I know many people say that SATAM/Archie Robotnik is the most evil version, but it's truly Fleetway Robotnik, who takes "the most evil" throne. It's criminal that many Sonic fans don't know and haven't read this comic. Great video as always. :)
Satam Robotnik (like everything in that show) is overated, frankly. He's little more then a generic stock cartoon baddie. Fleetway was a much better executed version of the concept.
Considering he was created due to Kintobor being corrupted by evil Chaos Energy, it's not like Fleetway Robotnik can be blamed for being so evil. It's similar to how Aku can't be blamed for being evil; he was created that way
@RG 96 I think that the series would've been a lot more bleak, and maybe more mature in terms of showing the results/casualties of Eggman trying to conquer Sonic's world. Though you can't say Eggman's hasn't had his fair share of darker moments in the classic games, like the bad futures in Sonic CD; with the post apocalyptic wastelands destroying all the nature and potential wildlife.
Am I the only one who prefers the Robonik design from the original games and that one movie with Metal Sonic. Just a Red shirt, black pants with overhauls, and a yellow bow tie and shoulder pads.

It’s just what America wanted at the time, and the UK comics just went off that, and Archie at the time was just an offshoot of SatAM which is why it used to have the SatAM Robotnik design. At least Archie acknowledged the two versions of Robotnik are drastically different; they were literally different characters in the pre reboot world lol
As a person who has watched every Sonic cartoon and read both Archie and Fleetway, I agree wholeheartedly that Fleetway Dr. Robotnik is truly the darkest incarnation, even darker than Satam Dr. Robotnik. Even ironic using the goofiest design but turning it into an omnicidal maniac
If you exclude the comics then the darkest robotnik is from sonic 2 sms/game Gear (He forces Sonic to give him the 6 chaos emeralds or else he will KILL Tails)
It's a shame that most fans remember him as a goofy, hard to take seriously villain called eggman. I personally see him as a villain that can have funny moments, but is a big threat nonetheless. Thank god the sonic movie finally did robotnik right for once.

entirety of IDW metal virus saga robotnik. even literally becoming a different person and making memories of him feeling good by doing good things, he was still completely rotten to the core to the point of disregarding everything and going "screw it, I'll just leave the planet" instead of thinking of a backup plan for even a moment.
Leaving the planet was his back up plan. The metal virus was designed to have a limited lifespan. After a few years everything infected would turn to dust.
Excellent list! One that really sticks out for me that wasn't on this list is the time Robotnik was literally a second away from using the Emerald Hill folk to power his supercomputer- which would have permanently doomed them. And all out of spite to get revenge on Sonic for destroying the Death Egg.
Ah, so that's what happened there. Remember, I came into that arc when it was basically done. Why's Super in an asteroid? How did Sonic wind up fighting Sidewinder? When did Robotnik team up with Zachary? I missed so much before getting issue 100, having wrongly thought the comic had stopped because I couldn't get hold of it for ages.
I wish you would include his dark moment when he went into a suicidal depressing after his defeat, Grimer attempted to snap in out of it to return him back to his old self, And then he reveals that he didn't have an actual plan, He just wanted to see everything ends and even let everyone dies, That's where Robotnik crosses the line that broke the camel's back for Grimer to leave him, And unlike his alliance with the Drako empire Grimer leaves his master for real this time.
Grimer assumed Robotnik had a plan. Robotnik flat out told him that he couldn't control Chaos. He said it several times. This was no grand scheme. This was the end. Grimer didn't believe it until Chaos got all seven emeralds and Robotnik was still just standing around, watching. "There is no plan, Grimer. This is the end." It was when this failed that Robotnik went catatonically mad, drooling and babbling. Oddly enough, Robotnik hadn't been eating for days, but he was still a fat bastard. And he put on the Eggman outfit for this, even though he retained the AoStH appearance.
This is all negated when you remember that Robotnik isn't at fault for his behavior. It was the chaos energy and the rotten egg that turned Ovi Kintobor into Ivo Robotnik. Of course, he's evil. That's what the accident did. All other versions don't have that excuse. Particularly the Archie Comics version. He's just evil. No excuses. Abuses his nephew so badly that he calls him Snivley to the point it's the only name he responds to. His name is Colin Kintobor. He also beats him when he fails. Stabbed the Acorn kingdom in the back after they saved his life. But his worst act had to be the creation of Mecha Sally. Purely accidental as he originally intended to turn everyone on Mobius into robots, but found the new outcome even better. The love of his life was now Sonic's worst nightmare. Eggman even went so far as to "upgrade" Sally. Because the original parts were replaced with more military grade stuff, it was no longer possible for her to be turned back to normal. Eggman hurt Sonic in a way he would never recover from.
Yeah, Archie Eggman(i.e. the version that came after the original) really did start to get very StC-ish but he still held on to that kind of whackiness. He's probably my favourite version for that reason, even if Nostalgia might bring me back to the one I grew up with (StC).

I wouldn't ever compare Archie Eggmans coniving mental manipulation to STC Robotniks pure chaos, and even when Kintobor DID infact come back, Robotnik just fucking game back anyway, because he's EVIL, I would 100% seperate STC Robotnik from Dr. Ovi Kintobor in terms of character. They're just not the same, Robotnik is evil for being Evil, in evil ways that would be frowned upon by the most chaotic of entities. Eggman is that, but less chaotic. Which makes me love them both as characters.
Fleetway comics Robotnik was hands down the most terrifying version out of robotniks combined. Sure some are very silly and comical and I can't help but laugh in pain at them, but this one alone is strikingly dark.
Video game Robotnik: Acts like a bumbling fool who regularly gets dissed by his minions and Sonic and who seems to not even try to murder anyone. He also responds to Eggman. Comic Robotnik: *MURDERS EVERYONE* By the way, I hate how he goes by Eggman even to himself. I mean I thought he hated that nickname and yet he literally calls his city in Unleashed EggmanLand and seems to have forgotten his name is Robotnik.
I see it as him being driven to the point where "Robotnik" and "Eggman" are just different personalities. When he's serious, he's Robotnik, the person who hates his nickname and wants to win against Sonic. Eggman is the mad genius with the amazing plans yet his bumbling personality becomes his downfall, that and Sonic just being Sonic, or a god, whichever happens first.

Wow! I had never heard of the Fleetway sonic comics until today! Everything from the art to the storylines seem to have that Eurocomic edge that’s sets them apart from the Archie comics and the game! I need to track some down.
And people say that villains in Marvel and DC are genius, psychotic, power hungry, nihilistic and homicidal. Dr. Robonik in the comics was all of those villains put together with Doctorate degrees. Very scary indeed.

It's just my opinion and I did grow up with early Sonic stuff so he was always Robotnik to me as a child, I know that nowadays Eggman is just a goofy goober having Ice cream with Sonic and pals, that's why I kinda miss the villain he was, someone you could enjoy to hate and feel good when you stopped him in the games. now when he shows up I just roll my eyes.
This is what happens when you combine the goofy appearance of Adventures of Sonic version of Robotnik with the cruel and ruthless personality of SATM version and combined with the intelligence of Dr Eggman.

Oh, that easy. He tricks Robotnik into letting him have an ally. Robotnik restores Knuckles...who instantly strips Robotnik of his power using the grey emerald. Rosy the Rascal (Amy Rose) points it out to Robotnik later. He loses not because Sonic is better, but because Robotnik's own methods are self sabotaging. I think it was that statement that made him want to die and take the planet with him.

Because he's evil. This Robotnik was created from a kind, gentle scientist named Ovi Kintobor being exposed to waves of chaos energy while holding a rotten egg. He originally looked like his in game sprite, then decided he needed a new look, grew an egg shell over himself and hatched into his AoStH form. He literally is more of an Eggman than any other Robotnik.

Dr Eggman was amazing up till the adventure series. After adventure 2 they decided to make him into a coward then into a bumbling buffoon.
Eggman was surprisingly sort of dark in the sonic movie when he kept talking about how he’s going to dissect sonic and experiment on him.
Yup I like the movie version of him the most, it was perfect balance of funny and dark, with a good amount of craziness and sarcasticness , perfect.

He absorbed the master emerald, altered the entire universe on a scale so big, just to mentally destroy Sonic, of course, sonic lived by this, but what STC Eggman did makes Mecha Sally look like cannonfodder, he destroyed his best friend, he controlled and brainwashed his only other friends, he altered history, he polluted and pretty much colonized the entire world, just to prove that Sonic cannot break him, but he can break sonic. And even when Sonic DID infact break him, as seen in this video, he wanted that last "HURRAH!" he didn't even know what he was going to do after it, and hell. look at Chaos for another example.
Archie went off the games with Chaos, but STC, no. Robotnik just wanted to see the end of everything, he had 0 fucking plan. Which is what caused Grimer to finally leave his omnicidal master. I think STC Robotnik is more well written then Archie Eggman, one is a manipulator who somehow always lives, and gets away with it. but Robotnik, he feels it, he feels it in a way not of insanity, but pure chaos. Not saying Archie Eggman going insane wasn't epic as hell, but STC Robotnik just going BALLS TO THE WALL, FULL POWER, BOMB, DESTROY, POLLUTE, KILL CHILDREN, SLAUGHTER INNOCENT, was fucking amazing.
I wouldn't ever compare Archie Eggmans coniving mental manipulation to STC Robotniks pure chaos, and even when Kintobor DID infact come back, Robotnik just fucking game back anyway, because he's EVIL, I would 100% seperate STC Robotnik from Dr. Ovi Kintobor in terms of character. They're just not the same, Robotnik is evil for being Evil, in evil ways that would be frowned upon by the most chaotic of entities. Eggman is that, but less chaotic. Which makes me love them both as characters.
Plus, look at the damn death egg. He had full intention of vaporizing everyone regardless of any reason.
Fleetway comics Robotnik was hands down the most terrifying version out of robotniks combined. Sure some are very silly and comical and I can't help but laugh in pain at them, but this one alone is strikingly dark.

I see it as him being driven to the point where "Robotnik" and "Eggman" are just different personalities. When he's serious, he's Robotnik, the person who hates his nickname and wants to win against Sonic. Eggman is the mad genius with the amazing plans yet his bumbling personality becomes his downfall, that and Sonic just being Sonic, or a god, whichever happens first.

Dunno why, but I’ve always liked the SATAM, Archie and Fleetway designs of Robotnik more than the canon ones.
Between 90s and 2000s Robotnick was cold and merciless but then they just reworked him into being "Eggman" which was just goofy and annoying more then being a tyrant
This is why I prefer Eggman over Bowser cuz unlike Bowser Eggman has actually beat and killed Sonic and Tails multiple times before unlike Bowser

Don't know about the Sonic comics that much, so videos like this is great. And man, I knew Sonic SatAM Robotnik was evil but this 🤨. It makes the game version seem like child's play. If only they introduced this version in Sonic Forces.

Oh, that easy. He tricks Robotnik into letting him have an ally. Robotnik restores Knuckles...who instantly strips Robotnik of his power using the grey emerald. Rosy the Rascal (Amy Rose) points it out to Robotnik later. He loses not because Sonic is better, but because Robotnik's own methods are self sabotaging. I think it was that statement that made him want to die and take the planet with him.

Because he's evil. This Robotnik was created from a kind, gentle scientist named Ovi Kintobor being exposed to waves of chaos energy while holding a rotten egg. He originally looked like his in game sprite, then decided he needed a new look, grew an egg shell over himself and hatched into his AoStH form. He literally is more of an Eggman than any other Robotnik.

With all this wasted material, Sega could've made some great Sonic games with this Dr. Robotnik. He'll always be Dr. Robotnik to me. Eggman just sounds stupid and doesn't sound intimidating at all. It reminds me of Sonic 3 when he burned the whole forest, and there were no animals around, only Badniks.

It's not the done thing. If he had quit altogether, at the end of Mega Drive Game Sonic 2, we would have all been happier. Trust me, as the time goes by, Robotnik has to meet his own downfall.
