticed stuff which most do not, such as the wing under the Empress's backside, how the three streams become two in Temperance, the long spoon of the Fool which cuts off his head from whats happening below, why the hat with the left-hand acolyte in the Pope card?, The Thumb in the belt symbolism in two cards of the Major arcana, the rope not tied round the Hanged Man's ankle & why six knots? (in the visconti version one of them is split), Death cutting off his own foot, The ill fitting crown, tongues of flame & the phallic shaped windows of the Tower, the tail of one dog raised whilst the other is down in the Moon, with its 19 drops & 30 rays, & one I still haven't figured out yet, why are there "leaves" on the two bottom animals of the tetramoph in the World card?

      I know. I liked it too but was hard for people to remember and pronounce. Simple and short is good this year for me :) I invented Tafalarota after watching Tarology! It came from fala tarota which in Polaish means the wave of tarot :) Then I mingled with it and loved the sound of it :) My baby needed to die today hahaha but I will give Tarot Map a bit more life, so soon hope to feel happy about it as I did about the other one :)

      It's the Mary Packard TdM, which is a re-creation of the Pierre Madenie TdM. I really like the Packard version, except that the cards are HUGE. Yves Reynaud has a Madenie also, but among the Yves Reynaud replicas, I prefer the Chosson.

    Would love if you did a video talking more about Visconti Sforza and what you can use from Marseille Tarot interpretation and what you cannot use and specific techniques with Visconti

    • @MirrorsofConsciousness
      @MirrorsofConsciousness  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The number and element/suit combinations seem to work well with the Sforza, but I really also like the visual method, particularly in reference to the flowers
      I don't work with the Sforza as much, but I do find it provides some really interesting eye rhymes that are not the same as with the TdM. The technique is pretty much the same, just the actual visuals differ :)

  • @Naked_Ryan
    @Naked_Ryan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if a deck had all the other elements of a Marseille deck (numberless Fool, Justice is 8, Strength is 11, coloration, etc.) but not the same exact patterns in the pips, it wouldn't be a Marseille deck?

    • @MirrorsofConsciousness
      @MirrorsofConsciousness  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct. In the modern English-speaking world where the RWS system is considered "standard" there is this false division where people assume anything that is not RWS is TdM. Not so! there are many regional tarots in Europe that well pre-date RWS, and some that pre-date TdM, too, but follow that European numbering.
      Fool as 0, numbered Death, Strength as 8, and Justice as 11 is the anomaly in the history of tarot, not the other way around. But because the North American and British market is flooded with RWS variants, it skews our view. It's just popular, that's all.
      TdM is only ONE of many styles that continue the traditional European numbering. There are also decks that have alternate numberings, but they are fewer.

  • @martin36369
    @martin36369 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are people in the minor arcana, just not in most pip cards, the court cards are part of the minor arcana

    • @MirrorsofConsciousness
      @MirrorsofConsciousness  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, I personally divide the deck into 3 sections though: the Ace-10 pips, the Courts, and the Majors. You are correct; the Courts and Pips are both part of the Minor Arcana, but I often think of the Courts as being separate which is why I will often refer to the pips as minors and vice versa.

    You seem confused, there are no tarot decks that are pip decks, as the Tarot pack includes the Major arcana, The Fool which can be included under that term, but is sometimes separate as it's a wild or sacrificial discard, & the minor arcana which is composed of the court cards (with people) & the numbered pip cards (which often do not), apart from especially the Sol Busca, Waite-Smith & others influenced mainly by these.Of course one can illustrate an abstract pictorially.
