A high gravety world mixt with food shortage and starvation would generate a mutch smaler but muscular human as long as he gets enough food to sustain the musclegroth. Same as a low gravety World would generate a slender and longer build
The harsh conditions should trigger intellectual development way more than the physical one plus the lack of easily accessible food would be quite contrary to increasing their size anyway. The Inuits, Eskimo etc are the smallest physically races in existence nowadays for sure.
I think it's the gravity more than anything for the size, but notice that's it's not stupidity in the intellect but more like a hyper focus on survival and threat, with things not related to those immediate dangers being atrophied
If Space Marines are a speed jump in human evolution then the Ogryns are the natural evolution on that path. And already are kind of superior to Space Marines.

It didn't start off as a chaos rebellion, it was started by the cardinal so as far the ogryns were concerned they were fighting the enemies of the voice of the Emperor, didn't become chaosy until the chaos space marines got involved and at the time they thought they were the Emperors marines.

It didn't start off as a chaos rebellion, it was started by the cardinal so as far the ogryns were concerned they were fighting the enemies of the voice of the Emperor, didn't become chaosy until the chaos space marines got involved and at the time they thought they were the Emperors marines.
