Hi all, sick film! What is he doing at 12:00-12:10? I am fairly new to climbing so please forgive my ignorance. From my side it looks like he's altering the rock (chiseling/scraping). Is this a thing? Not sure how I feel about it, but I'd like to be corrected/educated.
Definitely not chiseling. It's pretty common practice on high balls and test pieces to rappel/top rope and either rehearse some of the moves, clean and/or dry off the holds.
Brushing off the moss and dust. Also useful to work on some moves higher up. Altering the rock, aka chipping, is very criticised these days and only assholes still do it.
