- Everybody was asking for a tutorial on live looping so i finally found the time to do it. I hope you guys like it and get good use out of it. Happy music making :)
Edit: I made some modifications to the subtitles, so guys in other countries than english speaking ones can use the translate tool in youtube and understand better what i am saying. Cheers!

nice simplified explanation. Important to watch both keyboard and where you put yuor mouse cursor in ableton to get it right though. Hard to watch both at same time.

Отличный обзор! Мне, новичку в DAW, очень нравится, много полезной информации по работе с DAW! Интерфейс отличается от FL S и Logic pro, в которых я пробовал писать музыку. Сейчас в поисках видеомонитора, размера экранов ноутбуков не хватает ... Пока не определюсь, хотя пересмотрел много обзоров. Ноутбук MB air M1 (16/256) с Logic pro x на MacOS 13.3. Как вариант под Windows 10 есть ноутбук Acer Swift 3 c установленными несколькими DAW, в том числе Ableton. Оборудование для домашней студии почти собрал, осталось определиться с видеомонитором.

Hey thanks. For some reason I have a delay (like half a second) when I save the track so it's a bit hard to make a perfect loop. Maybe some settings?

One more question. Sometimes my knobs are stuck in the main Ableton window and not functional even for native Analog lab. Maybe someone is experiencing the same issue? 😔

Appreciate the video, a great resource for someone who is already starting with Arturia like me. I have one question - for some reason I need to keep pad pressed and it is not starting recording. MIDI Mappings are same as on your video. It is because I did not change to 16 note quantanzation (2:30)? If so, can you tell me how can I do that?
Check out the answer i gave to Raul Angulo here in the comment section. I think that will solve your problem. I am not on my computer right now but you can check record quantization in one of the drop down menus on the right upper corner. Hope this helps. Cheers!

I don’t like drumming on pads. The keys on the minilab are way more responsive so i never took the time to learn.
Can you please let me know if the same will work for Minilab 3 as well. I am trying live looping and it’s not working
There are some different things on the Minilab 3. Especially on the part where you arm the tracks.

Hey thanks for the vid...but it would be good to know what you are doing...you use the remote script, NOT midi mapping, you DONT set buttons to arm tracks...you add the options file to auto arm.
What script? What i showed here in this video are many of the things i use in my live covers. I don’t use any scripts. It’s kind of a compliment if you would think so …
Also, if you don’t belive me, try watching the cover videos in slow motion and you will see when i arm my tracks.
@@Marius_Tarceatu i didnt mean to be ruda...i just watched a number of various videos...tracks should auto arm which is also not mentioned by many others. Midi mapping is the long way around...remote script manages ableton control globally...it will save you others a lot of time and pain :-) eg hold shift + pad 8

Great video man! Only doubt I have is to stop takes separetly, when I press the pad again it will just repeat the take from the beginning
You have to have the clips launch in toggle mode which lets you switch on or off the clips with the same play button. I don’t really remember the exact settings, but you can check the clip settings, when you select it, under launch settings.
Hi! Great video, I learned a lot. However, if I want to export my loop from ableton, the wav file I get corresponds to the final project (all tracks playing at the same time). However, I'd like to export the audio so that you can hear the instruments recorded one by one in a progressive way (like the loop covers you see on TH-cam). Does anyone know how to do this with Ableton? Thank you in advance!
You can record in arrangement view while you are playing using shift+record button. Then you can bounce to audio.

Pretty much every example I see of the Arturia Minilab mk2 is based on it being paired with Ableton. Are you able to use the approach you described here with other DAWs, such as Tracktion Waveform?
Well, I can’t speak for other daws as i don’t use them extensively. What i can say is, every Minilab comes with a free version of Ableton that has limitations, but u can use for live looping.
Also, midi mapping should work in any daw, the lauching clips part and looping them should be a bigger problem.
how to delete recorded instrument and record it again if u make mistake?
You just select the clip that you recorded and press delete.

When I want to start recording with the pad it gives me a note and not the start of recording why ?
Have you tried using the Shift+Pad 8 to switch to the ableton specific set of pads? The pads by default are notes on the scale. If there isn't anything you can do, try and change some things in the minilab setup program:midi control center.
I solved it with just setting up another midi connection with the pad and the record button

Just press Shift+Pad 8 on the Minilab, while in Ableton Live. It’s the special preset made by Arturia.
One problem you skipped a lot of what i have trouble with i tried arming my pads but it wouldnt arm and idk how you added the instruments but it aint working for me
Check out the midi mapping that is in the tutorial for arming. Also, you just drag the instruments to the clips to load them.

@@Marius_Tarceatu когда в режиме сессии с миди клавиатуры запускаю запись пэдом, то в начале идёт промежуток, потом пишет ноты, останавливаю запись, оно продолжает писать пустоту, и получается "луп" с огромной паузой между повторами, а у Вас в ролике ноты пишутся с начала сетки, и когда повторяется, то получается непрерывно.
Похоже, у вас не очень хорошо настроены настройки, чтобы Ableton записывала то, что вы играете. Попробуйте посмотреть во вкладке миди в настройках

Set clip launch to 1 bar in the top right corner of Ableton. It’s set as this by default. You can change latency in the soundcard options, or options in Ableton. I usually go for 128 samples for good latency.
"Let's record some music" is followed by launching a clip which records the music. However, you did not state what you pressed to launch the clip. Maybe RECORD?
You can actually see on the minilab picture in picture that i press the first pad to start recording.
how does your recordings start on the first note? As soon as I press a pad it start recording so I end up with a delay

At the metronome settings in ableton, top left on the main screen, set your count in to whatever you are comfortable with
Is it possible to live loop along with an audio track? I would like to enhance my piano music? Thanks
It should be possible, just put your track on one of the ableton clips. Also make sure the track has the same bpm as the one set in ableton! If you just want to play piano alongside a backing track, just switch to arrangement view and drop the track there. Set the bar up top to the length of the track and enable the repeat button.
Just read your comment again and i understood better what you are trying to say. If you want to live loop with your piano playing, just make sure you play your piano by the metronome in ableton. You can actually see in some of my videos making that very thing. Cheers!

Hey there! I didn’t try the novation launchkey, so i can’t say for sure. All i know is that the Minilab has decent keys, and that is important to me.

@Wycliff Studios Yeah, that was one of the reasons i bought it. Still, the launchkey should have the same functionality within Ableton if you want to make some music :)

No presionas el botón shift, presionas el botón pad1-8/9-16. Los pads 1-8 se usan para iniciar clips y los 9-16 para armar pistas. ¡Espero que esto ayude!

I still dont get how you arm your tracks just before live looping. I did all you did by 3.07 in the video and then, right after you say 'let's make some music', you make some and my minilab not. I cant get this armed tracks/pads - no live looping for me.
Do you have the minilab mk2 or the 3?
If you do have the mk2, make sure you have set up your pads to arm the tracks in with the midi function of ableton!

@@petrutapacuraru-huizenga3250 It should be set from the get go if you pushed Shift+Pad 8 to get to the factory built preset for Ableton. Also remember that i need to press the button on the Minilab to get to the 9-16 pads, press them to arm track, then come back to 1-8 pads so i can press the record button. Also, you might want to check your Ableton preferences>record warp launch>Launch and select default launch mode to toggle. Cheers. Hope you get it.

I don’ really know, sorry. Looping should definitely be possible, getting clips to launch might prove harder or impossible.

I am Lost at 3:00 what is going on? It was all simple and suddenly you pushed bunch of buttons for God knows why.
Just watch as i do that 3 more times and you will get it. Arm track, hit record, play, and hit the pad again to end the looping clip.
@@Marius_Tarceatu How do I hit record using Arturia Minilab 2? On which button? I watched the video over and over and I am still stuck. Is it because I use Ableon Lite? It seem I just cannot record what I play. The only way is to click the Record button with the mouse on the computer.

@scampifrity You must first assign a button on the arturia minilab with a pad, using the midi function. The top right corner of Ableton Live.

I need help. I'm trying to make live loops and I have a launchpad and 2 keyboards. All of them are connected to a send which is then connected to a general bus. I have one empty track dedicated to loops, but as soon as I record something with one of those three, the launchpad and the keyboards stops making sounds(even if there is a signal). What could it be?
