In this tutorial I will show you how to colour grade your footage using Final Cut Pro X. I will walk you through a Primary Grade (in which you match the luminance and contrast of various clips while correcting any colour issues), a Secondary Grade (where you use windows and selective colour corrections to accentuate portions of the frame), and then Mastering your footage (creating an overall look for your film). I will also show you how to create your own LUTs (Look Up Table) using Photoshop adjustment layers. I hope all this information helps you in honing your own films and getting the look you want.

This is by far the BEST color grading tutorial I've seen. I was overwhelmed by the idea of color grading, the use of color grading tools within FCPX, and LUTs...the thought of creating my own LUT was inconceivable. Now I can't wait to tie my material together. Thanks so much for putting this tutorial together. Incredible.

After getting really tired of "Just buy and apply my LUTs" videos I really found this incredibly refreshing. A lot of videos just say how to do something but I appreciated that you explained why to do it. Fantastic.

@Sean Tucker - This is seriously one of the best videos of this nature on TH-cam. Taking what are arguably really complex ideas and delivering them simply at a pace that it makes it easy to follow. Loved the "Create Your Own LUT" section as I think that is something that really can signal your own style, rather than the free or off the shelf solutions.
    Thanks very much for sharing!

Glad I found your tutorial. Well done! Just want to let FCPX users know that the program does now have a built-in LUT loader. Click on the “i” in the inspector window of your video clip, click on Extended metadata views, where you’ll find a field that says Camera LUT, and choose Add Custom Camera LUT. Cheers!

Thanks for this, Sean. It's been frustrating trying to find someone who has a deeper understanding of color grading and a rational workflow to accompany it - and isn't just trying to sell their LUTs.
You break it down very simply and make it much less of a daunting process. Looking forward to more.

I tried the color board technique (I had been correcting with curves) and to my amazement found a TON of color hiding in my shots.
