In this video, I share how I made my own customized “junk planner”-one that meets my needs (without anything extra!) and reflects the style of vintage I love!

I know people say not to make videos long, but personally, I thoroughly enjoy watching "reality-based" videos like this as opposed to heavily edited videos. It's informative to hear your thought process as you make design decisions. I like seeing things happen even if in fastforward. And I enjoy studying all the goodies on your table, too. You are so inspiring and your work amazes me!!

OMG. I have that book (Baby Farm Animals, it's falling apart. It was one of my favs when I was a kid. Maybe I should use the pages in a project.
Aww, that is awesome!! I had the same one as a kid and it was one of my fave, too...still have it actually! I'm saving that one bc it's in great condition still, but if yours is falling apart, you could definitely use it in a project! The illustrations are so cute! Happy crafting!! 🤗💕💕💕

I have the same book! This is a great idea. Please keep expanding on this idea.
To make your tabs stick out more, could you fold paper and add to the left side of your dividers and punch new holes. It could extend your dividers and make your pages stronger. Love your work!

Thank you sharing your process. I’ve never seen a planner like this. I watched the whole thing. I can already see myself going down the rabbit hole on this! I watched this at 2x and it was fine for me. Sometimes when I am making videos and want to shorten them, but need to talk too, I turn up the speed to 110% or 125%. It is almost indiscernible to the casual viewer.💕

This is perfect timing ! I am a teacher and have wanted to make my own lesson plan book in a larger children's book for awhile now . I found a pregutted Richard Scary cover just last week at Goodwill bins. I am finishing up one other project and thats next on the list. First day if school is September 2. You will probably save me some trial and error !

Thank you thank you thank you. First I want to say I am with you on having the basic only what you need in a planner. I am a newbie that really wants to make some planners and journals for myself but I struggle with the process. I really enjoyed this whole video and that you didn’t just edit out the parts that wasn’t perfect. It really helps to see that. I do have one question though and that is was there a reason you went down three inches from the top for your first ring, or was it just a personal preference? Hi Glinda! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I only went down 3 inches as a personal preference! I think any spacing would work, but I find going 2 or 3 inches from the top and bottom (vs. more) gives the covers more stability! xoxo Amy :)

Just a beautiful book. It gives me something to do with my giant book covers. I always oogle over that quilt print and kite print paper every time you use it. May i ask is it from October Afternoon?

Fun idea! I am wondering where you get your double sided scrapbook papers from? The ones I see in Michael's and Hobby Lobby are really thick and not necessarily conducive for junk journaling. Also what is the brand of double sided tape you use? It must be pretty strong to hold fabric!
Thank you, Traci!! I buy them as single sheets from online scrapbook shops. I don't buy any paper in stores like Michaels, Joann, or Hobby Lobby. The brick and mortar stores don't carry the premium brands of paper (although Joanns started carrying some Crate Paper collections last year, so they may be the same quality. I'm not sure bc I buy everything online!). I buy the most paper from scrapbook.com because they have such a big selection.
The double sided tape I use is a brand I buy from Amazon called AJ's Sign World. Strange name, but I love the tape! I just added links to the products I listed in the description box if you want to check it out. It does holds fabric well! Of course, if you pull on it, it will come up, but as long as you don't do that, it will stay put! :D Thanks for watching, Traci!! xoxo Amy

Welllllllll.... I had to go on Ebay and find this book because I just love, love, love what you are doing with it, and the baby animals is the PERFECT book for to make for myself instead of for someone else. I have a question for you that has absolutely nothing to do with this video. I have decided to make a ring-bound journal from a Dr. Seuss, "Cat in the Hat" book. I personally have to keep all the pages to the book in tact and in order (just my preference) and if you have looked at this book, it is basically 3 colors. I want to bring in other color scrapbook papers as just 3 colors seems like it would be so boring, but I dunno. If you have a second to share what are your thoughts? Also, do you plan on anymore classes for your academy this year? Thanks Amy!!!! What would we do without you?

So for the Dr. Suess book...you could just incorporate the 3 colors amongst other colors that coordinate with them. Maybe you can find some patterned papers that have those 3 colors along with some others. I like to go to a website like scrapbook.com and have the book sitting right next to me and look through their patterned papers. It can take awhile bc they have so many, but I bet you will find some!! You could also just start with your favorite paper brands to narrow the search a bit and then branch out if you don't see any with those. That sounds like. a fun project!! Honestly, I have SO MUCH PAPER that I sat and went through a ton of it last night, and I ended up with red, different shades of blue, black and whites (as there is a lot of black and white in this book) and I decided on yellow as the other color because the red and blue in the book are bold and primary and I just think that the yellow went well. Felt so weird not to be pulling in any pinks or other colors that I usually go for. This one has been a challenge for sure. I loved your idea of going to scrapbook.com and looking through the papers that way. That is an AWESOME idea, and I will keep that in mind for things in the future. XOXOXOXOXOXO
