    • @TheJakeChandler
      @TheJakeChandler 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Olivia Wilde. "Third Person" is the movie you're thinking of. I don't think it was because in *that* scene they're both standing in the doorway and she's in the hallway of the hotel(?), not coming out of the bathroom, and it's a robe, not a towel. Also he was 60 or maybe 61 when that was filmed. But who knows, she could be changing the details or maybe that's how the scene was written when she auditioned.

    If you have a problem with all of the stuff you a redescribing about how women are expected to be flawless blame yourselves women. Its the fashion industry which is controlled largely by women and gay men who have kept that sort of thing alive since the late 80's. The flawless, fake boob, super skinny thing. In real life men arent like that, we have tastes that are far different than what are forced on women by the fashion industry

    She's talking about - I'm guessing - Up in the Air with Clooney. I remember the scene where Vera Farmiga , a GREAT actress, dropped the towel coming out of the bathroom. She is 12 years younger than Andie and George. That said, I love how she said, "I want to play him, not her. I want to be in the bed and the man comes out of the bathroom and drops the towel." Right on.

  • @Angels-3xist

    Definitions of perfection are subjective and mailable. She’s right about those cliches being boring. They’ve always been. The only times they seem authentic are when they’re used ironically. I always thought it was contradictory in movies that were otherwise interesting and novel and are trying to make you think outside the box to have paint by numbers love scenes. In all creative fields it ends up feeling like something people are forced to do by people who don’t at all understand the work and are trying to work on some sort of base fantasy of male viewers they think are equally out of shape. Honestly what she’s talking about can end up feeling kind of grotesque. Depictions of love should make sense and feel authentic to whatever you’re trying to represent otherwise it just feels wrong and dissonant. Depict something people haven’t seen before or that show the broader range of love. Depict something that speaks to a larger story and doesn’t just seem like a forced fantasy.

    And she has likely enough draw power and influence to make a movie if she wanted. She could direct that "flip story" script if she really wants. Women would sure go see it, yes. Especially if she pushes some boundaries in it. Because 50 shades trilogy was utter dogshit, acted, directed, produced, just dogshit. Someone with actual movie sensibilities would do immeasurably better if it advertised right and done right.

    Some of the comments here are disturbing. Acting like Andie is complaining and that’s just nature taking it’s course, etc. I feel like in any job, if you put forth time and effort, and then at 40, they’re like, “sorry, you’re career is over… we’re phasing you out.” That would be heartbreaking to anyone. Hollywood is extremely superficial, but half the audience is female. We know when something doesn’t ring true.

    I find it interesting that the only ones complaining about it are the ones not getting picked. She had no problem using her attractive features when they were in demand. It probably boosted her ego then and now she misses it. Her wanting to shift the paradigm is so not new…ugly men with no positional power were getting rejected by her as she chose men who were attractive, influential, and other cliche truths.

They just wanted to get their hands or eyes on those humans they considered unobtainable.

    I think it's problematic to mix art and business. You can hold true to the art in a low budget, low risk environment; trying to put the best art out there. When you have a "hot director" with a "63 year old, gorgeous, famous" actor, that sounds like a higher budget film trying to create "art" that is going to sell and recoup cost. So whatever the director can add to a film to attract a wide range of eyeballs (least common denominator), then that's what they will do. It's interesting, at one time she was cast for her acting and her beauty (she was a model, right?). I wonder if she turned down roles early in her career because she was being cast as the beauty?

    Portrayal of genders (for attraction) is instinctual, not taught. If society started sexualizing old women, it would have to be forced. It wouldn't be natural, because our species doesn't' associate sex or sexiness with the elderly. And for natural reasons. Sexual instinct comes from the biological desire to attract a mate and procreate. 60 year olds aren't doing that. We don't want the 55 year old woman dropping the towel, because it's not our natural preference. Our natural preference is the woman of age who can marry and start a family, not the woman who's kids left the nest 15 years ago, and who's anatomy no longer functions correctly.
    Women may feel differently, because instinctually women aren't looking for younger men. They're looking for strong, protective, territorial providers, and males between the ages of 18 and 25 typically don't fit that mold. The average age difference in married couples is 5 years. Male older than female. That's nature, not teaching. It's perfectly fine with not wanting to play those kinds of rolls, but that acting "preference" shouldn't be confused with a false new-age feminist belief that there's no such thing as instinct, and that everything can be changed about people, if only we taught it.
    Andie has been married twice. Both husbands were older than her. Now she's 62 and unmarried, and that may play a roll in her thinking. Because she knows there a very slim chance to find another man to marry, and so she's a little resentful. Just my opinion on that last part, but she's 62, twice divorced, and giving opinions in hindsight. Believing she wouldn't get that towel dropping role, sure didn't stop her from auditioning for it. She obviously wanted it, but may have realized at that point that she wasn't wanted for her "sex appeal" anymore, so it's much easier to say "I didn't want that roll". Sure she did.

Its bullshit, I know a ton of so called men that would shit themselves if a rabid rabbit came charging towards them. Come on hollywood, lets cut the Weinstein shit, we've had enough.

    Watching these videos has revealed two things in greater detail: 1) Actors, having been successful enough to be interviewable, have no end to their complaints no matter how good life is... which is amazing because 2) Actors either are insecure or feign it really well for humble appearances.

  • @tuomoluukkanen7265
    @tuomoluukkanen7265 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think she absolutely a point, that aging women are written in a clichéd way, and nobody wants that. HOWEVER I don't think we're taught 'sexy' in our culture to the extent that she's implying. It's more in our evolutionary DNA. Can Andie McDowell have children any more at 62? No she can't. Can Tom Hanks have children at 64? Yes he can.
    Not saying aging women cannot be sexy, but the biological aspect definitely plays a part in what our 'culture' (read: biology) percieves as sexy.

    • @anz10
      @anz10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Who wants to have children with a 63 year old though? Most women do not crave having sex with let alone children with a 63 year old. No women of childbearing years wants an aging man as a dad unless they are a gold digger or inexplicably in love which is very rare. The guy is biologically unfit for children too because evolution wise he should already be dead were it not for modern medicine. Also even if he can have children he will not have energy to run around and bring them up and may die before he can bring up the child. Also unless he is rich it will hard for the 63 year old to bring up the kid with material needs covered. In evolutionary terms the dad would prob be eaten by lions or get ill before he can bring up his own children so biologically unattractive to a woman of childbearing years. I certainly wouldn't want a child with a 63 year old. Also mens sperm deteriorates with time making it very hard to have a kid at that age, men also have a biological clock to a certain extent.

I get people touching my gut and making noises in public. And god forbid I say it's unpleasant then my masculinity is under attack. She is talking about Hollywood were lots of women are cast, who are much younger than their male co stars. Men can be older looking, that is seen as normal, where as women have to look a certain way. Lots of older actress lose parts to younger ones. Its a real thing in Hollywood, she is not speaking about the non acting world, but how there are super unrealistic standards of beauty placed on actresses.
