Now we need a 4 year update! We planted a few feijoas on our property here in Oregon over the past couple years, and our first fruit is hanging on one of them right now! I keep checking it every couple days to see if its on the ground or shakes off. Can't wait to try it!
first heard of feijoa from your video, and now i am hooked on the idea of having my own trees. thanks for showing us all these great fruits and how you care for them. awesome work!
Nice to see growing feijoas growing over there! I am from Argentina, and I planted 3 feijoas 2 years ago not sure which variety it is (recently here we plant feijoas for consumption again, in the past during the colonial settlement of the Spanish it was in every house besides lack of variety of fruits specialy in autumn, but then with european Immigration was left) . Today walking around in the middle of reserved area I found 2 wild large feijoas trees when I pick up the fruits I realized the peel is quite thicker! Now I let them mature a bit more how the wild feijoas taste!
I LOVE Feijoa! Just today i was able enjoy my first couple of fruit from my Feijoa tree at my new property. The addiction is real! I cant wait for more to ripen ❤
Indeed, mine is 2 years on and still no fruit. Thinking it just is not getting enough sun, although it does get about 6 hours a day full sun, which I would've thought was enough. It looks very healthy otherwise, just no fruit.

Also 2 have been eaten by sheep and not many leaves, would you pull out and replace or will they come back Okay ? Any help or advise appreciated
My son gave me 3 feijoa small plants that have now established themselves in my garden. They look ok so far it’s been about 7 months and they are looking ok so far in the middle of winter 🤞
You must have some good pollinators. I didn’t get any fruit for four years and I had to hand cross pollinate between five varieties before I got fruit.
Too right mate... I also eat kiwi fruit skin and all. My mates think I'm mad. I'm putting in a couple soon and noted your comments on watering and wonder what your annual rainfall is. I live outback and we get 14 inches in a good year.
Do you recommand to prune feijoas from early on (first or second year) to stimulate full bushes to form together a wind shield or a hedge for privacy (but still let it grow freely/natural way)?

Thanks for the info, Do you think they go better in a group ? I ask this because I planted one tree and it has had no fruit for 2 years. It is bigger than yours but still no fruit
Mulch makes a big difference in the dry subtropics too. Whenever I talk to a kiwi and they find out I grow fruit trees the first thing they ask about is feijoas. Kiwis are crazy for them here.
I am in England and have a lovely bushy feijoa which has grown beautifully for about three years but has never flowered and fruited. It is perhaps too cold for this although it is in a sheltered place.
Thank you for your wonderful video's and the information! I still have one question. Did you try to propagate the feijoa? I bought one tree with the idea to make more myself. Do cuttings work well?
I bought some seeds from Florida and am growing some inside. It's too cold in Canada to grow them. The tree is two years old and no signs of fruit yet :( I do put it outside in May when its warm enough and hopefully I get fruit soon. I used to live in Takapuna many years ago and trying to slowly bring more New Zealand here. I've also got a loquat tree growing inside. Its four feet tall. Any tips for growing feijoas inside for colder climates?
Hey, sounds good! Since they’re grown from seed they can take longer to flower and fruit than grafted or cutting grown trees. Some say around 5-6 years to fruit from seed. I would just keep your trees healthy and protected in winter like you’re doing and make sure the pot is big enough and they’re well fed and they will hopefully do well :)
@@TheKiwiGrower Thanks a lot for the info. Sounds like I have three more years to wait, but I'm so excited to taste the again. Haven't tried them since I left NZ. It grows like crazy each year, After two years its five feet tall. Stop growing from November to January, then takes off in January.

Ga'day there . I have a Feijoa tree for at least 28 years and it fruit every year , but there are years when it fruits they are really small .The tree is 9' tall and about 7' wide it gets full sun from 9 o'clock on wards . I would like to know how i can get the tree to produce bigger fruit like what you get ?
Hi Tony, is it only some years that the fruit are small and other years that they’re bigger? If they’re always small it could be the variety. But if only some years the fruit are much smaller you could try giving the tree a good feed during spring and summer and keep the watering up well through that time so it has enough moisture to grow bigger fruit. If it crops really heavy that could also potentially mean the fruit you get are smaller, so you could look at thinning out some of the fruit..? Hope that helps :)
My tree is fruiting at this moment and has a lot on her ... I might just thin the fruit off her or what i'll do is next year i'll thin it out and see what happens.. Thanks for the info there and enjoyed your video.. Cheers @@TheKiwiGrower
I got unnamed variety (from seeding) in a 1 gallon bucket (probably 1 year old) last fall, and it grew pretty good over summer, of course no flowers or fruit yet. and today got another small tree of Takaka variety for 40usd! bigger ones are going for 90, 120 and 230$ I think I’ll get some more of the smaller ones and plant them in pairs unnamed-named variety so they help each other grow. hopefully they’ll catch up in a year or two to those big ones they sell.
Are you planning to prune them? I have one tree and planning to purchase another to help with pollination. This tree here has been with me for 2 years, purchased at a nursery, but has not produced. Thanks for the awesome tips.

Funny. The comment of planting on the northern side for full sun slapped me across the face that you are on the southern hemisphere. So used to the advice to plant on the south side for full sun. :)
I wonder if the other trees ($10) are marcotted cuttings from an existing tree with fruits why they fruited straightaway. I see why mine hasn't been fruited yet. It needs another tree to help with the pollination. I'm off to the market to get myself another tree :)

and today got another small tree of Takaka variety for 40usd! bigger ones are going for 90, 120 and 230$
I think I’ll get some more of the smaller ones and plant them in pairs unnamed-named variety so they help each other grow. hopefully they’ll catch up in a year or two to those big ones they sell.
Hello, my soil is clay loam, do you think feijoas would grow well in this environment? I thank you very much for your help
Very informative video. Thank you
No worries! :)
You got fruit after one year? I planted mine 8 months ago here in Jamaica. Hope to get fruit next year.
Can you grow these trees in a big pot ?just so I can take them with me when I move
Today first time to test this fruit and its very yammmmmmmm, the test like jawafa/deepheat.
What hardiness zone do you live in? And could you tell me the name of the nursery where you got pineapple guava, please. I wonder if they sell online.
Are you planning to prune them?
I have one tree and planning to purchase another to help with pollination. This tree here has been with me for 2 years, purchased at a nursery, but has not produced. Thanks for the awesome tips.
Just found your channel and I look forward to watching more of your garden xx Cathi xx
Thanks Cathi :)
Hi thanks for your great video! We have two feijoa trees, they next each other, over 10 years old, have lots of sun, but no fruit😅. Any idea why? Thanks
did they ever set flowers?
hey man what about pollination, is this variety self pollinate?
Is grass clippings good to use as mulch?
Apologies if this is common knowledge. I'm a newbie at pruning and growing fruit trees.
I always learn a lot from your videos. Thank you. Jef
Thanks Jef!
I just got my feijoa tree in the mail. I'm going to take some cuttings and see if they'll survive in zone 6 with protection.
Awesome! Fingers crossed it goes well :)
Hi where is zone 6? I'm trying to grow in the UK. So far the plants have only lived in my conservatory and are still quite small.
I live in Ireland and regularly get flowers but the fruit never developed, perhaps it will in a polytunnel.
@@karenmason1980 I live in Hampshire and have a few trees in my back garden, you shouldn't have any issues with the cold winters here. How many trees were you hoping to grow?
@@BuenavistaNZ I have 7 plants from seed but they are still small. Think they come from an Argentinian fruit that I purchased from a few fruit I bought from a green grocer in Chiswick, was pretty small but I am doing it as a bit of fun.
There is variety the fruit is round skin is more tough but very sweet, do you know the name of that variety? Thank you !
Yay my favourite tree!! How good after 1 year! Mine took a lot longer.
Thanks Holly! Defs one of my tops favourites too :)
Funny. The comment of planting on the northern side for full sun slapped me across the face that you are on the southern hemisphere. So used to the advice to plant on the south side for full sun. :)
Can I grow them next to citrus and quince trees
We had them growing close to all kinds of different fruit trees.
They're bulletproof when it comes to insects.
I wonder if the other trees ($10) are marcotted cuttings from an existing tree with fruits why they fruited straightaway. I see why mine hasn't been fruited yet. It needs another tree to help with the pollination. I'm off to the market to get myself another tree :)
Great video I have 6 trees one being a bambino. Dens choice is my favorite
Your trees look great. Please advise the varieties of all of your feijoa trees. Thanks.
I'm a new subscriber, I appreciate your videos on planting from seed. Keep em coming👍 Thank you from the Bay of Plenty🌺
What is the problem with my feijoa leaves having a reddish mottled look on the surface? The trees have recently developed the mottling.
Sounds like bacteria or fungus. A liquid copper treatment should help with either
never heard of it. it looks similar to gauva. but fruit look different from inside. the soil look for the plant appears very good. l have hard tropic baking clay for gauva. l have woodworm eating inner trunk root..do u have any non pesticide solution
