Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Obsession I have tried the second one before I watched this vid and when I put the tape in, the screen was going everywhere. But your third option looks promising thanks
Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Obsession I just checked behind my tv and there is only red white and yellow. Do you think I can still go along with it
William Hopper I hope so. I mean, my Y/V socket was green but it may as well have been yellow. I should stress that I don’t have any kind of expert knowledge on this topic and only know what’s worked for me. The good thing about this lead is, it’s a relatively cheap risk. 👀
Found a successful way of connecting VCR to the new 2023 LG TV. I used a Neoteck SCART to HDMI converter. [£16 from AMAZON] The connections are very simple. Make sure you use the correct SCART socket on the VCR unit. The LG recognized the input from the VCR immediately. My video tape collection can now be watched once again. The vision and sound are terrific, even better than when I used my old LG TV. Phew! What a relief. Cheers, and thanks for your suggestion and support.
So happy to have found this video. I’ve been looking to obtain a VCR player lately as I wanted to revisit the VHS of my youth, ah, the found memories! Anyway, I remembered, even after all these many years, that VCRs connect to the tv via a SCART cable. I was fortunate enough to pick up a VCR for free yesterday and so ordered the SCART-RCA cable(the third option) Anyway, the cable arrived today and it was with much excitement that it worked and now the world of VHS viewing has opened up its doors to me again! Oh, the nostalgia!! Thank you for making this video, it was a HUGE HELP!!!
Thank you very much . Using your 3rd method we were able to connect our old video onto our tv and watch our family’s old memories especially our babies. It gave us immense joy and happiness . You were very kind to share this method and no words can say thank you. May god bless you and stay safe.
Thank you so much for telling me the third step this has worked for our family and it’s so nice to see those who have died and to hear their voices again, honestly can’t thank you enough from the Deans family x
Hey there! I got a new LD non-smart TV that seems to hate both my VCRs. Tried to connect them through composite, those wires were tested on my DVD just before testing them on both VCRs and the TV wouldn't get any signal from any of my VCRs even through both my VCRs and this new TV have composite connections. Because the composite connection works just fine on my DVD player and both VCRs had the same answer, I figured out this TV might not hate these VCRs. I bought an SCART-HDMI converter which solved the problem and my VCR is finally playable on this new TV. I had smart TVs before since 2017 but I never had this problem with my VCR. For those who want to criticise me for keeping them, I have 50 or more old VHS tapes that I grew up with and for NO reason I would throw them away!
I was going to give up on my old VCR which I've had forever and get and a new one but I thought lemme try again one last time and I saw your video and method 3 so I bought the wire and this morning it worked so thank you so much you are a life saver I don't have to spend £30+ for a new VCR 😊😁👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you so much, you’ve helped an OAP in knowing what to purchase. You were very clear and precise in your explanation. Old videos here I come. Keep safe. 👏🌈🐸
Hi, I am waiting for a new scart lead and jack plugs lead which will arrive tomorrow your 3rd option, think it will be the only way that I will be able to make the connection to my smart TV from my old Panasonic VCR , model number NV-HD600B which has two scart sockets on the back and no jack plugs to speak of, the two that are there I think are only for phono with not a white, red or yellow colour anywhere to be seen. I've had this unit since new but haven't used it for years, still turns on and works though so now hopefully I will be able to view all my old and not so old VHS tapes again. Thank you so much for this video, most other video's show only 3 coloured jack plug to jack plug connections which is totally useless in my case.
UPDATE TO THE ABOVE. The scart and AV lead arrived as stated above. When all was attached it worked like a dream, I didn't have to mess about changing anything on my LG 42" TV that I have on the living room wall. The scart/AV lead I bought is 5M long to get it from the VCR to the TV behind the fire surround and it only cost me £3.99 on eBay brand new. One thing I was very surprised about was the picture format on screen as I was expecting a square picture, however, all my VHS video's came on full screen without any distortion to the quality whatsoever, therefore, both the picture and sound performed flawlessly from the start. After the first set up from selecting AV on the telly I don't even have to do that each time I want to play a VHS tape as the TV does this automatically when the VCR is switched on. All this now works like a dream and I'm so pleased that I found your video on TH-cam. Thank you.
I got my new HDMI TV only yesterday and was beginning to panic .... because no HDMI socket on my video but thanks to you I have learned what i to buy to sort the problem out ... thank you mate
How about RF? Since it is a TV it will obviously have an RF input (it’s where you plug your aerial in) and most VCRs have an RF output. Just buy a double ended antenna wire. (Female on one end and male on the other) connect to the TV then hopefully if you retune your TV it should pick it up as a TV channel. From my experience even modern TVs I have still have an analogue tuner even though it is normally never used.
I have no av cable or scart on my tv was thinking of using a hdmi male to female 3 rca composite av connector and adding the av wire to that from the vcr ?
None of these would work in my case (no SCARP outlet on the VHS) but I did discover that Coaxial cable works, but blocks some antenna signals, so I have to re-scan the channels when I switch back to regular TV watching. RCA cabels don't work...or I haven't figured out how to get the HDTV to accept them.
I have 2 Panasonic vcrs , fully working. Can you guide me how can I connect both of them on new 2023 tv using coaxial cable ? Both work using scart but i want them to play with coaxial cable . I don’t see any pic and audio when use coaxial cable . And how can record vhs between two vcr ? Both vcr have 2 rca audio output . How can i do this ?
Here's a challenge - what if you want to hook up a ye olde VCR which doesn't have a SCART connection (or the 3x outputs from option 3) and only RF out and you want it to go, not to a smart TV, but to a projector? I need some kind of RF OUT to HDMI converter, but I can't find anything. There's also a VIDEO OUT connection which has one of those old 'turn to lock' fittings (if you know what I mean). Don't have a clue what they're even called. By the way, to give you an idea of age, it's a Ferguson Videostar.
An “RF to HDMI” (or “RF to VGA” if your projector has a VGA in) will not be a converter, it will be a so-called stand-alone analog TV tuner that was used to watch television on a PC monitor without involving the PC itself. Don’t know if you could buy one nowadays…
you can also buy a hmdl with scart, connect scart at the back of your old video, then put the hmdl into your tv, if you have got 2 hmdl in your new tv, and you have got a dvd recorder, or player, you can do the same thing with that as well, works on mine melody
Ive got skart to hdmi, cable but what do i do if sky box is already conected up, do the cables go to the sky box or to the tv. Anoap and female at that
Here's your fourth method... Use a co-axial cable from the UHF/VHF Output socket to the UHF/VHF Input socket on the TV. You then need to tune in the TV. This method does work for people but it is a pain having to retune the TV channels each time. Personally I use the HDMI output on my Toshiba DVR19DT VHS/DVD combo unit to the TV. I have also got the same SCART to HDMI converter that you have shown to connect a stand-alone VHS to newer TV in the bedroom it works perfectly.
Most even modern TVs still have the ability to pick up incoming UHF analogue signals. If anything this should work better now than Back In The Day when the frequency range would be cluttered with analogue TV signals. Now there would just be the VHS player and possibly the carrier for all the digital channels (although this might be in a different frequency band - I'm not sure.)
Modern TVs still have an aerial socket don't they? Can't you just connect the old fashioned way by pluggng the output aerial socket of the VHS into the TV's input ariel socket?
Is it possible to show me how to connect an old dvd player to a modern smart tv via a hdmi cable, there are no red, white and yellow connections on the tv. Thanks
I have a Panasonic DVD /VHS combination unit & the closest I have come to getting success is getting a Black & White picture, Having viewed your video I will try your preferred option 3 with the scart cable & I am now waiting on Amazon to deliver it
I have the aerial RF signal vcr so I do not have any AV leads. I do tuned up the signal on the vcr and do adjust the vertical holds. Noting works. Can anyone help me with the problem? I really need some solution’s.
Slight variation on this. I want to connect a Smart TV box like what they used to sell on the discount electric section at the supermarket (the bloke at Computer Exchange reckons an Android box is what I'm thinking of) to the input of a VHS recorder so I can record the smart box's output onto VHS. That way when Doctor Who comes back on in the autunm I can just copy from BBC iPlayer to VHS instead of having to either set the timer or manually switch on and off and the start and end of the live broadcast.
I do this easily enough with digital TV boxes using the SCART connection but would now like to connect up a smart box the same way to create a Smart VHS recorder.
Terrific video! Entertaining and informative. Method 3 is what works for my Laserdisc player, but not VCR. The tv doesn’t pick up the video signal for the VCR via the component inputs. Any idea why?
Hey there Ren - thanks! Glad you liked the video. Are you in the UK? I'm not technically minded, I'm afraid, but these methods seem to be UK specific in some way. :(
@@jarnopp I'm unfortunately US-based. But I appreciate the response! Bought myself a combo VCR/DVD deck over the weekend and am hoping that clears up my issues.
Yes, it should. Or, if the Sky box has an RF OUT, you can run a coax cable from this to the TV’s ANT IN. The TV will need to have analog tuner for this to work.
This does peeve me off having so many TVs no longer having a scart socket. Mine does that I have now but when that dies...then what? Does method 3 mean u can record as well as play off the new TVs?
Thanks Jason, I'm definitely going to try this. I bought an Australian tape of The Evil Dead and would love to watch it on my TV. Btw, nice to see you put the film on your HD TV. 😉
@@jarnopp Thank you that's fantastic well here we go today I brought a VCR from my local TV repair shop however there is one problem there's only one SCART on the VCR for the TV and I am not sure how I will go about connecting this via my DVD recorder it is a 9001 model.
Elgato produces a four lead dongle that plugs into a USB port on a laptop ( with software one installs) :- 3xRCA plus S-video. Red and White are used from the sound outlets on the VHS, with the video image taken from the S-video outlet (for best quality,) or yellow .
Hi Jason I watched the 3 methods of connecting the scart to to the the rear of the tv, however, none are suitable for me. My old video's scart has a cable attached at the end which i thought connected to the hdmi on the tv, after much head scratching i noticed what i thought was a hdmi connection is actually marked - " EXT ( RGB) which is definitely NOT a hdmi. Would any subscribers know what type of connection i have, and where i might pick one up? My tv is a Samsung UE32D6530WXXU.
I've tried it on two TVs. Same result: audio fine, MENU for VCR (set time etc) appears on screen. But no video. Surely therefore a setting issue. Anyone any ideas?
Is there a green one, though? Seems that socket can either be yellow or green? (Sorry for the delay, by the way, and I hope you've figured it out since!)
i connected my vcr upto my dvd recorder with hdd so i can either record via scart to dvd or hdd i use the hdd more as i can check it before putting it onto a dvd rewritable then put the dvd into the laptop then convert it
Hi Jason I opened it up and found there was a bar over the video flap that was bent I straightened that out and now I can get videos in but now it’s decided to start chewing up tapes!!(this is fast becoming a hobby!) any ideas
Hi there Julie! I wish I could help you with this enquiry, but I'm afraid I just don't know. The best I could recommend is to experiment with different cables in different holes. (Can anyone reading this add anything else?)
you can buy any cables on ebay, l have, they work fine, just makesure you get the right ones, for what you want, its pointless going to shops, when they dont have the cables you need, go on ebay
Nah, only have s-video out ,or antenna style video outs on the VCR. And separate L&R RCA for audio. Will try antenna to smart tv for video, then separate RCA for Audio.
@@jarnopp I shall do Jason should arrive today any recommendations on transferring vhs to laptops for digital copies? I shall check the channel out thanks hope you can subscribe to me and check a vid or 2 as not many do!!
I tried this and It didn't work I do have the connections and could hear the music but no picture. I then realised and assumed I need an ariel cable between the vcr and TV. I know.....its been 15-20 years since I used one 😂😂. I'm just hoping I don't need to connect an actual ariel to the vcr 🙃
Hi there Sharon! My best suggestion would be to experiment with trying the audio lead in a different socket on the back of your TV. It may be in the wrong hole. Hope this works!
WHAT IF YOUR VCR PREDATES Scarts and Composites??????? My VCR is A JVC HR D140ES from 1985 and only has RF IN and RF OUT and yet I managed to get it working on my 55" Sony Bravia
@@jarnopp Painstakingly slow a lot of trial and error. I put my VCR into test mode which output 2 white vertical bars. When this appeared on my Bravia I knew the VCR was communicating with the TV. A hour of fine tweaking with the tracking, cleaning the capstan audio and Video heads I was finally able to have Sound and Vision on a 35 year old VCR that only other outputs apart from RF out/In was the ancient BNC! Wonderful but well worth it!!!!!!!
I,m still trying to find out how to record cctv images through my modern TV onto my old vcr so I can have cheap security to find out who calls at the house. These new tvs are a nightmare will try this and attach my cctv see how get on.
A smart tv any bigger than 42 is going to produce pretty terrible results from a vhstape and I guess that's a reason for there being no AV connectors on these TVs. Smaller TVs its no such an issue actually. VHS tapes are perfect for the bedroom TV because when your in bed pure picture quality isn't really something your that bothered about anyway and its kind of a nostalgic experience in it's own right, from a simple time being a kid in bed on a dark late evening in your bedroom.

Thanks Jason, I'm definitely going to try this. I bought an Australian tape of The Evil Dead and would love to watch it on my TV. Btw, nice to see you put the film on your HD TV. 😉
Great - so glad you enjoyed and it was useful! :)
My tv says no signal ????
So does mine, I see this was a year ago so did you get it working
@@mr_billy_the_4th same problem ,I have sound but no picture
Hi I have set up an av to hdmi converter. I have sound but no picture. Doesn't make any difference with co axial cable plugged in either
I have mine set up with the converter, sound perfect but tv says no signal 😢
Would love an answer
I have tried both the cable of your last option and I have the small device. But I get nothing, maybe my VCR doesn’t work properly 😢
number 2 worked for me VCR VHS as old tapes worked from Brighton UK and worked on my 4k smart tv
Brilliant to hear that, Steven!
Hi
Thanks so much for uploading this to TH-cam I have a bit of a problem myself
No worries, very happy to help! :)
@@jarnopp Thank you that's fantastic well here we go today I brought a VCR from my local TV repair shop however there is one problem there's only one SCART on the VCR for the TV and I am not sure how I will go about connecting this via my DVD recorder it is a 9001 model.
I bought a quality scart hdmi converter for 60 euros, works perfect. Even has a signal amplifier
Is That A Possessed Shirt? That Looks Dope!!
It sure is! 🤟
Option 3, perfect, thank you so much
Ah great, John - so glad it helped!
Ok thanks if anyone can help please
Worked fine before smart tv
I'm thinking I need an aerial in the video to tv?
Great video! Do you know how to record the VHS tapes on to TV or how to obtain a recording of the VHS to have on laptop or computer etc?
Hey there Chelsey. Thanks! Unfortunately, it's been a while since I attempted anything like you describe...
Hi Cliff! Sorry nothing seemed to work. And yes: does anyone else reading this have an alternative idea for Cliff?
Sound advice - Method 3. Thanks.
Awesome. You're very welcome!
Phew, straightforward no messing info. Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful, Kim! This video certainly seems popular. :)
I've tried it on two TVs. Same result: audio fine, MENU for VCR (set time etc) appears on screen. But no video. Surely therefore a setting issue. Anyone any ideas?
Would this work witha sony analogue dvd recorder from freeview. Thanks
Hi there Hugh! I'm sorry to say I don't know at all. Can anyone else reading this comment help Hugh out?
@@jarnoppHi many thanks for your reply. What is strange is that my old vcr records from a sony tv with scart into both.
Thanks the RCA connection worked 👍👍
You're very welcome, Issy! Great news.
My TV doesnt have a yellow socket on the back bizzarely ,what shoudl I do?
Is there a green one, though? Seems that socket can either be yellow or green? (Sorry for the delay, by the way, and I hope you've figured it out since!)
i connected my vcr upto my dvd recorder with hdd so i can either record via scart to dvd or hdd i use the hdd more as i can check it before putting it onto a dvd rewritable then put the dvd into the laptop then convert it
Dear sir i got a sony android tv KD-49XG8396 i got a old jvc video can you help me to work it please i live in Surrey tadworth blessings uk
Hello Roshan! I'm afraid I'm no technical expert, so cannot offer assistance other than the ideas presented in this video. Sorry and good luck! :)
I do this but only sound no picture but my vhs is only vhs not combined??
Hi Jason, can these methods also be used to record off the tv onto a VHS as well ?.
Hello! Sadly I don't know, because I haven't tried to record onto VHS for a very long time. :(
Hi Jason I opened it up and found there was a bar over the video flap that was bent I straightened that out and now I can get videos in but now it’s decided to start chewing up tapes!!(this is fast becoming a hobby!) any ideas
simon plant Damn, sounds like you need a new VCR, my friend.
How do I record of the smart tv onto a vhs combo
Must admit, Simon, I've never tried, so can't help there. (Can anyone else help Simon on this?)
Hi I have 3 colours on the back of my TV green yellow, black and blue but my skark cable has red yellow and white can I use it and how?
Hi there Julie! I wish I could help you with this enquiry, but I'm afraid I just don't know. The best I could recommend is to experiment with different cables in different holes. (Can anyone reading this add anything else?)
where do I buy the cable used in Method 3? I have a scart to scart cable.
Hi Caroline! Try this, it may work: amzn.to/2HbL3sA
you can buy any cables on ebay, l have, they work fine, just makesure you get the right ones, for what you want, its pointless going to shops, when they dont have the cables you need, go on ebay
Nah, only have s-video out ,or antenna style video outs on the VCR. And separate L&R RCA for audio. Will try antenna to smart tv for video, then separate RCA for Audio.
Thank you I will try method 3!!
Good luck! Lemme know if it works. :) Judging by your username, by the way, you might enjoy my metal channel: bit.ly/PossessedByMetal
My dad's smart tv he got in 2018 has a scart plug and mine does too, so some tv's still have scart.
Ah, thanks, this is very good to know. And thank you for watching!
Ther don’t work for me as no scart out let on VCR. Brilliant you tube though.
Hi, I’m getting sound but no video after fitting this cable. Any ideas what to do next?
Oh and when I stop the video I get on my tv invalid format coming up.
Hi there Sharon! My best suggestion would be to experiment with trying the audio lead in a different socket on the back of your TV. It may be in the wrong hole. Hope this works!
Cheers worked a treat! Best method out there.
I got one of his Leeds it did not work the switch had fallen apart think damaged in post
Thanks I'll give it another a go, but I'm pretty sure I have tried method 3 several times and I can never get a picture on my Samsung smart tv.
I'll be rooting for you, Angela!
Thanks for clearing my scart problem. By the way , what time does your library open. 😂👍
9am-9pm Mondays to Fridays, later at weekends. :D And you're welcome. 👍
I am lucky to have an LCD TV with two SCART sockets!! I regularly watch doctor who on VHS
That is great! 😊👊 📼
Thanks for this. I don't own a TV. But I want to connect to 1 of my two monitors if I can. It looks like method 2 may be my only option.
You're very welcome - hope it works! :)
I went straight to method 3, the videos are showing black & white and seem a little sped up, I've got no idea what to do now :/
thanks
You're welcome! 😊👊
3rd option but my tv is not picking it up?
Hi Harry. Hmm, try playing around with the Source button and explore the AV and composite sources. I can't remember which one is right, so try both...
wow! tanx! very nice video!!!!
You're welcome!
Not sure what the UK equivalent is, but in the US you have RF f-type connectors.
Thank you Tom!
@@jarnopp no problem!
WHAT IF YOUR VCR PREDATES Scarts and Composites??????? My VCR is A JVC HR D140ES from 1985 and only has RF IN and RF OUT and yet I managed to get it working on my 55" Sony Bravia
Hey there Neil - that's excellent work on your part! How easy was this to achieve?
Hi Rob! Hope it works out for you, sir.
Well done, great advise always
Great stuff, Micky! Glad it was of use to you. :)
Wish someone would do one of these for Australia! Good lord why are connections so different ?
Thank you, this video was enormously helpful - love you too!!
Belated cheers! 🍻
Thanks a lot, but does it record from tv too, I’ve got an all in one HDD/VHS/DVD Recorder and I love it, so I’d like to record from telly
Hi Marilyn - you're welcome! I haven't tried to record from TV, must admit. Perhaps that could be the subject of a future video...
make sure you tune your video recorder, to your tv, once you done that should work, record
I use method 3 as well.Works perfectly
Cool!
@@jarnopp Still need the VCR for Silver Nemesis!
Thanks for this
A smart tv any bigger than 42 is going to produce pretty terrible results from a vhstape and I guess that's a reason for there being no AV connectors on these TVs.
My second smart TV , ( Samsung ) has less connections than my previous smart tv ( JVC ). Why cant they be like a swiss army knife style Smart TV's
I know, right? That would make sense. :)
@@jarnopp more dumb than Smart lol
