    Thank you so much! Very clear and helpful. I'm starting driving lessons this week, and bought a donkey to train. She is going to be delivered at the end of April. I've trained horses also, but nothing to drive. I was a rider and cannot do so anymore, so this is the next phase for me. Again thanks!

    Best video of how to put on a harness!! I’ve been looking for about 5 months on how to do this! Thank you so much! All the others are European and I can’t understand them sometimes with the heavy accents.

    Wonderful job young lady. I have a cart on my truck now that I drove 300 miles to get so my grandchildren can have the experience of training horses and donkeys with grandpa. What's better than enjoying good times on your home and doing things right. Congratulations.

    Great video, you're very patient. Can I give you one tip? We never just walk onto another road. We always teach the (in our case) ponies to stop at every crossing so they don't just cross over when something happens. Also I'd use a long whip for signs and not the lines to 'push' him forward. You don't have to whip him with it, just use it for signals 'go faster, go left, go right' those kind of things. But great and clear video.

    I had a brilliant idea today! I have a large dog named Magnus, and after watching this video, I wanted to hitch him up to my wagon and have him pull it around. I then realized that was a stupid idea, so I've decided to build him a harness and cart from scratch using this video as a reference! It's gonna be a tough ride, but I'll post it on my blog when I'm done!

    • @BeckysHomestead
      @BeckysHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First thing is to always, always geld the donkey if it is a boy. Next halter train it. Next, teach it to stand tied. Then get it used to being groomed. Go slow, donkeys take a long time to trust you to do things to them. When animals trust you they let you do anything, that trust takes time to build. Next I teach them to pick up all four feet. Be careful with the back. At this point you should be able to brush and touch all four legs. Work on all of this until he does it perfect. If you have done it right he shouldn't kick at this point.☀️❤️☀️

    One more thing about training a donkey, mule or horse. Watching your videos on training to lead... you should NEVER wrap the lead around your hand or put your hand or arm through a loop. It's a very good way to lose said appendage if the critter desides it really isn't in the mood to go where you want to go.

  • @Linda-hs1lk
    @Linda-hs1lk 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Again, so many things are wrong here. She started wrong with the brest collar, you have to turn it around first. Then the crouper. You ALWAYS undo the buckle of the crouper, don't slide it. Leave the saddle in place. Also NEVER use the last hole. If you need to, the harness is too small. When driving you should always have one or two holes extra in case the leather rips for what ever reason. Also the blinkers should be a little lower. The eyes shouldn´t be in the middle. It´s 1/3 and 2/3. She is patient, I give her that.

      Yes she has the right attitude and while she says she has trained others, she needs some "refresher" from a true long time equine driver on several points.
      Please hear us down here, don't be offended, you've learned so much and do so much - you are great.
      But just like you might correct someone's soap making technique - you can "up" the quality of your driving.
      He's a good boy, and willing, you are concerned and patient but it could be so much better for him and future animals which trickles back to better for you.
