I have the 16mm film of this. I was one of the F-8 engineering support staff at NARF Norfolk in 1975-77, and the FASOTRAGRULANT (Fleet Audiovisual Training Unit Atlantic) was clearing out their F-8 materials as the type was in its twilight years, so I got this and a couple of other similar films. They've been untouched in their cans for 45 years. With this video I can see what's on one of them, at least!

Any chance you would allow someone to digitaly restore and remaster the original 16mm film?

The last gunfighter. A truly spectacular mig hunter in its day. Love the F8

Cool video. I was a USMC Plane Captain for the F-8K in 1973-75.

Thank you for the outstanding series ,Aircraft Familiarization, that you have posted. The Skyray was most enlightening; pitch over vertical at 30k+ft. and you'll hit 1.1 Mach ,but you need 20,000 ft. to recover. I remember airshows when, after a fly past, you could grab a hot dog before the featured aircraft would come around again.

And those radar seekers/guidance were crap even on a good day. Even if you got a lock they wouldn't track most of the time
Most of the 9C's got converted to SideArm anti radar missiles

How did gunsight work? Depression only with 1800 feet sweet spot? Radar gunsight with auto lead? Lead Computing Optical Sight but no HUD, pipper only? Backup 1500 feet fixed iron sight?

It was kick-ass in its day. Could wax an F-4s butt any day of the week.
