hi, I think I paid around £65 for 2 day EMS shipping with a coupon, there are cheaper options that take more days and the smaller/lighter your items are the cheaper it will be - but if u have never bought from buyee before every month or so they do a free international shipping coupon for first time buyers on mercari!! so if I were u I wld look out for that :)
My package was over 2000 grams (I bought a plushy, two skirts, two shirts, and two light up desk mirrors.) And it was about 50 dollars for ems fedex shipping. KEEP IN MIND that i bought mirrors that are way heavier than clothes… so it really depends on what you’re ordering.
Sometimes either the item was out of stock or the seller has to delay the shipment of the item for whatever reason and buyee will contact you. If you don’t respond with it 2-3 days they’ll cancel the order so keep an eye for that

I did pay customs but i have no clue how the system works in the US, in the UK I believe it’s around 20-25% of the items worth and then an additional £8-12 for the handling fee! But I would research Japan to US custom fees to check how much it would be for you :)
When you’re paying for shipping usually this all comes with the fees you pay on there it’s typically not too bad. But I also may depend on which shipping type you select
