i'm italian, the origin of venetian carnival are not so well known to tell the truth, probably it all started when the republic made a "festival" for lower social class, then the nobles tooke advantage from it wearing masks to not be recognized and have fun basically :) so carnival is mysterious and beautiful as much as its history :)
