Guns were a huge crutch for me in my first two playthroughs back when S&S first released. They're absolutely BONKERS when paired with the daggers' kickflip attack, not to mention how badass it feels to finish off a boss with that mid-air shot.
Holy fuck, one of your Salt and Sanctuary videos was referenced in a Dark Souls speedrun video. So I decided to watch this, and this is amazing. I have a really hard time getting through the game just doing melee, but this makes me want to try ranged for once.

Yep! Glad I saw someone else utilizing this! When you buff your weapon, your gun gets it too! When I discovered this I was awed by the power I wielded. Ended up having one of my easiest playthroughs as a hunter. Also had the same covenant too. Was kinda trying a holy monster hunter vibe. Like a witch/vampire hunter Van Helsing-esque thing. Absolutely deleted bosses. Didn't know about that extra blunt and extra slashing thing though. Thanks for being so informative! Who knew guns were so overpowered? I did a half gun half greatsword playthrough , I used greatsword for the start of game because guns didn't deal that much damage at that time but later I started switching between the two I didn't know about that damage buff trick , If I knew about it , I might have used guns way more often

So I had a stupid idea. Cause guns are so strong, what if you played through as an immobile (literal) tank? You wear heavy armor you can't level in, have the crappiest roll, but you get to use guns. Hm. Maybe not challenging enough.

"Can you beat Salt and Sanctuary with only firearms?" Of course. I was running a Bloodborne build with shock bullets and I did half the bosses with only bullets. It's like easy mode
Salt and Sanctuary is an awes Souls-Like game mostly because of one major feature; Every build is viable. To prove this, I played one of the craziest builds I could think of. Heavy Armor, Phoenix Tail (Sword Whip) and Mosaic Culverin (Flintlock), plus Fire and Sky magic while still being able to normal roll. I was tanking hits like a boss, dodging with relative ease, and cleaving up the competition with whatever works best against them. I was wearing the Resplendant Armor from the House of Splendor creed, my favorite in the game.
Its a bit of a shame that there are only 5 guns in the game but each of them are diverse and contain its own specialty. They are a bit heavy-ish so one can even with light gear only get medium roll, I tried to get that with a character of mine. At least I got some extra dexterity which helped with what I was using. I do wish to try and see more of this style and set-up of game, with its art and all. and even if I technically beaten the game I still want to buy it properly! Also,you can do a quick combo with a weapon in your other hand! You just swipe three times and then shoot! the motion its almost identical to the dusk pirate. You twist your arm back with the knockback and everything,I think its simply due to the motion but, looks cool! Also, in the intro. To be able to shoot a potato like that actually takes a lot of precision! Yet for a gun to only peel something like that in the first shots may make it appear ot shoot only air pellets. Still, nice shot!
Not only can you, but one of my dumbest builds yet relies on it. He's a Paladin wielding the Lucent Musketoon, buffed with the holy paper. It's bonkers.

Wow, really? Does it still do damage? I know a lot of weird nonsense happens when roll-attacking, including being able to use weapons you don't have the skill to use. Cool stuff!
I'd say I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention how gun shots are capable of parrying parryable attacks, though to be fair, I don't think any bosses are parryable.
Would have been a nice way to play if you could dual wield, longer reload and restricted to pistols with even a longer attack time as you fire each pistol... More of a time it before you prime it style but...
Little confused about the basics here. You say you have to buy bullets, then smash cut to every boss. So… you can’t fight regular enemies with this build? Or you just need to do an inordinate amount of farming to do so?
I did it for a long time, Lucent Musketoon is insane along with Flint and Steel. Parry then Boom, gibs everywhere. Or Block then cock. I tried other playstyles but whip + guns is the way to go for me Guns also give you temporary levitation as the character shoots first before dropping. Enemies that keep attacking the ground? Bitch please the floor is lava

@@MrSuvvri Because it has S level scaling. If you pump dex early it's much stronger than any other whip. And has better reach than any sword. Since Pistols only scale with dex, it's an ideal combination.

I believe that's a combo. If you use a one-handed weapon and then shoot in the middle of its combo, you should do a backstep and the neat little gun twirl. ...I think.
Did they ever fix the glitch with the gunsword that ate your charms? I always wanted to use that weapon because I thought it was cool but was too scared to use it because I didn't want to lose my charms.

Pistols are one of the most powerful tipe weapons. Like daggers. Now put some Super Mega Toxic Poison buff from the Stone Roots Creed and enjoy my favorite "build". No need poison Pistol an Dagger, just raw damage with buff. PS: Super Mega Toxic Poison throwing daggers are also nice. I chose 3 buffs and 3 daggers for level creed reward, but 4/2 can be good. PS2: Poison and Super Mega Toxic Poison stacks a few times. Imagine a boss with 4xSuper Mega Toxic Poison. Nice material! To increase slash damage of the Flintlock Pistol, does it have to be an axe-type weapon or any weapon with slash damage?
There are specific weapons that have special modifiers, like Extra Slash or Extra Blunt. The axe I mention is just one of them.

True, definitely neglected to mention that. Bosses ARE parryable, but not riposte-able. So it doesn't do you much good.

You can use a gun to stun and riposte enemies a'la Bloodborne.

Yes, except the whip-blade is really strong. Iron and Steel covenant has it as a level 3 reward I think.

You probably have the wrong creed, or not enough devotion. Only Devara's Light blacksmiths sell guns at level 1 devotion.
Would the mossy charm reduce the reload speed on the flint and steel at all, or is that more specifically for swings?
I don't believe you can attach a charm to it, unfortunately. Much like the guns/ranged weapons, you need to put your ammunition in the charm slot.

In that case, just do a regular playthrough with a focus on obtaining the gunblade. That way you can use the sword half and have double the fun.
