La maison dans laquelle vécut George Sand, en Centre-Val de Loire au coeur du Berry, témoigne de la vie exceptionnelle de cette femme du XIXème siècle. Cette maison dans laquelle elle écrivit la majeure partie de son oeuvre et reçut ses amis, Balzac, Chopin, Flaubert ou Liszt, conserve encore aujourd’hui le mobilier et les objets de l’écrivain. Le jardin qui entoure la maison , témoigne également de la riche personnalité de George Sand et de son attachement à la nature.
C’est un beau jardin d’écrivain. George Sand s'est investie pleinement dans chaque atmosphère. Lieu subtil et original, il étale comme autant de chapitres ses jardins, verger, parterres fleuris, roseraie, potager et bois au gré d’un parc historique de 6 hectares. Au cœur de la Vallée Noire, cette oasis témoigne de l’attachement d’une femme à son terroir, à l’image de ces deux grands cèdres plantés à la naissance de ses enfants, Maurice et Solange. 5 arbres sont labellisés Arbres Remarquables de France : les deux cèdres derrière le château, que George Sand avait plantés pour ses 2 enfants, ainsi qu'un ginko biloba, un sophora et un if.
Attention, cette maison est vivante ! Elle respire, transpire l'intimité d'une femme qui a inspiré et charmé ses contemporains : il semble que les doigts de Chopin courent encore sur le piano dont les notes romantiques s'évaporent dans l'air parfumé des jardins. C'est une escapade chargée d'émotion et de belles lettres sur la route des amoureux, une escale hors du temps, sur les traces des traditions populaires que l’auteure a su saisir avec tant de justesse et de tendresse.
"Cette terre de Nohant où j'ai été élevée, où j'ai passé toute ma vie..." - Histoire de ma vie. Entre George Sand et sa demeure, c'est une histoire d'amour faite d'une succession d'arrachements et de retrouvailles. Elle y reçoit ses amis, les fidèles Berrichons, et les Parisiens : Liszt, Balzac, Chopin, Delacroix, Flaubert... C'est dans cette maison datant du XVIIIe siècle qu'elle écrit la majeure partie de son oeuvre : La Petite Fadette, La Mare au diable, Les Beaux Messieurs de Bois Doré, François le Champi.
